In this video, I bring in my own controller for repair. It has a charging port that is loose and constantly disconnects.
We show you how to disassemble the device, and solder on a new port despite a few ripped traces which we believe was the root cause of our issue.

It isn't an easy repair yes, but you can always send in your controller for repair if you don't have the tools.

I FINALLY FOUND A FIX: just rip some very small pieces of paper and put it in the usb c port in the side facing the front of the controller. It prevents the cord from moving

Hot glue did the trick for me. Hot glued it in place permanent. Going on a couple of years now , and no issues, no disconnects.

Take controller apart, take needle nose pliers and put towards center of housing and other side of green board., Squeeze gently, tightened up connection and works good for the time being. Not at fault if you futz it up.

I've seen a lot of board repair stuff and have done it myself. Trace repair not yet. However I've seen it done. Some conformal coating would of been good to anchor the trace you made on the backside of it. Long as it was just enough to hold it down and not create a big bump so the connector wouldn't sit flat. Then the anchor pins should be flowed from the bottom side. Lingering so it flows through to the other side. I do that for HDMI ports with my iron/hot air station to help. Makes a very solid connection.

Worst plug I've ever encountered in my life. Never before have I dealt with a product that would come unplugged if I LOOKED at it too hard. I cannot set it down without is coming unplugged EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have rubber bands holding it in place, I am holding in place with my fingers, I am setting it down like I'm doing brain surgery and it will still come unplugged **EVERY TIME!** You cannot make a plug this bad by accident.

I just put a tiny dab of super glue on the outside of the port and that solved my problem lol

I just used 3M Molding Tape and wrapped it around the rim of the usb connector/plug just enough for it to fit into the usb port of the controller. You can use as much 3M tape as you like tho. Wrap it around, plug it in, and once it’s plugged, smush/mold the 3M tape into the little spaces of the usb port of the controller until there’s no more wiggling. And I’d def recommend using a combo of both 3M molding tape and super glue. Using the super glue at your own risk of course. Just make sure the glue doesnt leak into the usb port. If this tape fix doesn’t stick to the controller long enough, then I might have to super glue this sum’bitch so it stays put lol. I refuse to buy another expensive ass controller. Fix your own shit. Good luck guys UPDATE: It’s been more than 2 weeks. Still holding strong AF. Been playing MW3 and MK1 for hours with no issues. Rock on fellas!

What you are describing is a fairly good DIY solution but is unfortunately a temp fix. Replacing the damaged port is the real long term solution

Just an advice from a person who's doing it for living. You don't have to remove the excess of the solder ;). You can leave it there and use a dip technique. So, you use it later to mount the port, just add flux and preheat it with a hot air gun. It's my fav. technique just by the way. Especially with HDMI ports ;).

And for those who haven't done it, you can easily put too much solder which will end up inside. Watch out ;). Last thing is that T12 has a tip of 0.15mm, it's handy to have it for all sorts of microsoldering. I use this one, but mainly I use bent one, just prefer it to use.

I peel back the battery sticker. Just use a tint amount of hot air on very low and it softens the adhesive and you can peepl it back and remove screw then push it back down after repair leaving no hole

For people who lack the technical skills for this fix, there is a possible easy alternative. Trap one end of a rubber band in the battery compartment, wrap it once around the controller between the buttons, thread the usb connector thru the other end and plug it in. This will apply continuous force on the connector and may prevent it from disconnecting.

The one I have in the video I believe is called micro usb. If you go to eBay and type in micro usb port for xbox you should find what you need.

it's not the charging port itself but the little piece inside of it is lose therefore is there a way to glue it??

It's been a while since I did this repair but I think it's the charging port itself and not the piece indide that was loose. One of the traces got damaged internally so when I removed the port the trace completely came off and I think that was because it was already damaged. I could be wrong. I don't do these often enough to know for sure.

I think this is basically a design flaw by Microsoft. I thiñk they felt that by being able to use a new USB-C cable, it would give the controller an extended life. But what they don't understand is how much stress the player puts on the USB-C port while playing. If you are like me, I am yanking and swearing during difficult parts of a game such as boss fights. It didn't take very long before the cord stopped connecting to the port. A USB-C connection is too delicate for this type of use.

it's not a design flaw it's a quality issue. these things are made on the cheap in china for like for like 1 dollar. microsoft spends as little as possible to manufacture these hunks of trash and sell them to you for like 1000% markup. ALWAYS get the warrantee when you buy these things and REGISTER them. They will NOT last more than 6-10 months without something going wrong, no matter how good you take care of them.

We are soldering on a new pad on the board. So rebuilding the trace essentially. It's definitely a more advanced repair and is very difficult to do. Using a magnifier or microscope is almost required for these.

Why change it to a USB C? I don't think it would make a difference would it. The controller is still designed for the mini usb so my understanding is that it wouldn't be able to take advantage of the improvements USB C brings. Or am I wrong? I don't know.

@@NicksTVRepair Well, from my perspective, it would still work the same and the issue with most mini usbs that end up tilting and breaking, would be gone for good as well. The connection is much more stable and reliable.

If you just got that controller and are having issues, I DO NOT suggest you try and fix it. Get it replaced. It will be covered by warranty. If you have issuse with it on day 1 there are possible more problems with it than just that and it would be in your best intrest to get a whole new controller. It's a bummer and it will take a week or two to get the replacment, but trust me, in the long term this is the best option.

Hi so idk if ur reading this but if u r can u help me with mine so my wire cos I have a wired controller my wire won’t go in anymore it was fine like 10mins before it fell out bc I pulled it by accident and idk what to do I tried a different wire and that won’t work and if u can fix it can u try make it so I don’t have to take my controller apart
