I've been using my Xbox Series S daily ever since I picked it up. Corny as it is, I truly love this little system that brought me back to the console space. I have sweet spot for this xbox and honestly, I love it!

hey man I’m planning to buy a console and i have never had one before so its my first time buying one so should i go for the ps4 pro or ps4 slim or xbox s cause these are the ones that are in my budget and I’m a teenager so l cant really afford the x or the ps5 . I didn’t play my PS4 for the entire of 2022 because of the fan noise and I’m getting a series S next week. That fan noise is way more off putting to me than I’d have thought and it’s only gotten worse. Even after cleaning and changing thermal paste it’s way less yet still loud.

Completely agree. I was waiting for borderlands to come on sale on Xbox but dusted off the ps4 to play my Sony copy. That thing has asthma or something and you'd have to play games quite loud to mask it (or a headset helps). I can only ever hear my Xbox when I'm right next to it, if the room is quiet enough. I know it's, in part, the age but I don't think the ps4 was ever quiet like this is.

As a Sony PlayStation fan and probably not the only one. You can thank the Xbox Series S for introducing us to the whole Xbox Microsoft brand. I love this little console I’m really enjoying it.

I crossed over to Microsoft via the series s as well. I miss the controller from PlayStation but I'm liking the ecosystem better with Microsoft. And with the Microsoft rewards I've been getting many free games to fill my catalogue with.

@@cnkilts well, I go back and forth on my comfort with it. It's been just over about 14 months. I will say- 8bitdo has a wired controller with the PlayStation form factor, including the symmetrical sticks. Cheaper than a replacement Xbox controller. I've had that for a few weeks and so far I like it. It's quieter and has programmable paddle buttons that are easy to change quickly with one's phone. The Xbox controller is usable (I added a rechargable battery for cheap) but if you're a competitive player (I'm not) the transition might be pretty painful for awhile. If your setup can cope with a wired controller I think the 8bitdo is a perfect way to make the switch, just make sure you're getting the Xbox compatible one.

I bought mine as an Xmas gift to myself last year. Even after 12 months, I'm still always impressed by this little console! 👏 Are the Series X and PS5 better, yes. But the Series S knows that and holds its own! I still plan on purchasing a PS5, but even then, I won't abandon the Series S. It'll just be my bedroom console with the PS5 downstairs in my entertainment system. One more thing to add, I also now use the Series S to stream Netflix and related apps. The quality is insane for 4k with HDR. Overall, I agree with worrying you said and it's a shame so many "elitist" dump on this console, calling it last gen or a potato. It's absolutely not in anyway. Its a sold next gen console for a killer price! I love it

I don't know man. I have had a PS5 and got the S recently thinking it would be a fun side console....turns out it just sits under my tv and collects dust. I just feel like once you get all those good PlayStation games there's really nothing on Xbox that even comes close. Like Forza is good on Xbox and then there are essentially no good exclusives after that. Gears and Halo are so damn ancient I can't believe anybody would still spend time on those. I'm not saying the S is a bad console. It's quite nice. But once you get a PS5 I would imagine you'll abandon your S a bit.

@Mike Stanek I do actually agree with you in some parts. And thank you for a reasonable reply and being a decent human being! I am definitely planning on grabbing a PS5 in January, and I'm pretty certain I'll use my Series S less. Probably more for netflix etc in the bedroom. There aren't that many great games on xbox I'll admit, but it is nice to pop onto Game Pass and see what I can play. This is actually the first xbox I've ever owned, always been a PS fan since PS1. Uncharted is definitely my all time favourite PS series. So I'm looking forward to playing Uncharted 4's PS5 version!

Sure there is Horizon (which i am meh towards) and a few others, but I am waiting to get full next gen until the libraries for both have expanded. Until then the Series S is a little beast that combined with gamepass is a great deal.

@@marinewillis1202 PS5 only games sure. But PlayStation has loads of great exclusives that are way better than anything Xbox offers and Xbox even admitted to that. I wish Xbox would put some work into some new games. Seems like they are banking on Starfield which to me doesn't look amazing. I hope Xbox will create some new exciting titles but I'm not holding my breath.

The series s can at least stay useful as a place to pick up cheap, older games that ps5 doesn't support. A good place to play gems you missed last gen while waiting for a compelling release from Sony. There's also the emulation potential if you're savvy to that stuff. I've even seen a wall mounting bracket for them so it could be mounted next to a wall-mounted TV and used in one's bedroom as a secondary place to play or watch. At the very least, if I was going to bring a console on vacation or to someone's house- I would much rather it be the series s over one of the big boys.

Spot on! I also game on PC and for 1440p gaming, this series S seems such an underrated gem. If you also get the DTS headphone X app, you’ll hear a night and day difference with directional queues which is almost like cheating knowing where enemy footsteps are coming from (game sound design may vary, but in a game like Apex Legends it’s a huge advantage. I use the sennheiser PC38x but any headphone / earbud would work with varying soundstage.

4:42 absolutely agree with everything you said, and this is an excellent video. During the pandemic, I revive my Xbox 360 and it kept me going, but it was held together with a duck tape and an external drive . It finally died so I went out and bought an Xbox one S slightly newer model with Blu-ray player filter .

Your review was well done! I have a series X and I 100% agree with everything you said, I am also glad your playback speed is improving. Most KZfaqrs talk way too slow and I have to click x1.5, but yours was perfect speed to relay every information. Thanks for the hard effort, every little clip to align with your overlay. It's a great little console that looks and plays well. I have a Series S in the spare room. It's even better if you can get it on sale! I've been a PC gamer for many years but am thinking of migrating back to the consoles for gaming because of the simplicity and cost versus a gaming PC these days. More and more games are supporting keyboard and mouse too now. You can run games off of an external USB hard drive as long as they are not specifically for Series X/S or otherwise not optimized for the current gen consoles. I carried over the 2TB USB mechanical hard drive from my Xbox One to my Series X in the living room and many games run just fine off of it (if you don't mind the slower load times LOL).

Quick resume is really awesome!! Overall the series s is a great deal and feels a little like a ps2. So many backwards compatible. Recently played SSX 3 and it’s what I want for a backwards game. It looks and played like I remember. Just get one if you don’t care about the best graphics but it looks awesome on 1080p TVs nothing like 4K but really it looks REALLY good. ✊

I play on all the major consoles and played PC prior. I have the S in my office and the console is stellar. Hooked up to a 32" VRR 1440p 144hz monitor it's perfect. If I go switch between systems the differences are not massive and you wouldn't know or care if you're not comparing them back to back. Most devs give people an option for higher frames or higher resolution which suits everyone's needs.

Just want to note that developers actually love the Series S. The only ones that really have complained were companies that only have like one person working on indie games because they are required to optimize to the Series S if they want it on the Series X. It just adds more work to Solo or small dev groups.

Finally someone knows this! I see videos all taking that ONE dev have a complaint. And the XSS isn’t going anywhere, it’s far more readily available, more people have it, it’s popular and all games can be optimized for it. I working in the gaming field, and I can say that devs will work on this no matter what. Devs have had to deal with crappy systems before, this isn’t the first time. Ps3 was terrible to work with, porting games to the Switch is a pain and often times don’t work well. So even if the XSS maybe be a pain, it’s no where near as bad as those other two consoles that have had/have long lives.

@@steelerfan310 exactly man. People wouldn’t still be developing games for Xbox one,ps4 or the switch if performance was the issue. Which the series S is by far better performing wise with a way more advanced chip design and storage.

It's only a minority of developers who complained strongly about the Xbox Series S hardware. Yet many of these are still releasing PC video games for hardware. That has lower PC minimum requirements than the hardware specifications, of the Xbox Series S.

I’ve loved mine! Got it at the start of this gen, and although I’ve been bought a PS5 I haven’t set it up for like 3 months since getting it. The Series S just takes up the perfect amount of space in my entertainment set up and Gamepass is so good. Maybe I’ll try the PS5 at some point

There were tons of demo discs around 20 years ago. Xbox magazine would send them out and you can still find them in retro game stores/flea markets today. Many others games included demos as well, i.e. RE and Dino crisis demos on PSX.

I purchased a 1TB Samsung External SSD on sale for $89. Transferring X/S games back and forth is very fast. It solved my storage issues. I'm very very happy with my XSS.

Have it since launch and like it very much. It's fast and more than enough for my 1440p monitor. Xbox nailed it for me with this console. Big advantage for Xbox is that it's almost always available in stores. It's easier to make than the Series X or PS5 and still get's people into the Xbox ecosystem.

Im mainly a switch user. Its mobility/simplicity just does it for me. Work long crazy hours and my house is full of kids. I use shadow pc via the cloudand actually really like that for myself and how it works on my phone and tablet so that's how I'm able to play titles the switch can't handle. If I didn't know about this or service didn't work well for me I would have an Xbox s and take it everywhere. The add on screen that you can purchase for is so nice if being on the go is your life. Awesome product. If I see ppl stressing about getting a ps5 I'm like if you just want to play next gen and don't have a side get the s.

Your story is quite relatable. I too have been a lifelong PC gamer, since my first XT clone way back in 1987 (yes I'm old haha) at 15. I feel like I'm being priced out of PC gaming, especially with GPU prices. Even a decent mid range GPU is over $1000 AUD for me. For value alone I'm switching to console gaming, and have been loving my PS5, especially not needing to worry about if my hardware will run the latest games or fiddling with settings. Like yourself I only game at 1440p, I have a cheap TV, with only HDMI 2.0 it's not going to game at 4K, no matter which system I use. As such I feel the Xbox Series S is the way to go, as my secondary console, for all the reasons you mention. It's only $399 AUD and I'll still be able to play Starfield, MSFS, new Fable, Avowed, etc, and not sweat forking out for a new GPU etc.

I have a Series S and it still amazes me how much value is in it. I do plan getting a Series X in the future though, but that's only because I spend my workdays in a different city and it would be nice to have an extra console. If I had to complain about something related to the Series S, I'd say that some of the xbox store prices are not that nice sometimes. I'd maybe say the storage but that's not really a problem after I bought an external HD.

@@Tlag78 Id say probably go with the Xbox Series S just because you'll still have access to the new releases versus the ps4 which is starting to see less and less games released for it this year. Also if you're a Verizon customer, theyre currently doing a deal where you can claim a coupon that takes 50% off an Xbox Series S as well

An alternative and cheaper way to solve the storage issue is to plug in an external hard drive. It allows you to play Xbox One, Xbox 360, & OG Xbox games through the Hard drive and you can store Xbox Series (or Optimized) Games in your hard drive but you can’t play through your HDD as it does require an SSD to play those games.

It’s more logical to just keep a large external ssd and transfer series / series optimized games to and from the internal storage. Better alternative to buying the highly expensive seagate expansion drives

Slight correction.. you can play any Xbox One or previous gen games off an external HDD. Even games that are just Gen 9 Aware you can. Just not current gen games. I recently got a 1440p monitor for my PC to replace a 1080 and I love it..tried my Series S on it and was blown away at what an upgrade it is for this little console. Def the key to really making it look better.

I absolutely love the video and how you put it, I am the same way, I have the RIG in my office rocking a 3070 w/ 1440P, the Series X on the Nano90 75", and my Series S well I move it everywhere, probably my most played device. If I had to choose one, well probably be my S or X.

I managed to get a series x and a ps5 around the same time and I still use the series x a lot more it has a wider selection of frankly better games and while there are some games I prefer on ps5 because of the responses on the controller, I still chose to play graphic intensive stuff like Elden ring on the series X because I think it gives a smoother experience overall.

Great video, I've sorta been on the fence on which console I should get between the X/S and I think I'm going to go ahead and get the Series S. I've been hesitant due to the lack of storage and the rumors of developers complaining about developing games for it.

Don't get the S over the X. If you are only choosing one console definitely get the X. That little bit of extra $ up front is peanuts when it comes down to it. Being able to buy cheap physical games is a treasure. I have a PS5 as my main console and a series S as a secondary...the S hardly gets played. PS5 or series X will play any game better than the S plus the additional storage and what not. The S isn't really worth it unless you plan to play very little. I downloaded flight simulator and Forza Horizon 5 to my S and after updates the SSD was almost full. It's not a bad console but it has a lot of shortcomings and when all is said and done you'd probably be happier to spend the extra $200 on the X knowing you probably won't need to buy storage expansions or over-priced digital games.

It’s the holidays and the series s is on sale right now, I have one and I say it’s worth after upgrading from the Xbox one x, it’s a big difference only downside is the storage but I already had an old hard drive so it worked out

i enjoyed my xbox one forza motorsports since i bought it but if new system then defenetly ill get the huge x box series x again but i only play 1 game at a time Racing is ma thing lol good video mannnnnnn

The Series S for me returns console gaming to its rawest form. It’s small, it’s potent as hell for it form factor, and it’s relatively inexpensive. It’s a console that unapologetically about the gaming experience for anyone looking to pick up a controller. Game Pass is a digital game changer. I do wish the SoC setup would have allowed for 12GB/24CU’s instead of 10GB and 20CUs when it comes to future proofing little brother, but it’s hard to complain about this little guy.

i actually owned a Series X but was a sony fanboy and switched back to PS5 when i finally got my hands on one , ever since i sold my series X i have regretted that decision , i miss the whole gamepass thing and also certain features xbox has that sony refuses to do , or do right .... like the FPS boost for older games for example , the clunky UI for doing certain things , backwards compatiblity (not streaming like those PS3 games) , i think i'm just gonna keep the PS5 but buy myself a Series S and put it on a 1080p display

Have 2 of these. Best gaming machines I've owned period. Not so much in a visuals stunning way, but solid consistent performance and solid library to offer a gamer. It just gets the job done without getting hung up on pixel counting. It will be my last gaming console but that's ok. It does more than I need and want. One in the living room and one in our bedroom. Just always ready to go. And owning 6 controllers that just work. Series S is the best bang for your buck for gaming for most gamers, who tend to be casual gamers. It's more than good enough.

Honestly I love my series s I only play maybe 2 or 3 games as it is but if I ever decided I want something else I can just download it from gamepass its honestly great for me

I can get one for £20.99 a month for 2 years with 2 years of Ultimate Game Pass. For me, this is an affordable purchase and what I need, as I want to play through the Halo Games. I own a PS5 and have been with Sony since PS1 but the Series S suits my needs. Can't wait to play Halo as a Destiny fan the music and atmosphere etc are what excite me the most.

What do u think about the Digital Only Thing? I mean I have also a Series S, but I just wanna know ur oppionion on that. We don't know if the same Games are availible in the Future. MS is doing now a Great Job with the Backwards Compatibility Program (which was my Reason to buy a Xbox instead of getting a Sony Console - ok sony did much wrong this Gen too but that is another Story), but you can't be sure :/

It comes down to preference and practicality. When a new game comes out that you want, do you want to have to trudge around to a bunch of brick and mortar stores to find a copy, or would you rather hop on your console, got to the Xbox store, buy it, go make a sandwich, eat it, do the dishes, then go back to your Xbox series s and start playing? I had the Xbox One S All Digital (the Xbox One SAD), and I enjoyed it. It was convenient, and had a huge library of games at your fingertips. When the new series consoles came out, I wanted a Series S, but the store I went to only had Series X’s in stock, so that’s what I ended up with, but my oldest has a series S, and he’s got no complaints about it.

It's great for people who are broke at the moment but don't want to miss out on current gen games. The storage capacity sucks but games download so fast if you are not playing a game. So if you just watch a 20 min show while you wait even big games will be done by then. Also I used to think my internet was crappy cause my xbox one s would always disconnect from the internet but since I got the series s it has only ever disconnected once and that was when the internet was actually down for a few minutes. I'm definitely going to upgrade when I get more money but this is good for now. I wanted to start playing playstation for exclusives but as I said I broke right now and I've always been an xbox player so my whole library is on xbox so I kind of had to stick with xbox. It's a shame xbox owns the best developers but still can't pump out exclusives I hope one day they can get back to the 360 glory days. But right now nobody plays xbox.

Wh.. Where do you buy a bag of milk? Edit: all jokes aside tho, you made some amazing points. I didn't even know you could stream to twitch on the thing. As dedicated PC gamer I absolutely cannot deny the value this thing provides. Great video and keep up the good work (oh and btw, congrats on becoming a new dad)
