So the console description said that it was to play on 1440p but you guys complain because it doesn't run well on 4K? Are you serious?

or this console were meant for developing 3rd world country gamers (like me) who don't really care about 4k nor 120fps. we just wanna taste next gen games but don't have fortune to spend.

The screen resolution that most people thinking of buying this will have is 1080p, why did they not mention anything about the performance on 1080p.

I feel there is a disconnect between the reviewer and the targeted audience. So many people do not have a 4k or even 1440P display, and are on a very tight budget. If I were young I would happily remove and install games for that low price!

That’s the idea of this console, old and new generation games at 1080p60 without hitches, and without spending 400+ on 4K TVs. Gonna be buying one as soon as I can. Not interested yet in 4K gaming, just steady 60 framed and full hd.

Series S is definitely the "Well, I have a PS5, but I want a new Gamepass Box." system. Once they're available with Xbox All Access I'll probably grab one.

It's just unreal how much power they were able to compress in such a tiny console. Makes the infamous "power brick" such an embarassing thing of the past.

The Series S is essentially a gamepass machine, and thats not a bad thing necessarily. Pick a game on gamepass, download it, beat it, delete it and move on to the next. At $300 combined with a gamepass subscription its probably the best "value" in gaming. Maybe mix in 1 or 2 third party games at a time that you've bought outright, or that one multiplayer game you devote a lot of hours to and you should be fine with this.

Looking into upgrading to next gen & I've been thinking about getting a series S. I know it's a year later but does anyone else feel like this review completely missed the point? It's a 270$ system. If you want to buy a similar gaming PC, you have to spend at least 700$. For 270$, the Series S might be the best deal you could make in the next-gen gaming space. You get a controller with it (which normally costs 70$ if you buy it on it's own) and you can use the Series S with a keyboard and Word to be productive as well. It's a great choice for people who don't need the ultra best.

It's not limited to 1440p it can upscale to 4k depending on the game

Why would you test a 1440p-targeting machine in a 4k screen?

You totally missed that you do get practically, the same benefits from using a regular external SSD for back compat games. So, there is a cheaper option available for back compat storage while still retaining the huge performance boost.

I love the Series S. It’s great to own especially if you have a hard drive to store some extra data on. I’m really excited to receive the PlayStation 5 in the mail to compare the two.

FYI The fast storage is only part of the fast load times. The much improved CPU is also critical, I would bet you would find very fast load times even with slow drives compared to the last gen consoles.

I appreciate this console’s inclusion a lot. The storage is a pretty dumb choice by MS though. 500gb already felt frustratingly small thanks to most devs trying to join the “100 club” for some effing reason. 1tb should easily be the standard, even if has to be split between ssd and hdd

I got the Xbox Series S on pre order date and never regret purchasing it. This console is perfect for me since I only download all my games on digital and I dont really play that much on Xbox. I did order a PS5 so Im happy with the Series S.

Odd to keep featuring RDR2, which would be the One S version on Series S, and not even 1080p for that reason.

The XBS-S is meant for families on a tight budget to game via Game Pass. The biggest problem is the limited storage. Even if they buy an external SSD, or HDD, that's at least a $120 additional investment (just like the XBSX with the NvME storage card). So, if they can afford it, it just makes more economic sense to buy the more powerful XBSX that also comes with more storage to begin with... The key phrase being, if they can afford it. Still, if it will only see casual use (a few big AAA titles a year), it might be worth it for Game Pass, alone.

The S is absolutely great at what it's trying to do. Give anybody with $300 access to next gen gaming at 1080p or 1440p. OR you can spend $500 + probably another $500 for a cheap 4K TV just to actually start gaming. For PC it's probably around $2-3k to get into 4K gaming. For $300 it's a great deal if you have a 1080p or 1440p. These reviewers are using the latest 4K TVs whith around 1% of the planet actually use LOL.

5:02 i was very worried about the small storage space from XSS but i see the Smart Delivery system is doing a very great job reducing GEARS 5 from 71.9 GB to 55.1 GB, that's huge, allowing to install 8 games which is enough for me, i'm going with XSS 100%

It's tempting. It has some shortcomings but it is handy and I'm very tempted to buy this just to have on the side. Not a bad price and I'd love to run fh5 and MW on it and maybe keep new vegas on a thumb drive.

I've been suffering on Sea of Thieves for the XBOX One S. I finally got my hands on a Series S, and it changed everything. Silky smooth and no stutter or flashing screens.

At this point, it doesn't even matter whether you want an X. You can't find one. Many have just given up (like me) and gone with an S. Just so we can be in this generation. It is almost Oct 2021. If you can't find an X now, forget it until Q1 of 2022.

I have to beg a differ on Ryan’s idea of not recommending to buy the expansion card with the Series S, yes it’s costly and we may have to wait another year before we can see price drop or third party expansion card, however the series S is an all DIGITAl and the expansion card is the only velocity architect that can run smooth for next gen gaming. If you buy Series S for a monitor that has all the specs the console need, it’s worth it in my opinion. Another thing to point out that most AAA game sizes are going to be smaller than the series X so you’ll definitely take advantage of the expansion card at ease.

I can imagine this one being sold for 199-250 in time, which will make it great complement for Game Pass. 299 is still a bit tough sell considering limitations, IMO.

Is there a way that you can move games around from an external HD to the internal SSD? For example, I had GTA5 on the HD but I wanted to load it fast, can I just go into a menu, switch it onto the SSD and load in quick or is there a process?

If you wanted the s for the size and as portable as a home console can be factor then the card isn't a bad buy and you'd end up with more space than a series x for the same price overall

The Series S (and X) will have faster load times even loading (xb one / xbox) games from external SSD. Because of stronger CPUs which handle the decompression much better and faster.

Going to have this for sure in the near future. I have a 1440p monitor and if Sony is not making it as native resolution for PS5 in the near future, I might go directly to Series X instead of S.

I think the Series S works well as a one game console and would probably better serve as an entertainment hub for Netflix, etc. The storage just doesn’t justify it this gen, hell even 1tb isn’t enough tbh, so this really isn’t going to be everyone’s favorite but I still see it selling well because of the price.
