What You'll Need:
- Damaged, scratched, or unreadable disc.
- White Stick Deodorant
- Toothpaste (without beads or other abrasives)
What You'll Need to Do:
- Wet Disc
- Apply Toothpaste from inside out using finger
- Allow to dry on disc for 8-10 minutes
- Rinse and dry disc
- Apply White Stick deodorant from inside out using finger
- Allow to dry on disc for 8-10 minutes
- Rinse and dry disc
I've found a majority of the time the unreadable or unrecognized disc error on an Xbox 360 is due to a scratch or abrasion on a disc that is too deep for the laser to read. This will help fill in the scratches on the disc and allow the laser to continuously read and process the disc. This is the best how-to for fixing a damaged, scratched, or otherwise unreadable or unrecognized disc for your Xbox, Playstation, PC, Wii, Gamecube, or other disc-enabled gaming console.

For deeper scratches try using a very high grit >2000 sand paper working from center to edge, then polish with car wax compound and clean with windex after all steps are done. might have to do this three times to fix really bad ones but it avoids needing a new disc. This works because newer discs have several layers of plastic before any data layer. The data layer is actually on the label side of the disc not the shiny side. There are videos on youtube for this process do a search and you will be amazed. this process iin the video is great for minor stuff but get out the sand paper if you got deeper ones.

I used sand paper method. I thoroughly rubbed the sand paper and new marks appeared. My game used to start and give an error but now it can’t even be read. I guess I should have sanded more lightly.

Ok I never comment on things but this morning I was freaking out cause I scratch my favorite game. Instead of crying my eyes out will a big baby I googled how to fix it. I came across your video and was like I have nothing to lose. It was an old video so I wasn’t expecting to much. When I put my game in my Xbox, (after I did the process of course) I was shock to see it come back to life. Instead of crying tears of sadness I was crying tears of joy. Thank you so much

Undertale Trash you can usually feel the depth in a deep scratch. surface scratches can't be felt.

I used wood polish, it’s like a leather cleaner but for wood. Waited over night and didn’t rinse it in the morning I just wiped it off with a microfiber. After that I put a light coat of clear coat on it. Works like new

I bought paper mario for GameCube recently preowned & the disc is pretty scratched up. Seems to work just fine though. But the scratches are really bugging me. Would you recommend doing the toothpaste and deodorant method?

It worked man thanks a lot. to those who don't believe trust me it does. I recommend when you do it. Leave toothpaste on 30 mins or longer and then do the deodorant as well for 30 mins or longer.

matthew hull some people have used just deodorant and worked. But if u use that first I would say wash first to clean.. Put toothpaste on for 15 minutes or more and then wash and use deodorant again for same amount of time. I did that and worked

A couple of questions. One, does this method work on PS2 discs? I have a copy of NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup that does load to a degree, but doesn't load to the start button menu (probably a freeze). I checked now and it does have a lot of scratches on it, mainly not deep ones. And second, can I use cool mint gel Crest toothpaste and one of those old style Old Spice deodorant rolls? If these questions are answered I'd be very happy. Thanks!

So I tried to clean a Disc with toothpaste BUT I inadvertently went in circular motion instead of from inside to out, I have a question, Can I try again using the same method you used only instead of using a circular motion I plan on using the inside to out method? I know I CAN try again I'm asking because If I do try again do you think it will make a difference? Thanks and great video very helpful

Hi, so this is my question is the game freezes, does it mean it will freezes and the music is still on? This guy said that it freezes when your hood is not properly close, I tried that but is useless, I tried doing a method of tooth paste and waited very long and wash it and put it back in. My game, "The Simpson Game" had a cut scene at the auntie episode (sorry for details) and were the two guys in the tree fall cut scene, I didn't get it all the sudden the screen is frozen only sound of the game. I really hope you reply...

Alright so I did it all over again and it still didn't work but I did realize that the cover of my disc is scratch and when I put it up towards a light, I can see thru disc where scratches or spots are at. Is it the reason why it not reading my disc because of those spots or scratches on the cover ??

Edris A Probably in a Gaming store/Family Video for around $2, if it doesn't work, then it's past the point of repair so you need a new disc, JUST WATCH THE VIDEO, IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!!!

Can someone please explain what i am doing wrong? I try the deodorant trick with a Smurfs dvd that has a bunch of light scratches a few times, let it dry for around 10 minutes or so, and then clean it off like Xbox DIY done in his tutorial, i still see a million scratches, i try it again but then fall asleep forgetting about it and the deodorant on the Smurfs dvd has dried for hours at this point, clean it off like Mr. Xbox DIY did in his tutorial and guess what? there is still a million scratches! can someone please help me?

Depends. It's definitely not permanent but easy to re-apply if need be.
