I kind of like having a few physical buttons still. I feel like when consoles were more “mechanical”, it was easier for me to form an emotional attachment. Consoles are more powerful than ever before, but still find a way to feel kinda hollow. They don’t have as much personality, their limitation are industry bound, not hardware bound. I picture it like the SNES, N64, Ps1, Ps2, OG Xbox, etc… were the underdogs that had to fight their way to the top, with creativity in features and creativity in the games. Consoles now feel like the preppy kid that already has everything going for them. There’s no struggle or appreciation. Their origin story is, “they showed up and we’re already the best”

It is not useless. If you don't have a controller or your phone with you, you need to use the sync button to pair a controller. Additionally, during start up, you can hold the sync button to enter a secure boot, which allows you to offline update or reset your console. It is more than useless, it is extremely useful in the right circumstances.

I’m still really confused to this day about how when I first powered on my new series X and the controller that came with it, the controller was automatically linked to the Xbox and I was able to control it without actually syncing the controller to the Xbox. No idea how that happened.

You can double press the sync button on your controller to switch between your console and PC. If you've had both connected back to back

You can also just plug the controller in once and it should automatically pair even when you unplug it.

After doing that, the accessories app will remain unsatisfying in my last played list

Honestly i just use the Sync button, but the Xbox Accessories app is where you do the Updates for your Xbox Controllers.. Soo good for that, but alittle too involved just to Sync a controller Plus isnt there also a way to have the controller save two different consoles or Xbox USB Adapter, i think you double press the Controller link button after turning it on, to have it switch between them. I forget exactly right now..

I just plug a USBcord into the controller and power on the controller then unplug and it syncs without pressing buttons helps when syncing multiple controllers for couch co op parties

So go through all those options in menu settings just to avoid getting up to push a button. I get it if your console is high on a mounting device and out of reach for the kids but the button is far from obsolete.

The RB button needs reinforcing , it always breaks first even on the 300$AU elite conrllers , at least on them I can reconfigure the RB button to one of the extra paddles.

But you need to have an already paired and connected controller in order to do this. The sync button is useful, if you are buying a new controller to replace your old one that is broken or lost. And some people just want to press a simple button and have things work instead of going through all this manual bullshit

I just plug a USB cable from the console to the controller and turn it on, instantly synced. I always have a USB plugged in so that's what i do.

Is there currently a way to finally use the rear expansion port for more storage with a SSD or something besides the Xbox Seagate one that's ridiculously expensive? They should of just put a USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 port on it which would have been plenty fast enough with a good fast external SSD to match, and Xbox could of paired up with Seagate and made an Xbox branded one, but still allow people to make their own setups. Plus you could use USB-C to USB-C charging cables for the controller to keep it smaller, even if only one of the USB-C ports was the high speed version that would be fine if its labeled. Maybe have the high-speed in the Rear and the other USB-C port in the front for charging, media storage, accessories, etc..

Or just connect the controller to the console with USB cable, and they pair up instantly

Playstation controller connects easily just by plugging it in to the console, the same way you would charge it

So I don’t think it’s useless when you don’t have any controllers synced up with your Xbox. Press both buttons is a whole lot easier and quick than going through menu.

Did you know if you don't have a controller synced and you don't want to have to use an app to get it connected the xbox has this very usefull button on the console that you push and then you push a similar button on the controller and it will pair automatically and you don't have to waste 5 minutes doing it through an app!?

Its easier than having to navigate thru all the xbox library to find an app to then do it and even still its better than ps4 idk abt 5 but half of the time you had to reset your ps4 controller and have a spare just to resync your initial controller especially if you used it for Bluetooth mobile gaming usually never connected to a ps4 properly after that even w a wire

Omg that seem like such a pain. Just get up and press the button. How far away can the console be. And I'm sure it's quicker to press the button on the console then to interrupt a gaming sesh to go to home screen, navigate to the pair screen and do it that way.

As a new Xbox owner, I was so confused as to what the button was. The Series S doesn't have a disc drive, so that couldn't have been it and it's not some sort of emergency off button. Glad to know its something useless and not some sort of hidden feature.
