I made a mistake in the actual expensive doll showcase part. Kuroyukihime was around $200, making her my most expensive 1/6 scale doll... Aside from the Gold Bloom at $300- I don’t know why I started talking about 17 inch dolls after? Lol

I get really uncomfortable not when I talk about the price of a single doll, but when someone asks me how much I spent on my doll collection 😶 like... that's for me and the good lord to know💀

You make me realize that prices are for ones perspective I spent 1000 on 7 limited edition dolls I thought it was a good deal but have felt like I did something wrong spending so much on dolls but after hearing ur opinion I realize I was fine buying them I no longer have to feel guilty for paying so much on a few dolls, and it's ok to work a lot of overtime to pay for them like u do so I feel much better now thanks for sharing

Money is all about perspective, especially when it comes to collectors. My perspective is fairly similar to yours. The most expensive items in my collections are not always my favorites. The expensive prices were just what I had to spend to add that item I wanted to my collection -- especially for anime figures, which have high retail prices to begin with. (I collect both anime figures and dolls. I don't often find people who collect both, so I'm kinda split between communities.) I enjoy these chatty videos. :)

Oh i totally feel what you said in the whole disclaimer about how everyone will see it differently, like my jaw dropped when you said you spent $60 on a poster, but then my parents have the same reaction to me dropping $50 on a barbie or anime figure lol.

I love your videos! I started collecting Rainbow High dolls around 3 months ago and it makes me so happy to see someone else completing and enjoying their doll collections. I just started looking for Yummi-Land dolls because I want to finish the collection I started as a kid, and they're so hard to find (at an affordable price)! Do you come across them a lot in your doll hunting? They seem to be kind of obscure but I remember them being such a big part of my childhood.

I love chat videos!! We’re not gonna talk about how much my Franklin Mint Titanic trunk cost and how much I regretted it immediately after (no regrets now though!!!), especially knowing I have to buy a missing outfit. Anyway, as a fan of the series, it makes me sad how much Disney sidelined Elena. I was so excited that they made an LE for her. She was the first LE I got, but because they didn’t make the effort to let people know the show, they didn’t sell out. Heck, they had to clearance them online. Which means that you’re right. They will never make another. I’m also of the opinion that they messed up by not offering fashion packs for the play line dolls. I know some people love having multiples and displaying all the clothes, but due to space, I don’t have the room (or money) to buy a new Elena doll with the same face and body just because they stuck her in a different dress (and since people rarely sell just the clothes, mine wears mostly old Barbie clothes). It’s always cool to see how different people approach doll collecting. I’m not a completionist for most things, personally. I typically just buy the dolls I really like. Sometimes out of preference and sometimes for practicality reasons (which is why I only have two RH dolls though I love them). But my true weakness is CLOTHES. I love changing my dolls’ clothes, so they have piles of them. Which reminds me that I need to put my EoA girls in their fancy holiday outfits. XD

I'm like you; I like to stretch my money and get the best deal possible for the dolls I want. Some of the most expensive dolls are ones I'm not even interested in. And on the other hand, some of the mass market dolls are the ones I want the most.

During Covid because I had the time to research on the dolls I did not have or getting all of my dream dolls or bucket list dolls and spent quite a lot. However, I often get gilted by friends or family members or people who just know that I collect dolls. I constantly hear that whwhat do is ridiculous, waste of time and a true waste of someone’s talent and intelligence. When you said that you were getting your masters in paleontology I thought to myself, “ this girl is highly intelligent and she is collecting dolls too”. So thank you

It's cool to know about the price of things. I like these kind of talks. But I understand it's not an easy one given the general stigma around dolls anyways although anyone can guess doll collecting is obviously not cheap. Collecting in general isn't cheap anyways. It's a lifestyle we choose because we have love for it!

I always say that everyone has the things they would willingly spend more on. So it is different for everyone. My bff would spend way more on purses than I ever would but she would never spend money on dolls or other collectables. I totally understand she loves purses like I love other collectables. It's cthe beauty of diversity in all of us. I totally get the value in the nib doll especially if you want complete and in good condition. If i can find 2nd hand in a condition I appreciate or can fix great. If not I will get nib if I can. I felt like adding a comment I hope that was ok. I personally have decided to collect very vintage 1960 to 1980 barbie so most are not nib. I do appreciate your videos more than you know. They keep me up to date on dolls. And my doll loving toddler loves to tell me which of your dolls she likes. She actually decided she was going to take my 1969 twist and turn christie doll. The first black barbie. I collect a bunch of doll lines but the one that was my focus was Monster High. I recently found a doll I had not seen before, or if I had it was in passing and I put her out of my mind as never being able to find it. One of Mattels factories in Indonesia makes "Birthday" dolls for their employees. I dont know how often they are made, if its every year or every couple...more research is needed. I stumbled across Candy. She is rare and when I saw her for sale I thought about it for two seconds. I paid roughly what I would for a SDCC doll in the years they were released. Now I am slightly disappointed. She was very dirty, the box had no plastic window in it (they way they came), and her hair has some staining. The quality is low, I get it. I kind of expected that. But I am still thrilled to have her. I just wish I had known before hand is all. I would buy her again in a heart beat. Stained hair and uncoordinated outfit and everything. She is the Queen of my collection as she was never sold in stores. I understand what you mean about Intrinsic value. I hunt, and I have come across some great deals over time. I do have some missed opportunities but every time that happens I take as a learning point. My budget is LOW, so I have to plan out what I spend but when something comes up I go for it!

Not the most expensive, but the most Overpriced. I paid like 250$ for a 1/6 scale Volks Lost Angel doll, "Evil Girl Cthulhu". !1/6 scale! But she is discontinued and never shows up for auction, so I couldn't argue; had to have her. one of my favorites.

I've actually been talking about value lately, mostly in reference to a trend in a specific style of anime figures? but it's the same general market trend as what's happened with a lot of doll lines. Like you said, popular doll/figure goes for (imo) absurdly high amount that are not equal to the worth of it (either in quality or compared to what they typically went for 2nd hand) because there's people who will pay that much. I've thought a lot about like, the psychology of that? how because something is so desirable to enough people, does that attract more people to it, who otherwise probably wouldn't be that interested in having it, simply because it's considered to be so valuable now? Or how popular KZfaqr's opinions on something affects their value? There's just a lot of complexities to these trends and I'm both very fascinated by them and also a little tired of them!

Before the release of the gcbs bratz and bratz holiday Felicia is the most I’ve ever spent on dolls. Before that the most I ever spent on 1 doll was in October and I got a bratz girls night out cloe almost complete and hair was in great condition. I spent $50 on that girls night out cloe .
