Bro this is probably some of the best advice alot of people will ever get, a concept that took me a decade to come to terms with, you don't have to be everything for your music all at once, composition is creative intent, where expression lives and the song comes to life, not in mixing and mastering , you can't give life to a dead song.. mixing and mastering is just ensuring that intent is delivered in its best possible form... So if the song sucks guess what?? That fact becomes even "clearer" after mastering 😅. keep dropping the gems X.

Thanks for the video as always.. in Malawi, the landscape of the industry forces you to be both a mixer and composer because the industry is not well structured enough to satisfy the segregation of duties like that. imo for me as a beginner. watching mix and mastering videos do make me a better at composition because these ppl give a lot of insigns about how to layout your idea and sound design cleaner and smarter. so you don't overdo your track and need to re-fix your instruments a lot. (it's like know how to step back a liltle bit to see things overall through different perspective) especially edm genre that has to deal a lot with specific FX sound and unatural dynamic of frequencies. so if you know how to plan all these stuffs in your workflow well. Your ideal sound would be almost precisely match the output of what you want easier.

Speaking fact... A good song is a good song naturally. mixing and mastering doesn't change the song but only enhance the song. If it's a trash it's a trash!

Very true, if your sound selection is poor, composition is bad, drums are not balanced, and recording is trash... the mixing portion will be filled with corrective FXs, which will eat the CPU processing power and fixing at the mastering chain process, which is bad news.

Also there's hit songs with bad mixes...the song being fire is the main thing. Eleanor rigby by the Beatles is a good example, vocals too quiet, clashing bass and balance is off...still a hella famous song

Mixing and mastering can only polish a turd. But it can also take a great song and make it a classic ! But I agree. Producing is a skill. And you have to master that skill. Or you will end up on the turd side of the tracks. Lol
