I decided to play this game cuz I beat every game I own on 3DS. That was not a mistake. This is a game that deserves to be in a list of top 5 games of all time in my books.

I just love that when robots invade and seem to be invincible/impossible to even damage at all that the hero still charges head even tho there is no chance of victory while giving it all and risking his own life. Such display of bravery is amazing

I don't know what version I like more. I love both the original and the remastered versions of this music track.

This song is one of the best boss themes I have EVER HEARD. The intro is so powerful, and then... 0:53 happens. My god, that shift to a more melodic motif really drives this one home. It's like you are going up against an actual hard boss, trying to survive. Especially in Mechonis Core. The DE version just is a lot less climactic, and therefore just feels a lot more slower. This is the best version. Another fact is this is actually in another mode rather than major/minor, this is in the Phrygian Mode.

So many battles I struggled on... What a smashing theme! It's so invigorating.

Xenoblade Chronicles definitite edition was the first time i go to played xenoblade, i already knew of it cause well i'm a gamer and came across you will know our names and since then i fell in love with the game, just cause of one song, i couldn't wait to get my hands on it and when i did and i got to listen to that in combat oh man i felt chills down my spine, i idied obviously cause i was underlevel but fuck me did i try several times just to jam to that song and then when SPOILERS and listen to the rest of the soundtrack, oh man, i had the best 100+ hours of my entire life. Xenoblade is one of those special games that even with it's flaws manage to charm me from begining to end and now i cannot wait for Xenoblade 3.

I prefee this version over the remaster, at 0:56 i can hear the beat and the instruments clearly,, on the remaster it sounds less spacious, less clear, I feel that the sound is very compressed on the new one.

In a game with one of the best soundtracks of all time, in my opinion, it feels like a shame to waste my title of best song on something as simple as this. Looking back, this song barely does anything unique. It doesn't have the catchiness of Makna Forest or Riki the Legendary Heropon, the emotional weight of Engage the Enemy or Tragic Decision, or the epic battle feelings of Mechanical Rhythm or You Will Know Our Names. But while it may not excel specifically at any one of those traits, An Obstacle in Our Path takes everything I love about those 3 things, and combines it into one of the best songs in one of the best soundtracks of all time, as well as one of my favourite boss themes of all time, next to Never Let Up and Battle! Galactic Commander. The song starts out with my least favourite part. Luckily for this song, I love this part anyway. It sounds imposing and menacing. It sounds like your being stared down by a massive opponent, threatening your very existence. The chaos of all the instruments and unforgettably catchy melody makes these few phrases phrases to remember. Every time I hear this part, I get immediately hyped, setting up perfectly for what's to come. In a way, having the weakest part first works to its advantage. This lets it continue to get better as the song goes on, the quality not dipping until the loop. The transition to the next melody at 0:33. This melody changes pace completely, going for a more epic fight feeling, and it works, it works really well. It sounds like fighting back to no avail, filled with emotion in every note. 0:50 is when the song goes from phenomenal, to exceptional. The melody stops, until a little *clap clap* leading into 0:54. This part is incredibly beautiful. The quick arpeggios on violin in the background combine with the electric guitar perfectly to set the atmosphere for an incredibly beautiful melody. The aforementioned clap-clap is a turning point, emotionally in the song. The sadness of losing turns into the hope and ambitions of winning, creating an absolutely beautiful and inspiring melody, still made threatening by the previously acknowledged chaos below. I didn't think they could make this one part better, but they do somehow. When this part loops, it is to die for. It maintains all the feelings of the original, but somehow magnifies them due to being placed after a quite imposing melody. I'm in love every time this melody plays, and I enjoy every second of it far more than I probably should. Finally, 1:27 and 2:33, especially the latter, do an absolutely astounding job of breaking up the inspiration to remind you of the obstacle in your path. Every part of this song is one I love to death. I haven't even mentioned a bunch of my favourite aspects of this song yet, like the instrument choices. All that really needs to be said is that at 0:54, all my favourite aspects of Xenoblade music are wrapped up into a catchy, memorable melody that makes every moment epic, which makes up only a small part of one of the best songs I've ever heard.

In Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Final Fantasy 12's boss battle theme (simply called Boss Battle) is given a more proper title, "That Which Stands In The Way". Xenoblade Chronicles is directly inspired by FF12's gameplay (the open area real time combat) and even some stylistic decisions (the character models have similarly wide, expressive mouths). So this boss theme is essentially Xenoblade's version of FF12's boss theme.

This one sounds like desperation and struggle, while the remastered sounds more menacing and chaotic. I guess both have their value, but I just associate the scenes it plays in with desperation, so my personal pick is the original.
