One thing that I feel kinda conflicts with the idea that Dickson is from a time after Arglas, is that you clearly see them together in a flashback (this flashback is on Prison Island too, for some weird reason). Egil remembers Dickson. I think the Giants mostly 'died out' because they were 'returned' to a pure Telethia form to combat the Mechonis, just like the High Entia were returned to purge the Bionis' life.
@ParadigmShulk
@ParadigmShulk 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, my response would be that who you actually see with Dickson is Zanza! When Zanza inhabits a body, he is able to stay in it far past the creature's natural lifespan, as we see when he states he had intended to reside in Shulk for the next millennia. So, I'd suggest then that the giants continued to evolve (and die) as Zanza continued to inhabit Arglas, who was living much longer than most. And so, the rest of the race continued to die out and evolve, while Arglas's body still remained due to Zanza inhabiting it (during which it also grew over 20 feet tall!) Still, thought provoking nonetheless, and thanks for bringing it up!

@@ParadigmShulk That's a good point. However, I still feel something is off here. If Arglas was inhabited by Zanza for this long, that seems to conflict with Egil's inclusion. When Arglas was Arglas, Egil was his friend. When he became possessed by Zanza, he attacked Mechonis (or else he'd have to pretend to be Arglas for years, which I really don't see Zanza do). It was during this attack on Mechonis that Arglas was imprisoned on Prison Island. I don't see any time where Zanza, inside Arglas, could just be living life normally, unless he stayed Egil's friend for ages.

Thirteen 1355 when you have beings like Machina who love for millennia, time gets seen differently. They might only meet up every few 100 years for example. Also Arglas looked pretty old in the flashback already, so they might have become friends when he was already pretty ancient (as we don’t know how long the Giants lived for, which might be similar to High Entia), at which point the descendants of Giants might have already devolved/evolved a lot. Another thing is we don’t know how many cycles of Telethia extinction have happened which might speed up mutations due to reduced populations.

Someone else mentioned something like this, but I don't think that the Homs would be directly descended from the Giants, but perhaps there was some interbreeding between a Homs-like ancestor species and the Giants' species - resulting in some Giants taking smaller (more homs-like) forms. Perhaps there would be two separate species of giants which diverged from the more dragon-esque ancestor - resulting in the Arglas species and the Dickson species. Afterall, we see that both of them existed at the same time. It would be presumable that the Dickson species would be the one that interbred with the Homs-like ancestors then. Then the result of the interbreeding would be the modern Homs, while the pure-bred Giants went extinct.

That's quite possible, and very thought provoking! My way of thinking surrounding seeing Arglas next to Dickson is that it was not Arglas there, but instead Zanza. This makes it different, because Zanza, as far as we can tell (by him saying he intended to live in Shulk for the next millennia), extends the lifespan of the being he is inhabiting almost indefinitely. So, I would suggest that while Zanza inhabited Arglas's body (for an unknown amount of time), that the rest of the giants continued to die off as normal, and thus continued to evolve. But, your way of viewing it is quite possible as well, and a pretty cool way of looking at it! -E

Interesting, that could also explain why Homs are able to breed with High Entia. Maybe in the distant past, some Giants and Telethia created children, some appearing with more Telethia-like features and others appearing with more Giant-like ones (the Phoenix Telethia comes to mind, slight humanoid appearance, much smaller wings, but too tall to be a Homs/High Entia). This would also explain why Dickson's Giant form has Telethia physiology, he has tan, human-like wings with the ones touching the ground bearing a much clearer resemblance to the goo-skin that the Telethia have.

@ParadigmShulk

It's pretty cool how consistent Monolith Soft was with their architecture! Aside from the one quarry ruin on Bionis' Shoulder, which is supposed to be special since it has the music of Prison Island playing inside it to say "hey look at me, I'm just like the Prison Island ruins!" (although, I knew that even before the music started playing hehe)... All of the ruins on the Bionis Shoulder only use assets used in the ruins on Bionis' Leg. No mixing of Satorl Marsh or Makna Forest ruins, allowing for a consistent timeline. There's also their consistency with making sure that all the giants ruins have large enough scale and enough head space to fit a giant, until we get to the Bafalgar Tomb, where the sudden difference in scale is used intentionally by the developers to tell a story! They really do have great attention to detail in this game, and it's part of what makes it my favorite. -E

I feel like the theory of the Giants being the sole progenitors of the Homs can't be entirely right, as there were other Homs colonies across the Bionis, not just at the feet. There's also the cutscenes from Alvis showing the direct creation of the Homs in Zanza's image. However, maybe the smaller evolved giants were to the Homs of the lower regions like the Neanderthals were to early European Homosapiens, leading to a spread of Giant DNA throughout the Homs race, and allowing the interbreeding of Homs and High Entia. This might even be why the only non-possessed wielder of the Monado comes from Colony 9, as those in Colony 9 would likely have a higher concentration of Giant DNA, just like how Europeans have higher concentrations of Neanderthal DNA. The Giant DNA might make them more compatible with the Monado or something, idk. Just my thoughts!
@ParadigmShulk
@ParadigmShulk 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Well, it's also possible that giants who escaped Tephra Cave did not just stick around at Colony 9, or they also escaped at the other end toward Bionis' Leg, and went on to establish other colonies around Bionis. Another possibility is that not all the giants were even in Tephra Cave to begin with, and maybe the history in Bafalgar tomb only documents one of the tribes. Although, the giants at Satorl Marsh did also fight with White Spiders. I can't say for certain! I like your explanation though! Also yeah, I have wondered if that scene with creating life out of thin air might have been more figurative than literal when Alvis showed it to Shulk. Not sure about that either. -E

I had a theory too but with no evidence at all, it's just something that crossed my mind the first time I played the game in wii many years ago. The winged demons that you find in prison island, look a lot like the giants... the size is almost as big if not big enough, and the faces and beards... maybe they could be corrupted versions of the original giants, created by zanza? They live in the biggest ruins of the giants too. Back then it looked like too much of a coincidence. But maybe the size doesn't match. Related to the video, there are a few problems... evolution in this world doesn't need to make sense. Because of Zanza and Meyneth. They did whatever they wanted. Zanza FORCED evolution, I mean, he created the creatures. He created the telethia with cells of his own body and he shaped giants and high entia using the telethia. So, while I LOVE these theories, in the end normal evolution does not exist in this world. Or at least we can't take it for granted. At every step the whimsical Zanza could have intervened. For example, maybe it was Zanza, controlling Arglas, who changed the architecture of the giants to make it darker. Maybe the chronology is the opposite: The darker architecture was later, when Zanza took control of the leader of Bionis and the leader of the giants. Fascinating stuff anyway.
@ParadigmShulk
@ParadigmShulk 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, hmm. You're definitely right that the kind of evolution there is in Xenoblade is not normal, as it's very different from how evolution works in our world. It happens much faster, at least. There is some evidence for evolution. Most of the creatures you see in Prison Island have a similar form of life on Bionis that seems to have evolved from it. The high entia ancestors also predict the high entia will "evolve within 8 generations" whatever that means. And you're right, divine intervention is always a question. How heavy of a role did Zanza have in evolution, and did he guide it at all, nobody can really say for certain. However, I think the fact life would forget about him over time meant he had a pretty distant hand in it all at least. Can't say for certain though! When it comes to the chronology on prison island, the three things I think about that point toward it being the most ancient of the ruins are 1) the history of the ancient high entia telling of it existing long before them, 2) how the three sage summit ruins must be unlocked by the three giants treasures, requiring the three sage summit ruins to have existed before the ruins which those artifacts came from, and 3) finally the statues of the telethia and/or dragonkin being present. But, it is still not fully concrete, and to some element it's up to you to decide! -E
@Alfonso88279
@Alfonso88279 4 жыл бұрын
@@ParadigmShulk Well, Prison island can be the oldest ruins ever but even then, corruption is something that exists even in architecture. If we modify an old cathedral, the style suddenly change. Maybe we think it's better that way, or it's more solid, but we do it every time. The thing is, prison island is really, really important. Is the throne for Zanza. It directly connects with the brain of Bionis. It has to be old, but at the same time, it has to be modern, if you follow my thinking. And the telethia statues... Telethia are Zanza's servants. Loyal to the very end to Zanza. And just look at the place, it's sinister and Zanza is a psychopath with divine powers. Probably Zanza was who connected prison island to Bionis' brain, because who else. He was the mind and heart of Bionis. And there is something more. The conquest of Mekonis wasn't fast. At some point of the story it looks like it took centuries. Enough time to change the giants forever, to force them to become the kind of people that would have built those sinister temples. Oh, about the dragon statues. Zanza and the telethias. Serving Zanza, is serving the telethia and if we accept that dragons and telethia are closely related, then it makes even more sense that the dark architecture is a product of Zanza's influence.

What I find the most interesting about this theory is that Homs are basically just humans, yet they naturally evolved into existence from a less human form. And since the entire Xenoblade 1 world was created by actual humans (or technically just 1 human: Klaus), it makes me wonder how much influence Zanza has over the evolution of the world.

Have you ever considered doing a video on the significance of Hover Stone? It felt odd that they put so much focus on it so suddenly in future connected that it might be pointing to something. My personal theory is that the Hover Stone is the key connecting evidence that the giant ring ruins in Oblivia on X are actually the ruins of Alcamoth seeing as Oblivia is also home to the most floating islands in the game. I mean it's pretty obvious at this point that Mira is Shulk's world considering the presence of a Telethia and Miranium basically just ether crystals being dug up from the ruins of the Bionis below. Not to mention other in game items with peculiar descriptions plus Nopon mentioning legends that could easily refer to the Bionis and Makna. Not to mention now that it's been confirmed that X was made with connecting the worlds in mind it's not like they had any other games to link it to so it likely isn't Alrest. Idk man I just haven't seen anyone actually put a reasonable video on this stuff before without weird crazy theories.

The problem with Mira being a future version of the world seen in Xenoblade 1 is that we know from Xenoblade 2 that it was created from Earth, but Earth clearly exists in X
@ParadigmShulk
@ParadigmShulk 4 жыл бұрын
I'll have to look into that! I don't remember much about the ruins on Oblivia as it's been a while. There is other evidence pointing to Mira being the world at the end of Xenoblade, like the Oblivia rings and things related to nopon, but also evidence against it now that I've gone into Future Connected and been able to observe that it's not the same nighttime sky... So... hard for me to say, I have to do more thinking on the connections between the games now actually.
@nykylaihellray2028
@nykylaihellray2028 4 жыл бұрын
Val actually it is still very easy to link them. When Shulk recreated the universe it was very likely based on what Alvis showed him of the old universe. The new universe as such inherits similar patterns. The earth of the Mira universe is obviously not the earth of XC2, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be a new earth created millions of years after the events of XC1. The Samaarians are pretty much a mystery and we don’t know how they made a new humanity after they came from another plane. If you remember Xenosaga, the themes of eternal recurrence ring true here, similar patterns are doomed to repeat.

I like your giants theory.I like the idea that Zanza's monado can't harm creatures who share Zanza blood and are intelligent till he unleashed it.It could harm monsters and telethia because not sentiant and but not Zanza desendents.If horms from giants and High Entia desended from same origin then they could breed with each other.I like the idea that Prison Island creatures were orginal and pure design for all other non intelegent life on Bionis and unaltered by time and evolution.Like a evil garden of Eden meets Noah ark.It could be were life began and were Zanza ended.

I'm sorry, I know this is somewhat trivial, but lions and tigers cannot create ligers. Humans create ligers. Tigers and lions have very few overlapping habitats. And they are both very territorial. And tigers have nowhere they can learn lion social behaviours necessary to fit into a pride. So it is proper lightning in a bottle stuff for a lion and a tiger to actually make the babies together. Most ligers are in fact the result of some human robbing a baby tiger from the mother and robbing a baby lion from their mother and locking the two babies in a cage together doing whatever is necessary to make them have sex as soon as they're grown up enough for it. That's where ligers most commonly come from. And despite being physically larger than both tigers and lions, ligers are not stronger. Ligers are one of many animal hybrids that suffer from countless health issues and live short painful lives. They are bred by humans. They have not been naturally selected for by evolution. As such, they are not actually equipped to survive. Some animals bred by humans do still occupy ecological niches and so are built to actually survive. But not ligers. I am perhaps nitpicking, but ligers are not what happens when a tiger meets a lion. Ligers are what happens when a lion and a tiger meets a human. Especially a human who breeds animals just for aesthetic appearances and no other quality.
