XG has openly stated that some of their biggest influences are TLC, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child and Lauryn Hill.. so that 90s R&B vibe is very prominent in their music and I love it! Its like a perfect blend of mid/late 90s with a modern twist added.

Yeah they said in an interview their main identity is rnb & hip hop. Skills wise they went viral for their rapping, vocals are amazing live, even the rappers can sing well & their dancing is very advanced, almost dance crew-esq. For 5 years of training they are very well rounded.

The reason why the older generation is getting into XG is because of AAVE some of you are complaining about. Almost all black fans from the US love it. Are you kidding me ? The xypher would not have blown up if they didn't rap the way the did. I laugh when the one calling CA and culture vulture are not even black. XG has shown that they appreciate African American music and they are not appropriating. Oh and about the braids ... you want to be petty? Do we tell people not to get yakuza style sleeve tattoos? Do we tell people not to get tattoos with Japanese characters?.. should we tell blacks girls name Yashika to change their name since it is know that it comes from Yashiko?. How about artist that give their kids japanese names?. Never did the Asian community called out Wu Tang Clan, never did the Asian community said oh the movie the last dragon should get cancel out since the Kung fu fighters are black and not Asian. This CA bull is recent back in the days we had none of that. As long as they are respectful to the culture and the way they are using it, it should not be a problem.

The rainbow colorful is a Japanese culture known as Harajuku style which inspired the western culture to create Y2K in the early 2000's just like Gwen Stafani created The Harajuku Girls, XG is different and approach the industry as a global HipHop/R&B/Pop, in their interviews they have mentioned TLC,Aalyiah,LaurenHill as their major influence. XG is quietly making their way up but with good music and good style and young, ages are from 17 to 21 XG deserves more recognition but slowly will take over the world, they're awesome🔥

One of the things that I think makes these MVs so dope is that they have a very high percentage of real physical sets instead of CG, even on really crazy sets like the snow one in Shooting Star. It just gives all the scenes that extra level of punch. Avex has given this group only the most ultra-premium treatment when it comes to production values and styling.

I love how skeptics change their tune at the end lol. Great reaction. Their concept is IMO, is that they are aliens from another galaxy. And you pointed out they look like Kaiju’s running around the city. In Left Right, you see them as giants on top of the ship. And they can also shrink down to normal size. Their mid-century style fit are the aliens and crew. Meanwhile the y2k fits are them as giants. So basically they are the giants taking over the world. That’s my take on it

I came to know of XG through their producer Simon. He was in an underrated 2nd gen K-pop group that I was a fan of called DMTN. His father is Korean, his mother is Japanese, and he's from the US, so he has an understanding of the 3 different cultures, languages, and music markets. All of this, along with him growing up in the 90s-00s, has been a huge influence on the group: their Western sound, releasing songs in English, having Japanese (and mixed Japanese) members, training and living in Korea, etc. There are also rumours that Hikaru may join XG after her time in Kep1er.

They're actually they're been trained in Japan for 5 years before going to Korea. They're going back and forth for the training and promotion,. They do not belong to K-Pop genre. They're all Japanese members that they should belong to J-Pop then K-Pop, but people called them a Japanese Global Group. They're under AVEX Japanese Company and partnered with Korean Company only. AVEX is funding most of the productions.

Left Right really is the XG gateway drug lol, that's how they got me too. Mascara and Tippy Toes are definitely growers for me as well for the reasons you mentioned. I'm excited to see more from XG. They have the potential to put out an insanely solid discography and the girls seem very talented and passionate. I hope they promote in the US too. They would make a killing for sure

LOL I died when you went to A TAB OF ACID when she licked the stamp. The theme of shooting star is apparently they are like a delivery app. I only put that together when they explained it in the Behind the Scenes for the MV. and I LOVE the Mid-late 90s vibes from the sound and video vibe. I'm old and it was so nostalgic and it took me back to watching TRL after school. and a lot of the hip hop tones in Mascara remind me more of British female hiphop artists in tone and delivery. Harvey really contributes to that for me.

What helps this feel even more cohesive is that ostinato you hear at the beginning actually runs through almost the entire track. Introduce the theme by itself so the listeners can familiarise themselves, then have it supplement the progression of the song - that's some good songwriting there. Also, you don't know how validated I felt when you referenced Aaliyah during Left Right. That's exactly where my mind went when I heard the song for the first time 😆

The Shooting Star MV is Rigend Film, and yes, they are _always_ high quality and crazy with the edits - like, they made Seventeen's Hot (edits like MAD and again with the pyrotechnics!) but also Seventeen's Fallin' Flower (one of the most BEAUTIFUL kpop MVs ever). It's definitely XG's most expensive video, although Mascara is from VM Project Architecture, another frequent Seventeen collaborator, although it looks like a different person (or they're using a different name). Jinooya Makes did Left Right MV; you would know them from NCT Dream's Go, which is about as different from LR as an MV could be lol (also did Ten's New Heroes, a few Winner and Jay Park MVs). You seem to really enjoy the vocal line so an easy, post-Tippy Toes guide: light hair = Hinata; bangs = Juria; no bangs = Chisa

This was my exact journey with Mascara. It ended up being one of my favorite songs from 2022. The Anthem-ness of it got me. I love Shooting Star and Left Right as well. Tippy-Toes is the one song I've never gotten into.

Those two videos covered the Shooting Star music video filming and showed the sets + how they filmed it. There's almost 0 green screen used in this MV. ^^

You can easily spot her as most time she has blonde or light hair colour compared to other members. Like in tippy toes and mascara she's the only full blonde, in shooting star she's pink and in left right she's platinum silver 15:10... that's jurin. Leader, centre, lead rapper and main dancer. Fan fact, yeah I do agree the MV for Left Right might not be as good as Shooting Stars, only because, Left Right was in fact a B-side only for Shooting Stars, but since the hype for it was real, they had to come up with a MV for it in a short notice, call it as a fan service if you will, the song was really good by itself already, in my years of listening to k - pop, this is a first time for me to see a B-side with a real MV from the producers. Nice to see you on the XG Train, Like you I never into the Rap western style either not my cup of tea as you say, but their vocals and the really good chorus gravitates me toward them more, Their dancing is what first my caught attention on them, they are really good dancers, will look forward to your reactions to the dance performance of each of this songs, its a treat as well, more power to your channel sir

They are different from groups nowadays. They be really singing,singing. The message of their songs usually is about team work and empowerment. The organic growth they got, dasurb. I was in kpop for some time now and confused at first bec usually kpop are the ones be doing groups nowadays. They really are well rounded and flexible as they can do a wide scope of music and now bringing back 90s and early 2000s vibe. Guess they really are with talents since the beginning and are now even better with the right training. What is happening in Japan? I like some of the rapping, but yeah…some of the vocal tones used for the raps are really not my thing either (that tone is the exact reason I dont really vibe with blackpink actually). However, every other aspect of the music is SO fucking good Im more than happy to look past it haha.

The Shooting Star MV is directed by Rigend Film - and they are some mad mv directors in Korea who've also done Seventeen HOT, Twice Talk that Talk, Scientist and Nayeon's POP and Itzy Loco so they have great ones under their belt. And XG often work with Korean companies

I couldn’t get into their first two song but I loved their new releases in shooting star and left & right especially left & right, it’s just an easy listen pure rnb song. It makes sense considering the writer for left & right is an rnb singer herself That said I wish they make the rapper cocona parts and all rap parts don’t use the “blaccent”, one or two of the people who produce or manage the group grew up in America so they should know better maybe when it comes to these things like some of the hairstyles they gave to cocona in love stages made me uncomfortable That all said their live were good and they are super charismatic not to mention their company is backing them up heavily like ever since they debuted and I keep seeing their ads everywhere on KZfaq and they have promoted hashtags. I kinda understand how they are promoting as someone who followed jpop before kpop I can understand why promoting in Japan isn’t ideal for a group that want to be global but at the same time they are promoting heavily in Korea while they members are all Japanese and their company ceo is a shady person too so it’s like their company want them to face hate there idk I’m just confused; if anything is good out of promoting in Korea they did gain a lot of attention and their pretty mvs helped a lot as well so that’s good for them at least

I loved shooting star chours and left & right entirely because it’s rnb and it’s my favorite genre, but I didn’t like the rest of their music. I have been having issues with rappers and how they rap along with the rap parts lyrics like a lot of it is aave and they have “blackaccent” not to mention in a lot of stages some of the rappers especially the main rapper full on doing ca I’m familiar with Japanese entertainment industry and I know for long even before kpop was like it is do it and the ca is extra heavy there, ppl just don’t talk about it much because the media content from songs and all usually aren’t accessible much by international audience so things like that rarely get called out, but still this group is aimed as global group and the mv production and marketing value is super big so you would expect their company knows better but I guess not 😬 ( before anyone jumping me I’m black so this accent and ca of hairstyles and all makes me uncomfortable and I’m tired of it , like just because someone rap it doesn’t mean they should act like a black person ) Lowkey despite like I mentioned liking shooting star and loving left & right, I’m so confused because they all Japanese girls and the songs are in English and their company say they are a global group so why are they promoting in korea as a kpop group and I see a lot of people treating the group as kpop group and some reactors even compared them to rookie kpop groups and idk it shouldn’t be like that The vocalists are talented tho I like them a lot

As a former KPOP idol their executive producer should know how to sell in KPOP industry so that’s what he’s been doing, I guess. Selling in western countries is a whole different story - they’ve been doing small interviews in English but I dunno what else they can do for it. As for CA issue, they heavily listen to 90’s RnB and hiphop and intend to bring it back as a group so that’s how they picked up the accent maybe? If respect is key they have that. If it’s an automatic taboo I don’t think we’re living in a cross cultural world.

@@damobno1 Yes. 10000000%. Vikings had braids and cornrows 1000+ years ago. With all the insanely horrible issues on this planet and in society (40,000+ dead earthquake, famine, mass shootings, homelessness, natural disasters, genocide, war, etc etc etc its absolutely ridiculous to spend time and energy being offended by such pointless stupid bs. When you are on your death bed when your time comes trust me you aint gonna a give f about braids and accents.

Some real idiots on Earth still do not even want to acknowledge that KINKY CURLY hair can also happen to THE WHITEST OF WHITE people (mainly originating from Scotland/ Ireland. It's just as 'ethnic' there as it is on the continent of Africa). That means it CAN and DOES happen to those of European descent, no matter where they were born! Besides all that, XG is SUPPOSED to be a GLOBE-WIDE group for EVERYBODY to enjoy. CA is SO out-of style to bitch about (except for the goddamned Karens of the world, apparently). I have run into some of those 'people' (trolls) over the internet and I leave them with this: 'If HAIRSTYLE is your stupid 'Cultural Appropriation', then you have to give up ALL of your electronics and power in your house if you live outside of the United States. Electricity is AMERICAN in origin. You can have Steam-Powered vehicles but you are NOT allowed Electricity! You cannot have it BOTH ways; either you are OKAY with 'Cultural Appropriation' OR you are NOT OKAY with it. Go make up your mind, you goddamned hypocrite.'' See how fast they recoil from THAT idea. lol That's as fucking dumb as some White dickheads yelling at Spanish speakers in America to 'LEARN ENGLISH OR GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!' First, there is no one single 'Main Language' in the United States, by law. We accepted all kinds of people in the formation of the country. What's the problem now? They need that one Navajo guy to show up and scream in their faces 'LEARN NAVAJO, ONE OF THE ACTUAL NATIVE LANGUAGES ON THIS CONTINENT, OR GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!'. lol That dude is my hero. :D

I too was hesitant to dive in with them but I took a shot with this comeback and dang. I almost missed out on this banger. I can’t get enough of the vocals on the prechorus of shooting star. With left and right, I’m a sucker for RnB. They killed it with both MVs. Left and right MV is just a big throwback and I miss those days of TLC etc.

So I didn’t like any of their previous releases they were all over the place I know people love them because the girls are pretty and wow “girlcrush concept are the best for gg” that didn’t work for me, then they switched it up and did shooting star and I like the chours, hated the rap verses and the rest was meh, it did have great mv, then I fell in love with love left & right, it’s a good rnb song and I have been wanting groups to go back to doing r&b because it’s easily the best music genre, but I have issues with the groups: only few of these girls get to show their talents, way too much rappers and rap verses and a lot of usage of aave it’s super turn off like some of what they say is misused sentences that doesn’t make sense lol They are talented don’t get me wrong and I love left & right it’s one of my favorite songs released this year. I’m still confused what to label this group as like even if they are all Japanese they are not a jpop group and they aren’t promoting in Japan, the songs are fully in English and they aren’t promoting elsewhere and nothing about the group is related to kpop but they are promoting in Korea, it’s so confusing 😅

I hated tippytoes and mascara shooting star mv is insanely beautiful, how y2k concept should be shown in mvs they got the aesthetic down, the prechours and the chours for shooting star are great and catchy, but I hated the rap parts and even tho they are talented I have same issue with the group rappers just like I have with Lisa and other rappers, I don’t want to say it but the accent they are trying to have during the rap parts isn’t it and some words used is a misplaced and misused. I really wish non black rappers to stop doing that For left & right, this song is pure love and on repeat, they got the rnb formula correctly for this, it feels like a TLC song tbh which is amazing

When black sounds like white,for you it's normal. Wnen white sounds like black, you start scream about AAVE,CA and other strange thing. When black actors played in movies and shows white HISTORICAL character, for you it's normal. When someone did hairstyles with braid, you scream about,"how dare you,its our historical legacy" for 300 years max.And Scandinavian people do braids 1000 years ago. I have a question,in what time black people start be untouchable?
