Personally, this is like "the last dance" of skateboarding for me. Grew up wanting to be this dude and to hear his story is just amazing. Still remember his part in "the reason" and also "the dc video". Stevie at the top of his game. Always been a solid dude who forever kept it real. So glad he's getting his shine. Truly the GOAT for me. Kalis a real one too!

@@WolfWould Generally, KZfaq is considerably better than cable or broadcast TV. You can skip most of the ads. I've noticed some channels seem to insert a ton of ads intentionally though. This one is about the worst that I've seen. I skated in the 80s and got out of it for a couple decades and never knew who Stevie Williams was until recently. Pretty awesome dude. Makes me proud to be a skater with regard to what he said about all races coming together.

Being a skater from Philly in that era (93-99) I got to skate with so many incredible people. I remember the first time I met Stevie and being blown away by his raw talent as such a younger kid. I remember not seeing him there for a while and hearing he just up and left for San Fran, and being blown away. That’s the type of risk you gotta take to get your break in life no matter what the job/ circumstances are if you want to be a success. I’m glad he had so much success in life. If anyone deserves it it’s him. It’s also amazing and humbling to hear how much he’s done for the community and skateboarding as a whole. Mad props bro! Keep on living the dream.

I'm a lot older and came up on the eastside of LA. Skateboarding was a west LA phenomenon, specifically, Venice & Dogtown, the Z-Boys. Later in the 80s, when punk was taking off, Thrasher began melding punk & boarding. To this day, even tho I was never a skater, I got love for that culture - punk to its core. Stacy's "Dogtown & Z Boys" is a classic, particularly seeing "the original seed," Jay Adams (RIP). But I tuned in early to see the NBA playoffs and I caught the la st 40 minutes of this Stevie Williams doc. It is great, and took me back to a time when kids could feel free, no matter how many problems. I don't know if that's possible for kids these days - I hope so, but Stevie's story is a great one.

I crossed paths more than a few times with Stevie at LOVE Park in the early 90's - never had my board stolen, but you better believe that vibe was real - riding in from Jersey on the Speedline. One winter we built a DIY skatepark in an abandoned warehouse in Cherry Hill and I heard a rumor that a bunch of these guys from LOVE came and skated it. It is so surreal to listen to him tell his story... I have huge respect for the man he has become.

So crazy. I didn’t know anything about Stevie’s SF struggles. I met Stevie at Pier 7 when I was 12 and skating in the city on weekends. He asked me for a cigarette. I gave him one. I had seen him in 411VM #8 or #9, I can’t remember now, but I knew who he was and he was one of my favorite skaters then even, just from that 411VM WOF part. This must’ve been about 1994 I’m guessing. And I remember Profile too. Karl Watson threw a deck off the pier at Pier 7, and one of the little fat kids who went with us to the city to skate stripped down and jumped into the water to get it. Karl was laughing. Gave him a set of wheels too I think. But Stevie was already a legend and I saw him a few more times down at 7 hanging with Pat, York, Sanchez, Watson, and I think Brad Johnson. Those times were so magical for me. I was 12, in love with skating, and the city just kinda amplified my passion, pushed me to skate better. A few years later, I spoke to Karl Watson on the phone. I was in FTC and Karl called to tell the shop to save him one of his pro models. Either Andy or Joey told him, sorry Karl, some kid just bought it. Karl said, “put him on the phone”. Hilarious. He was stoked to hear I bought his board and asked me where I was skating. He said to meet him down at Pier 7 later and we’d skate together, so I did, and we did. I think I told him the Profile story where he threw the deck into the bay and my friend dove in. He laughed. I was trying so hard to get in with those guys then, but it was clicky. I was a peripheral kid in the city. I was pretty decent around 95/6 and getting a little more notice. But then life happened, girls, weed, booze, driving permit. But it’s crazy hearing Stevie talk about it, cause I thought he was being taken care of by sponsors and for me, it was like magical and inspiring to even see him there.
