Thanks Mr Blog…please don’t die.😊…for the comparison of your radios. I will say the XHdata D-608WB was surprisingly great sounding considering it’s marketed as an emergency radio. Have a great day!

The problem with the D-608 is two fold: first it has variable speed tuning which makes it very hard to do a band scan with the knob. The second is that it (and the D-109WB) gives spurious emergency alerts if there is a little background sound on the weather station. I had 10 false alarms between the two before I decided to turn the ALERT function off permanently. Sensitivity and audio are, however, quite good.

@@kwdavids1 Thanks for the reply, I have a CCradio3 for my main weather radio., but having another won’t hurt. In Tucson, Arizona most of our bad weather comes during the summer months with our Monsoon storms. My cellular phone also alerts me so I can turn on my radio to listen to the entire forecast. In my area I can only pickup 2 weather stations, the one in the Catalina mountains and the one on Black mountain in Phoenix, Arizona so hiss should not hurt my ears much. I have a few radios with variable speed knobs like my excellent Belka (2022) and have learned to slow my tuning speed not always successfully…😀! The audio sound is what drew me to it, and in weak signal country also the sensitivity. I mainly plan to use this for MW DXing outside as my CCradio 3 is rather clumsy to use without planning where to put it on my small table outside…but it good to listen to when properly arranged. 7e! I only saw this video now, very interesting comparison, thank you! I am quite impressed by the D-608, although I think some others here performed much better, like the R-108. I don't own the R-108, but it seems to be really good. Nice sound also.

Interesting comparison, thanks. No clear winner here. Fading would appear to make the D-608 a better receiver but it clearly shows later that's not the case. These radios are pretty much on par. It sounds a bit muffled IMO.

Looking for a portable sw radio that gets decent short wave reception. I have a Kaito Voyager Pro and the sw reception is terrible! Was thinking of getting a Tecsun PL 880

The PL-880 is certainly a very fine radio. I used to own one and there is content my the blog (www.blogordie.com) and this channel about it. I would still have the PL-880 except that I got a good deal on a PL-990.

If the PL-880 fits your price range, then go for it. Another good receiver at a lower price point (that I don't like for operational reasons) is the XHDATA D-808. The Eton Elite Executive is also good. I have a wealth of material on these on the blog.

I believe that FM on my D-608 is defective, so you will have to ask someone else.

I remember that the PL-390 (the predecessor to the PL-398) was quite good on FM, but I sold that radio years ago. I have a Qodosen SR-286 on order that promises to blow everything away on FM.
