China celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the nation’s Communist Party on July 1, 2021. President Xi Jinping, who is also party general secretary, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the ruling party’s achievements in front of more than 70,000 attendees. Senior officials who appeared alongside Xi at the Gate of Heavenly Peace included former president Hu Jintao, ex-premier Wen Jiabao, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng.

China may be ruled by a "Communist" party but China itself is not communist, like at all. It is simply a 1 party authoritarian regime that rules over a capitalist economy. Edit: everyone replying is looking at Chinas economy, government, and market system so black and white. Its incredibly nuanced. Sure private property doesn’t exist in the same way it does in Western countries. That does not refute that China has a market capitalist economy with their own unique authoritarian spin on it. If i want to open my own Yoga studio franchise i can virtually do it in the same way I could in Europe or North America.

I think Xi wore this because of the occasion. But either way, if Xi is bringing some Mao-like policies back, I support it. They opened up to controlled capitalism to build their economy and now that they're soon to be the most prosperous country on earth, they're back to socialism.

Not true. The suit known in Western as Mao Suit but in China it is known as the Zhongshan suit (中山装) which is not invented by Mao but the republican leader Sun Yat-sen (Sun Zhongshan). Sun Yat-sen introduced the style shortly after the founding of the Republic of China as a form of national dress with distinct political overtones. Sun Yat-Sen is well regarded in both Taiwan and PRC.

Can't never regain its former glory as long it still allowing US to sit in their neck. Remember plaza accord and Toshiba when Japan going to surpass US in term of economic? If you want to grow more powerful become US opposition not in their camp. Ofc there is only 2 outcome neither you rise like China or fall like lybia

As an Englishman looking at this video I have to say I’m extremely impressed how China has become a world superpower in all areas!! I congratulate China and the people of China and although I’m not a communist I admire how xi jinping and the CCP have transformed the country to a nation of pride and power ensuring all of their citizens have necessities needed for life. Carry on with what you’re doing China all the hate and anti China rhetoric from the west is just pure jealousy and envy that’s what it’s really about which makes me angry when we should be celebrating with China on their accomplishments. The world will be in a better place when China takes the place of the USA and the west and I’m not afraid to admit or accept that!! Long live China, Xi jinping and the CCP! 🇨🇳🇬🇧🤝🎉

The best thing that happened to China was the death of Mao, and the rise of Deng. A bad leader in his later years, Mao wrought great sufferings to the Chinese people. Will history repeat itself soon? Many ordinary Chinese and certainly most Chinese entrepreneurs and intellectuals, one suspects, quietly hope so. China can only be truly great if the talents of her people are freed from the shackles put on their minds.
@JoseRodriguez-pn8yj

So in other words, China can be great if cultural hegemony is resisted, see Antonio Gramsci. The advantage that Chinese people have, is that, as communism is actively promoted, learning about it for what Marx and Engels created it for, is a threat to all injustice everywhere.

I do not agree entirely with that view. China grew strong not by keeping its enemy weak. Excellent lesson. I'll take it to heart. It's not enough for us to win--we need to make sure China loses. Forever. I don't just want what they have. I want them not to have it. And there's nothing quite as soul-crushing as being forced to be civil with a people whose nation you hold in blackest contempt.

"Despite the COVID pandemic, no one was wearing a mask". See, that is how journalists are. They forgot to mention that China handled the pandemic well within the country so there was likely no need to wear a mask. Context matters. We in the West are only hearing about how horrible China is but it's not about what they are doing, but what we are NOT doing. You can disagree with policies and governments but to entirely disparage China because of politics is missing the point. The people of China have had to overcome so much hardship and they built up their country. No one can take that away from them.

What nonsense. China just finished having an armed border conflict with India, and is stockpiling weapons and building a huge navy to invade Taiwan. And also engaging in a war against Hong Kong, which has seen its legal system erode and its people persecuted. You’re filled with propaganda.

@@thelastnormalgenz6578 Armed border conflict with India? They fought with FISTS and CLUBS!!! Hongkong is part of their country, of course it will fight those who wants to separate it. You do know what happened when the south seceeded from the union during the civil war, right? 620,000 died, about 2% of the population. Methinks the chinese handled it A LOT BETTER. About Taiwan, it was all quiet until the americans disturbed the status quo by supplying taiwan with arms and weapons. The americans actually went against their one-china policy of recognizing only China as the rightful government.
