How does the Xiaomi 13T's camera perform? Does GCam help? Find out in this Xiaomi 13T Camera Comparison (GCam vs Leica)!
The Xiaomi 13T camera system is pretty good for its midrange price and it comes with a very usable 2x telephoto this year. It also has a number of Leica features that adjust the color tuning and other settings of the app. Unfortunately, its ultra wide camera is pretty weak though. It can shoot up to 4K video at 30fps and stabilization is very good, but not great. Even Xiaomi 13T GCam takes advantage of the excellent stabilization from the main rear camera.
There are some downsides discovered in this Xiaomi 13T Camera Test. Mainly the 13T's selfie camera--it's not great for photos and, depending on how much light there is in the scene, GCam might not offer much improvement. Also, its selfie video is capped at 1080p.
GCam forMi version from BSG can help turn things around though! In terms of the Xiaomi 13T GCam vs Leica cam the BSG GCam port really helps deliver a much warmer and more saturated look. 13T GCam also improves the selfie camera substantially in some conditions.

Thanks I think I might use gcam just for the x2 zoom on every lens, that way I end up with a quick x4 (x2 on 50mm lens) when needed instead of having to slide that cluncky wheel on the xiaomi app, it's not precise and takes too long.

Thanks Matt! Nope. Viewfinder was snappy, but with HDR + enhanced active, there is extra processing that you'll have to wait on after you hit the shutter.

I chose the 13T because of the Leica authentic coloring. I had enough of this "punchy colors". "contrasty looks" of android phone cameras. I just want true to life, at least close to it.

Thank you much! Since I have a small lag problem recording 4k 30fps with stock cam, i give a shot with the gcam and the lag problem doesn't appear! This is great! Just a not. I've discovered that recording with the tele allows to push it until 60fps! Of course, with tele you don't have the ios stabilization since it's with the main camera only.

For sure! Usually when I do my testing, there are few if any config files available, but as more users/developers get the S24 series they will make .xml's available and GCam's performance will absolutely improve.

Hello Dani! Just click the link in the video description choose the file to download and then you can install from your browser or file manager but you'll probably have to grant permission to allow the install. From there GCam should launch.

Hello! The 13T does use a Mediatek processor (that works very well), but the GCam port I used wasn't specifically designed for Mediatek powered devices.

there are lots of versions and additional config files and profiles, only with certain profiles I get very good and sharp results. some other profiles produces bad results. so be careful to choose the right ones. I use AGC9.1.24_v11_samsung with noise file and profiles from AGC9.1v11_v34 and then loading And! activating! profile sharp.agc, but problem is only with one lense that has pink bar at the bottom. I hope for further versions @@phonecomp

GCam is the pre installed Google Camera app that ships with Google Pixel phones. Some developers adapt the app for use on other phones. Yes, the samples from the video were shot in the 13T.

Yes! BUT it depends on the GCam port and your phones hardware/software limitations.

@@phonecomp was searching for it's performance tbh) Do you know if it gives real 4k 60 fps good quality with stab etc. like from the box or it's just for numbers? Cuz almost all phones I was lookin in this price range give shaking and other things which make them unusable... (Realme 13 Pro+, Iqoo Neo 9, Realme GT Neo 5 and even Pixel 7 in some reviews)

I've tested the Pixel 7's video and I don't remember stabilization being an issue. But yes, stabilization can be turned off completely when switching to 4k 60 on most likely all new phones in that price range.

Hello Hilmie! I'm not sure, but the 8200 Ultra processor does support 4K 60. I'm guessing it's possible for GCam ports to enable that, but we might have to wait for a compatible XML

Hello Atomhuzat! Yes, definitely. Auto HDR on stock did not activate as often as I thought it would, sometimes that was appropriate . . . but usually not (at least from my testing).

Thanks Christabel! Sorry you're having trouble. The first thing I would try to do is clear GCam's cache and data by long pressing the GCam app icon (on your home screen or in app drawer) then hitting the "i" in the menu that pops up. I'm trying to remember without looking at the 13T since I no longer have it for testing, so hopefully that's correct. Good video. I wouldn't buy a Chinese phone. I know I will see weird internet connections being made without using the phone. Can you do this with the zenfone 9, 10, 11 coming out soon and the budget xperia 10’s (last three released all interest me) I have the 10 v. Kinda slow but it's a 2 day battery tho. Also you have an email. I have a video of someone doing a sick camera review between two phones. He only did it once and never again. If would be dope if you can review like that. You'll explode too

You know you can run programs to detect internet signals being sent and received to check that? You're not correct about this, and it would cause a major diplomatic situation if it was found out to be true. China doesn't need to spy on you with hardware. They already have everyone's information from the software they have control over.

Hello Lemondiy! There are downsides to GCam, and I don't use it exclusively on almost any phone I test, but I think it's valuable as a free app that lets you get that aggressive saturated look without the over sharpening from some stock apps HDR modes. Of course, that look isn't for everyone! Totally understand!

Technically the 8200 Ultra supports 4K 60, but Xiaomi might have limited it for a few reasons. I should have tried with Filmic Pro. You could try with Open Camera or MotionCam?

Hello Mali Dan! I should expand my photo critique vocabulary, I'm getting tired of saying the same stuff too! There are definitely devices that don't benefit much (if at all) from GCam. Plus, not all GCam ports are worth using, particularly without config files. Usually though, Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco device's camera performance generally improves with GCam. Sometimes it comes down to a certain "look" that I prefer. I like saturated punchy images, and GCam helps deliver that on the 13T. There are definitely downsides like the additional lag when shooting HDR+ Enhanced and typically GCam is going to miss more shots than most stock cams (particularly without tuning via an XML file). These GCam comparisons demonstrate that your not stuck with the look from your stock app, which means you can do more with your device for free--which I really like!

@@phonecomp Defo bud half or the oneliners used in the photo's didn't even apply. I didn't see anything worth installing Gcam to have to mess about with 2 camera apps, especially when you modified Gcam and not the stock camera app.😉 You are much better off mastering the stock app then messing about with buggy software made by Sammy singleton. Gcam has never improved any camera on any device I have owned, the colour profile here is miles off my Pixel 8 pro and 7 pro.

Flagelo said "just decrease it in the settings," which is possible. I tested at the extremes of what GCam can offer to provide a contrast between the two apps. You can definitely get a much more restrained look from many GCam ports. Or even shoot in RAW.
