On today's episode I test the new Dual Band 5W Xiaomi Mijia walkie talkie 2, we do a full review and then test all 3 radios between each other and out in the field, we also throw in the Retevis RT5 and the Zastone M7 with some really surprising results.
If you want to know how to use this radio on FRS,PMR446 or GMRS radio frequencies then you must watch my other Xiaomi videos as I don't want to go over things I have done already, skip through my uploads as there may be other content that might help you.

Mine doesn't work. My keys are locked and only one works. I don't know what to do, they just got blocked, although you can still talk, but I can't modify or change anything in them. what can I do?

Thank you for sharing your results. I like the RT5 however both of mine have an issue where inadvertently pushing down on the battery will open the contacts and shut off / restart the radio. This happens sometimes when I'm hiking and talking at the same time. I hope to find a fix soon. Cheers

Thanks, yes the battery doesn't fit well on mine either, a good firm push though normally does the trick, the RT5 is what car guys would call a sleeper ha ha

good day sir! I have a problem, I brought MI Walkie talkie 2 just like yours. the problem is our group frequency is using 148.200 which is the max frequency is only 148.00000? I tried to use the PTT+

Noob question here as I haven't used a walkie talkie in over a decade. 1) There no issue using this four talkies for a family of four? 2) Does the firmware update via wifi or possible a physical connection to a PC? Thanks in advance!

hi, great review ❤ I have installed mi ptt+, how can i install correct firmware for my hardware version. i dont know which firmware should i updte. i would be really happy to use custom unlocked firmware but it seems dangerous in some hardware versions. some people stuck on update page while flashing.

Thanks well the ailunce HD1 is bigger but not by much, it's only really big compared to the most popular radio the UV5R

Hey Knoxieman, thanks for this review, seriously impressive stuff. Not doing it by halves! I'm completely new to walkie talkies and getting one for my 4 y-o girl, principally so I can talk to her while riding the cargo bike when she's on the back within the rain shelter. But would be awesome to give some to her mates around the neighbourhood. Furthest mate location is 2km, dense suburbia, no hi-rise, but a small hill. Looks like any of the Xiaomis will fit the bill, but curious which model, for the price, you would get? Cheers and thanks again for the great work!

The Xiaomi are fun radios but for value you really can't beat a UV5R, you would need to program them on to FRS or PMR frequencies, there are loads to choose from though, I've plenty of videos on the channel, best of luck.

Hello Knoxie thank you for your review I really like it. I have a question. I play airsoft and I use baofeng radios to communicate with my team. Can this Xiaomi radio talk with Baofeng radios? I tried to make some research but doesn't come to a clear answer. If they work together maybe a video about that as well? Thank you and more power

I don't know if you're aware if this or not, but the Nagoya antenna with blue lettering is a fake. The ones with silver letters is genuine.

Yes many are now USB powered, lots of newer versions of the UV5R come with a desktop charger that's USB powered

Hi @knoxieman any idea if it's possible to connect and PTT button (wired or BT) and using the radio trough a BT headset? I'm trying to find a solution for using walkie-talkies on motorcycles but without a lot of luck. The main issue is the absence of a decent PTT solution, I can connect my helmet BT headset but with gloves then becomes almost impossible to use the radio own PTT.

@@albert6051 nope :( I've tried everything with this radio and other baofeng, I bought adapters and BT devices and in the best case I got a terrible audio quality with a 2-3s transmission delay from the moment you push the button... I've abandoned the idea, I think it's possible but only with very expensive Motorola radios with integrated BT

Hi there, I am a new viewer to your channel and found it really informative. I have been considering the Xiomi's new Model for the following: Type c(so no extra charging dock), Bluetooth, sleek. I fly drones and often need communication in 2 km or less of range in urban environment. I would like to buy three radios and will be open to suggestions, since my knowledge is quite limited in the subject. I am based out of Singapore.

Many thanks, it is a nice radio however it is limited a little and quite expensive, 2km in a heavily built up area is quite tough going, I would go for an inexpensive UV5R and fit a Nagoya antenna to it as it will significantly increase your range.

No you need the hacked version if you want to program out of band

Do I have to use the app every time I want to adjust the 446 Frequency OR do I have to flash it only once and then I can choose any frequency of the 446 without the app?

You have to program each one and save them, you can just type them in on the phone though

Hi no it doesn't transmit on 142 mhz it starts at 144 MHz only, you can program it for 142 MHz using the modified ptt app and it will look like it's transmitting but it's not, it also does not receive below 144Mhz.

Disappointed with the m-7, it looks like a really nice radio. Shame the Xiaomi ships with a terrible antenna and doesn’t hold many channels.

Well nothing if you don't need it, if you just want to chat with the same radios use say 66, this is also a common code used with other PMR radios which will mean you can chat with other users.
