Today, I am going to tell you about a case of a Xiaomi Redmi 8 that suffered considerable moisture damage. Often people underestimate the damage that water can do to our devices. Today, we're going to explore one that was sadly beyond repair.
The moment a device gets wet, the first step is to disconnect the battery to prevent any further damage, but in this case, that wasn't done in time. And although in most cases we manage to save about 80% of the affected devices, there are cases where the cost of repair exceeds the value of the device due to the price of the necessary replacement parts.

We remove the screws with our efficient electric screwdriver, and then we dedicate ourselves to freeing the motherboard from the frame of the device. In our work, an initial visual inspection is crucial to determine the focus of the repair. In this case, the corrosion damage to the motherboard was severe. We decided to remove all metal shields to get a better view of the damage.
To remove these metal shields safely, we apply approximately 400°C with maximum airflow, without using the nozzle. In this way, we distribute the temperature more evenly, avoiding overheating of the motherboard.
Under the microscope, we could see the full extent of the damage to this Redmi 8. The motherboard was severely affected by moisture, a clear indication that water and electricity do not mix well. And despite our best intentions, sometimes the device can't be saved.
We tried cleaning it to see if it showed any signs of life, but corrosion had ruined most of the electronics, rendering it virtually beyond repair. In cases like this, when the CPU and memory are damaged internally, the information stored on the device can be lost forever.
