He did a lot at first but he didn’t deserved her at the end, he neglected her and even cheated on her and just till the end when she was dying he went to say that they can start over again and that he only loves her. Pff the only thing that I’ve learned about this serie is that you can’t trust men 😪

What gets me about these harems and such, is the one they truly love they never recognize til they are gone. By then its too late and when they realize the errors/mistakes sorry is all they have to give. Sorry doesnt help with the pain, heartache, betrayal, lies and coldness that was given when one gives a promise. I hate liars...

You are right, except for 1 fact - it doesn’t only happen in harems or the old kingdom. It’s happening now even that some people don’t appreciate their spouses/partners till it’s too late. In Ruyi’s royal love of the palace, the emperor too realised the goodness of his ex empress (he put her through countless suffering) and in the end she refused to reconcile, and died. He spent the rest of his long life missing her with great regret.

@@meimei1919 You are so right. But then they get mad when the spouse doesnt accept the apologies. Its like after what they went through why would they forgive you after one apology. Once trust is broken its never the same again.

What I don't understand is why the women stay with them. Love is about respect, communication, treasuring the other, help each other. Why forgive cheating again and again. I'm sure if is the women that do the cheating they wouldn't be forgiven ever. Why bear bad mistreatment in the name of love? I really don't get it. That is not healthy. That type of "love" is fantasy, to love others it doesn't matter if they cheat on you, humiliate you, even rape you, and wait and wait for a change of personality or whatever, that is the "perfect" love. You see that in lots of dramas and novels, a woman is romantically a martyr. In my opinion, that thinking is insane.

Shout out to the comments for letting me know the story's gonna break my heart and the male lead is a liar so the entire point of monogamy in the first few eps of this show isn't worth it. I'm gonna go watch something dumb and happy.

this scene still makes me mad. She was surrounded by ungrateful and unfilial people. The only people who truly cared for her were her parents and siblings. No wonder the Sui dynasty was short lived. Genera Dugu must've been rolling in his grave at the outcome of his daughters.

Saaame. I like historical/period dramas because the costumes and landscapes and the prettiness of it all attracts me but Lord I _hate_ the harem concept and I'm SO glad I saw the comments on this before I chose to watch this show and break my own heart.

I think when you’re an emperor, it’s inevitable you’d have a harem of beautiful and younger women all the time. So it’s easy to forget the promise of fidelity. It’s also impossible to know or experience love. Lust yes. For the women, it would be impossible to know love too, when you had no choice of husband or had the chance to fall in love with him first. It was only a constant task of vying for the emperor’s attention and favouritism, and when he has hundreds of women in his harem, you’d be lucky to spend some nights with him. You’d only get to be flavour of the week, not month.

Is it just me or does anyone find it humorous that many comments on here are complaining about the husband making the vow to love only her but he ends up sleeping with others. Well, here’s something to think about. He DID keep the promise actually. He said he would only LOVE his wife. Having sex with someone doesn’t mean you love them. Plenty of people, both men and women have sex with someone and feel nothing for them. Sex and love are not always the same thing for people.

Nah, the king is weak and act as ancient king at the end..cldn't resist the temptation of the women though they have sworn to never betray each other, to remain faithful, for the king not to take another wives, though the queen has done everything to ensure his reign in the throne ...so yes, the sons, sister-in laws even sisters may each have hurt her, the king also has his fault and wronged her..despite they love each other
