It would have been interesting to see kitty actually trying to learn Korean, understand the culture, face the pros and cons that comes with it. Instead, we have the hottest people in the school trying to score her for no reason at all besides the fact that she is the main character. This is basically just a American rom com series, but in Korea. It really does feel like a koreaboo's fantasy to me.

As someone who has been to one of those international schools in Korea (not in Seoul though, but I’ve seen those ones too), there is nooo way in hell all of these fantasies are true. I laughed the whole time because of how wrong the series was on portraying korea. Also, no one dresses like Yuri in Korea (yes, not one person except foreigners). The dresses and the clothes were just too American for being set in SK. Also, the dorms are just one room for two ppl to use.. LMAO no way they gave a whole ass apartment to those kids smh..

The fact that Yuri is not mean but was heartbroken by her own mom was the most Asian thing, to be honest. NO................like YURI was frikin cute. And I WAS annoyed with Kitty as well as Madison, She straight up added Korean words in between her own language. And yes, THE WAY KITTY SAYS "MEAN HOE", gurl.....

i can kinda get behind Kitty doing so bad on the tests because she was used to being the smartest and was so overly confident that she didn't even stop to think like "OH, maybe things are different here and i need to put in more effort than i did back home" cause she didn't even bothered to learn 3 words in korean. also, korean students mostly spend at LEAST 12 hours a day studying and this show represents korean schools so badly 😭

nah this show bothered me so much from the constant lack of communication that continuously led to multiple misunderstandings, but most of all, the way they portrayed the Korean society and the female lead’s lack of social understanding. I studied at Yonsei last fall and I’ll tell ya right now, my entire dorm room (shared w another girl) was half the size of their bedroom alone in the show, and not that many ppl actually speak English fluently unless you go to a cafe where all the drink orders are technically English but just written in Hangul. plus w the way this girl acts everyone and their mother would be glaring and judging this American girl for how she is behaving in a foreign country 💀

I thought it was so weird that yuris family was speaking english in their own home?? Like your native language is korean and when you are annoyed or angry you default to it but you dont speak it in your own home to your parents🤨

As a Korean myself, I feel the koreaboo vibes a little bit in certain parts but I would rather not label the show that way. Kitty does have korean blood. Dae, Minho, and Yuri are all korean. This is the first piece of media where the spoken korean wasn’t absolute bull crap. Cough marvel do better. There’s a long way to go. But I appreciated XO Kitty and I thought it was way better than what I was dreading. Even if Kitty is white washed, it wasn’t really by her choice and I absolutely respect her desire to explore her roots and learn about it. There’s nothing that disappoints me more than a Korean that has fully accepted their white washing and makes no effort to learn more about Korea beyond Squid Game, BTS, and Gangnam style

I feel the show very much isn’t like Emily in Paris in the sense of Kitty not learning Korean as Kitty very much thinks she doesn’t need to since she has friends that speak it perfectly. Plus they do point out to her that show does need to work on her Korean with her not understanding conversations that are happening in front of her. Even in the first scene when she gets to Korea, no one is willing to help her with the amount of people who can’t speak English and aren’t able to help her. I feel in season 2 she will learn Korean as this season was only a semester so learning a language in 4-5 months very much can’t make you fluent in a Korean. With Emily in Paris, Emily has no real attachment to France and to learn French other than it’s for her job while XO Kitty has Kitty wanting to learn about her heritage and what her mom learned at KISS so very much she would want to learn Korean. I think if the episodes were longer than 30 minutes, they probably could have fit in a whole plot of Kitty learning Korean but since we don’t have that extra time, they probably will save that for season 2. But I believe since they have 8 native speaking Korean actors in the show as either main or supporting characters, I believe they thought of having Kitty learning Korean lol
