Alibow did it! After making the fiberglass Yarha as their first Manchu bow, now they released the Xongkoro, a laminated manchu bow. Incredible smooth to draw, almost missing manchu kick. Just an amazing bow! My shooting is just bad due to an injury...
One of my patrons will get this bow :)

Xongkuro This is the name of a raptor. It lives in Manchuria. It is a divine eagle respected by the Manchu people. At the same time, it is also called haidongqing by the Han people. This kind of Raptor is now on the verge of extinction in China.

If you wonder about the three-part-string... That was the traditional Manchu string. The two long loops are tied through small loops in the ends of the "actual string"... They are tied with a special knot, so it is easy to replace them when they are worn too much... Originally the long loop were made of a number of threads, to make a fittingly thick line, which then were "tightly twisted", and then fully covered by a serving, partly to stop it from un-twisting before it is tied on, and partly to take the wear and tear... The "strongly twisted line" can be stretched "a bit more, for a split second", when the string ends tight, "after the shot" much like a very strong rubber band would... That will reduce the shock-wave in the bow, ... And that is rather important, with the long and relatively heavy ends of a Manchu Bow. Both loops and the "actual string between the loops" were made of hemp or silk, BUT the "actual string" was not twisted, before it was fully served, so it could hardly stretch at all... Most antique Manchu bows had that kind of three-part-string... If you wish the historical correct look of traditional Manchu Bows, a three-part-string "is a must"... OR a two-part-string, with only one flexible loop, as some Manchus used that... The two protruding ends from the knot have an additional function! They help stop the vibrations in the string... That is mainly important when hunting, so the prey do not hear the bow "sing"... In other regions the string was a long part, which could not stretch, made of hemp or lin, and then a short part, which could stretch, and that was made of leather or sinew... Being thicker than the long string, to be strong enough... While in some other nations the entire string was made of sinew... The disadvantages are: It is heavier, so it is surely not a "fast flight string"... And it will stretch so much in moist weather, so the length needed to be adjusted... Using modern materials like Dyneema, strings can be made thinner and lighter, and still "hardly stretch at all"... Being stronger compared to the weight, than silk or hemp or lin, or normal polyester, (aka dacron) it would be called a "Fast Flight String"... Alibow use Dyneema that for all their strings... But the long loops on the three-part-string from Ali Bow is "normal polyester or nylon line", being a braided line, so that can stretch a bit, "when the string suddenly end being taught, after the shock"... Not only reducing the hand-shock you can feel, but actually making the bow last longer... But in contrast to the three-part-string which Alibow makes for the Xongkoro (and others, on demand) today, then originally the KNOT on Manchu strings always rested on the string bridges... That which most now would call "the old-fashioned polyester AKA dacron bow strings", like the B55 from BCY will actually stretch a bit for a split second, when the string ends tight, giving same effect as the original three-part-strings... In Europe most Longbow archers still use "dacron" strings, as they feel fewer vibrations in the bow, when using that... The modern version of a three-part-string would be using dyneema (or spectra) for the long string, and then use dacron, tightly twisted, and then fully served, for the loops... OR make the loops of normal polyester or nylon braided line, like Alibow does, and then fully serve it, to look original. Happy shooting Dan

You wish long draw bows? If you have long arms and broad shoulders, and wish to shoot with the "Manchurian long draw", you might wish to order a 40" draw Long Yarha from Ali Bow. I persuaded Ali to try build a custom version with that draw length for me. He was not sure, it was possible, but now it is on its way from China to Denmark. :) I can hardly wait to try it out. I payed 200$ for that custom version, with birch bark instead of leather cover. But the longest bamboo arrow shafts I could find were 1 meter, so I needed to extend them with a wooden piece, on the rear end, glued on with a "V splice"... In the rear end, because the forces acting on that are smaller than on the front end.

Looking at the size of both this and the Yarha, I assumed they were used by footsoldiers. But a little reading-up on Manchu bows indicated they were used by horsemen. That's a big damn' bow to be shooting from a horse. On the other hand, a bow that throws very heavy arrows, even at the comparatively moderate speeds the Manchu bows achieve, is going to hit like a Mack truck when it connects.

You need to be two people to string this bow. I have never managed to do that in my life 😂 It's a beautiful bow. And I agree, whipping would be a good idea. Considering that decorative layer Alibow puts on their bows. Some whipping would give me a better sense of security.

I don't find Alibow to be that bad when it comes to shipping. For the 3 bows I've gotten from them, they each took about 2 1/2 months. I'd say that's quite good. Some bowyers take 4+. I really wanna get a Yarha when I have the funds. This bow looks amazing, great review.

I ordered a similar bow from the 'other' Chinese bow maker - it sucked. When they made it they coated the string grooves with varnish. Every time I tried to string the bow the varnish was so slick the string popped out. I had to take round files and clean out the string grooves. When I finally was able to string it the limbs warped irreparably - in opposite directions. It now sits in a corner waiting a trip to the garbage dump.

Hello Armin Ustath (Teacher) i've set my mind and willing to get a Simsek bow, i still didn't get a Reply from Simsek, What's the Minimum GPP Would you recommend on the Simsek without Damaging the Bow on the long-run, i have 400spine 3DHV Arrows, the total arrow weight with everything is 302Grains, if i were to use it with a 55 pound Simsek, would that be okay? it would be 5.4 GPP and it's 400 spine but a very light arrow, i would appreciate your help on this one, and thanks in advance!

Perhaps you mean the string popped of when you shot? If so the problem might be too light-weight arrows. They should be at last 15 grains per pound, which is about 1 gram per pound. OR it is because you twist the bow, when shooting. Hold the handle softly, "like holding an egg", to avoid that. If you actually mean the string pops out from the slots, when drawing the string back, it seems the slots have a "wrong direction". While I can hardly believe Alibow would make such a mistake, you could correct it with a small "rat tail file"... Buying such a file will be cheaper than to send the bow to China, and it would fix that problem, in a few minutes... Well worth it, on such an expensive bow.
