2003, we converted a 1997 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle. Developing our RequirementsStatement, we preferred a rear entry for the visual openness. (A side entry feels tight because I immediately physically sense the opposite wall.) . Instead of stairs, I built grips above the axle, using the existing structure-- the tire -- as the 'ladder'. . Nearly two decades full-time live-aboard, our rig is constantly evolving.

It is a really cool concept. I'm 6'4" 250lbs. I was thinking how I would have issues sleeping and showering. Then you mentioned it. Cant wait to see your adventures though!

I have #23 V1. Great fun to see your walk through. I suggest using kerosene for your appliances instead of diesel. Kerosene will burn much cleaner and help prevent soot buildup. Ours has become more reliable after switching. Sad to hear about the company's troubles. We are the lucky few to own such a great design. Each of the few that were produced are in a way prototypes and have differences. They each have their own little bugs to work out as any low production hand built item has. I hope you will enjoy your camper as much as we do.

Good to hear from you. Thanks for the tip on the appliances. We have only filled the tank once so we are glad you told us about using kerosene so soon into our purchase of the V2. I will make the switch before our next trip. We are also sad about the company. They have such awesome designs! We were definitely lucky to get ours. I think we were the last camper completed. Thanks for watching. Todd and Lori.

A really thorough walk through - good stuff. I just measured the single bed on our V2; it is 85" x 21". In a space 7'1" long it's more likely to be the width, or size of your feet that will limit comfort. If you need a longer double bed than standard it is an option. I'm glad Marc specified your roof pockets with clear windows - that was my recommendation after we had them in our V1. Your diesel tank location is also an improvement over earlier V2s. Have you discovered sitting top/tail in bed leaning against the wall? - good for reading. Also we find that the ability to convert the dinette into a chaise longue or sofa is great when one person wants to sleep and the other wants to read/work/watch movies. We're looking forward to the winter - an XPCamper makes an excellent mobile ski chalet :-) Gavin (XPCamper Europe)

Lots of great tips. It is great to hear from someone who has a V2. We really love the concept and design of the V2 so it is very sad that we found out yesterday that the company is in foreclosure and being sold at auction on August 19, 2019. I think we may have been the last camper delivered. Maybe somebody will buy the company and start production again. Thanks for watching. Todd and Lori

If you do a search for the camper your walk though was the first hit to come up! You are now famous. Can you tell me what brand the stove is, I have looked at some kerosene, diesel cook stoves but they are all bigger.

Can’t believe I’m the first person to comment, but that’s a really neat camper you have customised for yourself. I like how it’s a fully contained setup. Inc a shower. How do you disconnect the camper? Can you do that when camping and then drive your truck to town etc. ??

Very informative video! I would be interested to hear about how you decided to purchase a v2 camper. Were there any other campers that you were considering?
@TheGillsExpeditionChannel
@TheGillsExpeditionChannel 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We considered many other campers on the market. As we narrowed down our search it came down to the earth cruiser GZL, Four Wheel Camper Grandby Flatbed, and XP. The main factor to go with XP was that it was a full hard side camper. After traveling in a RTT for many months we wanted to get away from tent material. Thanks for watching. Todd and Lori.

Is there room for Alex? After your earlier video expressing your disappointment when you first went out there, I researched XP and found that the company had applied for a sizable state loan. Apparently they didn’t get it or got it and were not fiscally responsible. You two were pretty lucky to get your camper before this happened. There are so many cases of parties losing lots of money in these situations. Your videos are very informative, we would have never found/considered Dinosaur National Park if it weren’t for your trip logs. Wish you guys the best and looking forward to more videos.

Yes, there is room for Alec but he is very busy with college and does not have much time for travel. We consider ourselves very lucky since we picked up the camper from them in early June and they went out of business the same month. I am glad you found Dinosaur National Park because we think it is a hidden treasure. Thanks for watching. Todd and Lori.

It's nice but using truck for just a flatbed i just don't agree with that you're losing the truck bed and that's what I would absolutely hate there's way to many other options in my opinion that's why it's a bad idea 💡 for most Americans 🇺🇸

I understand what you are saying. I flat bed truck is not for everyone. I did not get the option, but the maker of my flat bed offers a tailgate and side option to make it into a standard bed when the camper is not on. Thanks for watching. Todd and Lori
