Got this tablet december 2019, and I think it's really really great. Had some firmware issues but the support solved for me (there's a video on my channel for this). The only Cintiq I worked for about 6 months was a 13" back in 2010. To be honest, this 22R is like 1000 light years superior to that old Cintiq. The glass gap (parallax), the colors (hugely better), less cables, product quality overall. Of course, I never used the newer Cintiq Pros that are indeed superior. But for this price, I think this is the deal. Thank God for competition. Now Wacom is feeling the loss of territory and is showing new Cintiqs with "affordable" prices. But even so, Huion and XP Pen (not to mention other brands) are offering equal or superior products in comparison to those new entry level Cintiqs.

@@hmm8104 Hi! About a month ago, I was using the tablet and the pen was failing. I tested everything. Another computer, other drivers, the spare pen, and even a test software they sent me. In the end, XP Pen support told me it's a hardware problem, and I'm out of warranty. Their "solution": choose another tablet and we can make a discount for you. So I can say that this tablet endured less than 3 years for me. And unfortunatelly I can't recommend. I'll post a video soon showing the problem.

@@OldenburgRs Thank you! Please consider including some recommendations for a similar price! (its currently on sale for 440€, for halloween sale it was around 460€) I am by no means a professional artist but would, of course, prefer something more durable (4/5y) and preferably around 16" (13" at least). I hope Im not asking for too much, considering the budget 😅 Also I wouldnt mind an android tablet if you know anything about that! Thank you for the in depth video about the xp pen 22r to a technical level! I had my eye on the xp pen 22R for a while now and I have been quite impressed by what it has to offer (for the discounted holiday sale price of $490) But buying the display would be as far as a blind choice to make because most reviewers don't go as in depth about their tablet experiences Thankfully you're the blessing from above, and probably the only best place to find these kind of videos about drawing displays, and I'm probably gonna lay my hands off the xp pen for the meantime now that I know that the blacks on this ips display are really ain't great, which is resulting in a washed out image, and I wouldn't have known that if it wasn't for you inspecting that for us! I'm trying to upgrade from my 22hd that has died off just so suddenly, and not having deep blacks is not going to cut it for me. Still, this is stil some great tech if you get it for the discounted $490! Far way better tech you could get with the 22hd, which if I were to buy the xp pen 22r, it would still be an upgrade! But unfortunately, not the upgrade I'm looking for if I'm willing to make the investment which for me is going to be long term. Contrast ratio is important for me. Thank you so much!

@@ExtraDan If you are trained in using a classic tablet, then all one needs is a reliable monitor (Eizo colorEdge, even the CS series, or a NEC PA or Spectraview, or a _way_ cheaper, yet with much better specs than any of these drawing tablets, BenQ SW240 PhotoVue, For example. Eizo if don't want surprises. Any of these blow out of the water all the display-tablets, including the Cintiq, in color accuracy and image quality/reliability (well, can't say for sure about the Benq)) , and any classic tablet of good prestige like the XP-Pen Deco 03, Deco Pro, or the Huion Inspiroy medium size, any of these classic tablets, always ensuring the pen is battery-free, and one is set. You might find the issue with worse sensitivity in pressure, issues so for light sketching and subtle painting daubs, so...In that case, maybe the Intuos Medium NON pro. But I don't need it so much, meaning I know how to adapt, I prefer the alternatives in that case. Or just jump into the wonderful Wacom Intuos Pro L. In that scenario I've been 11 years training with an intuos XL (before with a intuos 1, and only 'cause certain work colleague did hit it badly), and to be honest, is not like at this point I feel like I need a display-tablet, so I can focus in pro monitor purchases every many years, as those last a lot, specially the pro ones, they survive many PC towers upgrades, and those classic drawing tablets are about 80 - 100 bucks only. WAY easier to improvise than a 2k cintiq purchase. This is why I've been recommending everyone and their dog to get used to the classic ones... as from worse to good, is easier to transition, always. Been at companies where there were only intuos to be used... The folk used to Cintiqs only, used to have probs there (I've used both). As in such stressed environments is complicated to fast achieve a non trained habit. I'm just expressing a very personal opinion. A lot of people just can't stand classics, while they are extremely good pros. I'm just saying, one can save a lot of money and headaches, so.... The irony of the thing is that the best pen tech possible, the newest Wacom pen, and an amazing tablet surface, you get it with a 500$ Wacom Intuos Pro L. And an Eizo or NEC for the best monitor. You can get some Eizos for around 600 - 700 bucks first hand, yet being coloredge (CS). Best monitor possible. Overall, cheaper than a WAY, way inferior screen as the Cintiq non pro is.... Even if would be my fav choice among Wacom and the two alternatives. Even more, if the tablet breaks, u still have an amazing monitor. If the monitor breaks, u still have the tablet. OFC, if having already a pro monitor, is just 100$ if the Cintiq broke. But the Intuos Medium, imo too small.. the good thing of the alternative brands at that selling price and size, is that those medium sizes are quite bigger in active area than Wacom Medium's. Or 500 -600 (as total expense) if wanna go amazing level with a Wacom L. I kindda also paint in a better pose than when I had my Cintiq... IMO, sth that costs 2k$ is not easy to be replaced fast, when it breaks and lives u under the rain... I've heard quite some cases... it kindda is less "sustainable", over time, a so expensive device. One of the reasons why I prefer Wacom lately, too, durability, specially to not get interrupted in the middle of 3 gigs. When hearing some stories from friends/colleagues using the new brands, it makes me value more the 11 years endurance of this Intuos 4. And well, I've had lots of brands... But the Wacom ones (intuos 1, intuos 4 small, intuos 4 XL, and a graphire) are the ones surviving after decades, for some reason... Again, this is just a random opinion of mine... take it as a shout to the void. Hopefully some younger artist trying to decide if breaking the bank or not, will read it. As people, specially teenagers, are obsessed with display-tablets, as if there was no other option to become a pro artist. Heck, I achieved my best level with oils, pencils, charcoals and acrylics, back in the day.
@ExtraDan
@ExtraDan 4 жыл бұрын
Omg unfortunately I'm not going to read through the entire text that you have written, but I have over 15 years of experience using various different brands tablets and many Wacom devices. From my experience I have learned probably the hardest way that Wacom should be avoid of and does not belong in the proffesional environment nor can justify the word premium. Wacom are build very cheap and offer "budget hardware" for a premium price as they take adventage of the monopoly that they created. I could rant for non stop about all the things that make Wacom absolute garbage like their quality build, design and not to mention god awful software and unforgiving costumer neglecting costumer service. Not many big brands are invested in making dispaly tablets that you can use with your personal computer, what makes companies like Wacom look anything that is considered "high end", but any company could easily blow Wacom out of the water with a snap of a finger if they ever took the step to invest in graphic tablets. Ha, not even the display panels Wacom uses alone doesn't justify proffesional use! Every other "budget" brand (which after a long term research, I find xp pen easily comparable (unfortunately only at their 1080p state because they don't have any 4k displays yet) I would actually consider the XP Pen 22R the more proffesional and premium buy over the Cintiq 22Hd pro whatever, and the updated XP Pen 15.6 over wacom's smaller tablets. Better display, quality build, function and more. But! I have yet to use an XP Pen and experience the software myself, which is still in question, but wacom's software is already abysmal so either XP PEN has a better software or a software that is just as bad. XP pen is a cheap company, but so is Wacom. If anything, the I would choose xp pen as my premium graphic display over the Wacom one, even if the XP PEN costed more than what Wacom asks for their products.
@ExtraDan
@ExtraDan 4 жыл бұрын
would choose a Wacom tablet over the other brands (actually as much as I don't like Huion, their current tablets look really cool, not their displays though) But unfortunately sometimes having a screen display is necessary, for example I do 3D work so the screen comes in handy. I actually don't think any of wacom's devices are durable at all, neither that they have the best technology, other companies have a much better technology like Apple, but they refuse to make display tablets for the personal computer. In my opinion, wacom's technology is really out of date and they only retouch it just a bit every few years, just a bit! But thank you for sharing your opinion, I'm glad your setup works for you! It's an excellent way to work professionally if you can just rely on using a tablet and a screen separately!

Got this from xmas sale for 499 euro. I’m used to my 32” Cintiq at work, but needed a display tablet at home, but will never have the 2000-3000 needed for that. This feels quite good, the pressure issue is really noticeable compared to Wacom, but got used to it pretty quick. The one cable thing did nothing to me as I have a mid 2012 mbp, so I needed both VGA and HDMI plus the usb-c to usb cable 😑 and that causes a little but of a lag when drawing. Really like the adjustable stand and the whole product is a step up from the previous model. At this price I’m pleased with it.

This isn't a fair statement. Up until recently Wacom was the only real option for drawing tablets now that there are serious contenders it's impossible to review any tablet without comparing them to Wacom they're the standard. Also Xp-pen has clearly positioned itself as a budget tablet line pointing out that it's inferior completely misses the point. The tablet gives you 90% of the experience of a Cintiq 22 at half the price (in my case I purchased the 22e pro so it's at a third of the price) and in addition offers extra features and equipment that you have to pay extra for with Wacom tablets.

@@mobiletechreview Hello. In every review you make about this kind of tablets, I notice that you set a 7k or 8100K color temperature setting... Can I ask why ? Is it not super cold? Shouldn't it be 6500k, ie, the ideal point for photography (although some say that a bit warmer, 5400K is better for print, but for my painting, 6500K seems to not introduce distortions). I even use bulbs with that color temperature, 6500k (often called "day light" or "neutral" bulbs). I'm super intrigued about the matter, maybe it's something I don't know...
@3polygons
@3polygons 4 жыл бұрын
Oh, and for what is worth... the issues that raise from the color calibration tests... how the contrast ratio ends up, the black levels, etc... That is too bad for those of us who work with this (painting) professionally, imo. I'd rather go with the 1k$ "trimmed down" Cintiq. Is not like going for 2k $ + of the Pro anymore, that was less of a sensible purchase (when a Wacom L or a XP-Pen Deco 03 / Pro + a reliable monitor do the job, really). Also, I would (very) slightly disagree in that a 99% sRGB can't be used for print work. For professional photography works, definitely not... for painting, printed illustrations (pro level, I mean).... what you need is accuracy in everything (color, gamma, panel uniformity, angles, it not being a TN, etc). If a super intense green (lasers, neons, etc) wont show up, a) Play with contrast in your illustration, as is all a game of color/values relations, b) have your pro monitor of reference in the side or front, it's always a good idea, anyway. Is going to be kind of rare, unless you are constantly working in sci fi futuristic illustration, and even so : We've printed tons of illustrations on the matter, and as CMYK is actually pretty similar in range to sRGB, not that big of a deal. Yep, if you work in Adobe RGB, and finally convert to CMYK (I know, some RIPs today to a great conversion there directly from your RGB files) you will get a richer result. But is not like will be a crazy difference or that you wont be able to do commissions work. Those tones are accurate, even if you are not reaching that super intense green/aqua, or magenta nebulae tones of a galaxy you are painting, so, for very specific cases, more the like to show up in special close-up fruit ads photos for top magazines, or other high end photo lab stuff. With this in consideration, the new "cheapo" Cintiq is a better option than the other two alternatives. It hurts me to say so, as I've been an advocate of XP-Pen (still am) and for some products, even Huion, for long time. But is not the first review I see doing these tests, and there are things that are a real obstacle for serious illustration.

I was looking for my first display tablet and I almost bought this for sale for around 500 bucks when there weren't any proper reviews (RossDraws' review doesn't count), but coming from an intuos 3, I had already taken a liking for Wacom and the reviews for other XPPen products didn't convince me enough. Ross' review also sounded too infomercial-y and I couldn't trust a company that obviously paid a reviewer for a glowing review. In the end, I cancelled my order before they could ship it and I bought a cintiq 16 instead which I'm loving so far. Seeing this review made me even happier with my decision since I have a very light touch and I'd get stressed out with having to deal with the pressure sensitivity of the XP Pen.

I don't get this: Why is it that a product aimed for artists painting/drawing/editing is compromising on color accuracy and color gamut? Why is normal gaming monitors getting better panels in those regards? I mean, I want good colors there too, but it seems like a screen for something like this should have colors at the forefront of the product, right? How are you supposed to know what you paint, if you don't get accurate feedback on what you actually paint? It also looks like it came out in early 2000's....

Finally a reviewer who use Corel Painter to test pen tilt support. This is the most important to me; Wacom tablets/montitors work ok, but Huin ones tilt don't work with Corel Painter for Mac (it does ok on Windows). Other software works well (Paintstorm Studio, Photoshop, even Rebelle 3). So... Pen tilt works right with this Huion pen monitor using Corel Painter on Mac? Take into account that some Corel Painter brushes need to be switched to 'Bearing' in Angle Expression; for example the default Palette knive. I will really appreciate if you can confirm this, so i can know XP Pen drivers work well; for this reason i don't plan to buy an Huion or XP-Pen... until they work with Corel Painter. I don't care about azimuth jumps (pen 'inclination'), only to Angle.

Out of curiosity have you had the chance to play with a intuos pro? Currently between this one ( artist 22r pro) and the intuos pro large. I ordered the intuos pro at first and couldn't cancel it, it came today and seems pretty nice. Truthfully thought was going to be worse not looking at what was doing, initially was going to take back and get the cintiq 16 if I didn't like it. Ended up getting this one for right under 500$. Thinking this is probably the best deal considering the price and how much I can do with it long term wise, I have been learning 3d modeling and sculpting and maybe do so some animation an draw here and there was figuring down the road after I've gotten better to get a 4k pen display.

It wasn't until the month after I completed my degree, which was based entirely on handskills, that my alma mater began its computer graphics department. Nine years later, when I had my first computer, I bought the first cross-platform version, Adobe Photoshop 2.0 for Windows. I went on to other things, including Corel's Painter 10, used with a Wacom tablet, but that was for my own projects. I never did get into graphic design and illustration and continued my career as a draftsman/CAD technician, using Autocad and SketchUp, until my career went down the toilet in 2008, after 31 years. I've been retired since 2014 and I spend my time doing abstract fine art street photography. I've been a photographer since 1971.

Gerardo Amador why? I played around with a bunch of these. I agree that the Cintiq isn’t that much better as the price suggests, but if it’s your job, and their track record shows that these things last a long time. My old Cintiq Companion Hybrid still works at my friends studio who I sold it to, and that’s like 6 years old now? I regret selling it, so I bought a “Mobile” studio pro. It’s pricey, but works great. Swords independently from a computer and when I need more power I just plug it into a computer. Not really portable though, that’s more my iPad. If you gonna buy a tablet every year these xp pen and Huion tablets seem great, but long term, I’ve had a lot better time with Wacom stuff. I see people with 10 year old Cintiqs not caring to upgrade and do great work

@@sloppynyuszi agreed. Wacom is very great and quality which sorts of justify the price...? Tho its very confusing as the products series overlapping in terms of naming and to choose which one suits you. Hopefully they'll release new mobile studio n the current ones will drop in price...

My intuos 3 from 2009 is still serving me well with little issues. Wacom provides a quality product that lasts FOR DECADES. One studio I worked in were still using age old WHITE WACOMS from the early 2000s. And they're STILL WORKING. It's insane how hardy wacom products are. I'd rather have wacom than any other brand not because of brand loyalty but because of how reliable it is.

@@SpiderMan-ni8ek I still have an intuos, yes, it works well. But I really needed a display pen. I was about to buy a Cintiq, I borrowed one from a friend and yes, it was amazing. But a week before I went for it, I tested one of the other brands and realized that yes, they have more parallax, but in no way is intrusive. I bought the "off brand" and my friend who has the Cintiq said "I can actually use this, and I wish my job gave us at least one of these". For me in particular, I don't need the extra quality for twice the price. Specially because I'm not a professional artist or designer. Maybe niche or professional designers need it, but not everyone does and at our level, the extra price is not worth it at all.

@@mikearisbrocken8507 I do need that quality/accuracy (you can't seriously work with those black levels and contrast ratio... ) . It's my work. I'm not super niche... just a pro illustrator. But I realize how a tablet like this is totally fine for students and hobbyists. Anyway, the needed accuracy, I have it with my monitor. I also use a Wacom intuos 4, since 2009, too. Yup, Wacom makes durable stuff...

I bought the 12” version on October, the drivers were better than Huion's but the screen scratched too easily, I was treating it with so much care after the first scratch but by December I had a huge "patch" of scratches, then on the last few days on the month the colors went crazy, all looked green and purple, so I stopped using it. From my experience only I can't recommend the brand.

It's likely the matte screen protector that's scratching. Remove it and perhaps see if you can get a replacement (unless you prefer it glossy).

@@mobiletechreview It's worldwide out of stock.. if you buy they let you knot it will take a month or two to get new units. Some websites have the info and some don't. They probably underestimated how much their marketing woul influence end of year sales.

@@Isaacminer1 exactly. If you look at wacom products, the direct competitor for this specific product is at "only" 1200$ give or take. If you don't want to pay as much, I guess you could go for an android tablet, but you won't have access to PC software. If you go for a surface pro, or a cintiq companion (or whatever it's called these days) you'll have to spend a lot more than 700. Also, why would you want a 22 inches tablet to not be hooked to a PC? it's not like its a portable format anyways.
