The art school I went to had Wacom reps come through on a regular basis. Back in 2017 I had an XP Pen Artist 10S with me when they were showing off their new, expensive tech, and I showed them the XP Pen tablet and asked them why they wouldn't make a screen tablet in the $200 range that the Artist 10S is in. Apparently it's because the build quality is terrible at the price range and that there seemed to be little interest in reusing their older tech to create new budget tablets. I was assured the tablet wouldn't last more than 2 years. It's lasted 3 years. Thank god Wacom's EMR patent expired. They're rightfully getting forced to compete in a market rather than running a monopoly.
@FloMoonYeah
@FloMoonYeah 3 жыл бұрын
When they say it's gonna last 2 years. It's based on the worst case user scenario, someone who treats it as if it was some toy. That's why wacom tablet were so sturdy and solid. I say "were", cause I feel it's less true these days.
@redandblack641
@redandblack641 3 жыл бұрын
@@FloMoonYeah That tablet survived a 20 MPH crash when I was riding a bike on black ice, and it's still fine. The tablet itself is sturdy, but the pen that came with it was flimsy and fell apart after a year of heavy use. Bought a replacement and noticed they used better materials at the same price, and it's going strong after 2 years. XP Pen seems to be the only Wacom competitor that's trying to improve durability.

Great video Trent :) I used a wacom tablet for both my school time and the first 3 years of work in the industry. Last year I wanted to switch to a screen and stumbled on XP-Pen and the low money bar for the 16” made it an easy decision, and it's awesome, drawing a lot faster now and making fewer mistakes, only thing is the small size/resolution, I am use to my 32” 4k with full overview of all my layers, brushes and color wheel. I can only see 4 layers at a time on the 16” with just my secelect brush, so after a year of getting used to drawing on a screen I wanted to upgrade and glad to hear the 24 is great, hope it goes on sale for black friday.

I used to have a cintiq 24HD and a Bosto 22HD (I had to leave them both behind when I had to flee my country last year), and I was only able to get an XP Pen 15.6" Pro and was afraid of it's quality due to the low price but honestly even though the size is too small for me it is a really great product and brand, is not a Ferrari but I wouldn't put is as a Honda, it does feels more like a brand new Camaro or at least a Mustang, I'm looking forward buying a 22" or 24" from XP-Pen at some point in the future. I do have a problem with the 15.6" though, when I work at a zoom of less than 50% to see more of the page the strokes are super jaggy, it doesn't seem to happen at 25% but at 33/35% it seem to have the problem, I thought it was only on Clip Studio but it also happens on Paint Storm Studio.

I bought one of these on their anniversary sale and had to return it. The display wasn't working with the USB-C cable (only started functioning with USB + HDMI), and after restarting my PC the pen/tablet functionality stopped working from there onward - it was just a very heavy and expensive monitor. There was also a pretty noticeable scratch on the screen out of the box too which was a shame. Thankfully, their support was really good and after some troubleshooting gave me a refund and even covered the postage costs to send back to them. I might try one again from them in the future but i'm sticking to intuos3 and ipad pro for now :)

I bought my Artist 24 Pro about two months ago and hooked it up to my iMAC 27, i5, 2020. I ordered it from the manufacturer; it arrived from China in about 2+ weeks. It was in transit then customs in LA and then finally delivered. The packaging was intact and the unit also. Not a scratch, nothing missing including the xtra glove which I ordered but was never was charged for it, thank you XP-Pen. It booted up, installed the drivers (use the KZfaq installation instructions) and it's been working fine ever since. Even though I have Adobe programs, Blender, etc..., I chose ArtRage with my bundle and it's the only program I've used thus yet. I'm closing in to my retirement age and I plan to spend many hours using this setup. There's no doubt in my mind that my Apple teamed up with my XP-Pen are a quality match for me to enjoy for many years to come. I enjoy technology as I worked all my life in this field and I am amazed by the performance of the Artist 24 Pro. I use Apple's Magic Track 2 and Magic mouse together with the programmable keys and wheels without a glitch. The drivers are up to speed with Apple's current Catalina iOS as of Oct. 2020. Thank you XP-Pen for such a wonderful product and customer support.

Even a 16 inch will feel a lot better space wise. I used to use the surface pro and one downgrade you will experience is the surface has zero paralax where as these screens have a little. Also you cant zoom with your fingers but the wheels help with that. It took me a while to adjust after the surface but overall the monitors are better in my opinion because you can use a PC with a nice graphics card and the space is sooo nice.
@tahaesat5404
@tahaesat5404 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Trent, I'm glad to hear your honest opinion about this tablet as I was looking to buy one. About the parallax bit, I get what you're saying but it doesn't mean the offset of the pen and cursor, it means the gap between the drawing surface and the actual screen underneath. Something like the Wacom cintiq 22 would have a wider gap between, whereas this particular one has way less gap (parallax).
@PhantomGanhdi
@PhantomGanhdi 3 жыл бұрын
You’re missing two big points. First, you’re wrong about parallax to a degree. Parallax DOES mean the offset of the pen to a point; it is the byproduct of parallax/the screen having space between the drawing surface. What is Parallax? It is the gap between the drawing surface & screen. Okay, why tf does that matter lol? Because it causes the physical pen you’re holding & the digital cursor to be offset. These newer tablets are getting rid of parallax so that the screens can be closer & so that the cursor offset will be gone. That’s the key, parallax (the screen having a gap) causes the pen cursor to be offset. So now going back to Trent saying he’s never experienced Parallax & then saying that he likes the pen cursor to be offset from the actual pen so he can see the drawing surface; he is unknowingly or knowingly creating his own parallax/the side effect that parallax has which is cursor offset. Screens with parallax are irrelevant if you for instance are using a mouse because you aren’t drawing directly on top of the screen. It’s only relevant when you’re using a pen digitizer because then you’ll see the cursor offset that it is causing as a byproduct of the screen having a gap.

Hi there, watched a lot, and i mean a lot of comparison videos wacom to XP Pen,. I was aiming for a 32 Wacom Pro . It a shitload of dollarlalas. I am not a prof artist, just loving 3D and a friend of using the best tools i can get my hands on. Sure, sometimes way over the top to pay so much for simply a hobby. When i started to play drums, i bought a Roland TD50 eventhough i had no idea how to play. That kinda guy is what i am. But you got me thinking of making an exception this time and give XP a try. Worst is some 800 bucks down the drain, right? Ok, just wanted you to know that it was you who tipped the scale in favor of the XP because your review is honest and in the right words. Just the right mix between making me laugh and shoveling the important facts over the table. Ah, and BTW.... I love the drawing you did through the video. Always make me jealous seeing so much talent where i have none ;) Would love to build that in 3D. What do you think? Walking around in your creation has a nice ring to me. Sure, will take some time, but hey, i am a software developer. For that species nothing is impossible and there are no problems, only challenges ... Cheers and all the Best form Germany

Excellent point on parallax in general and how it can be easily dealt with: I'm always amazed at how this aspect of a drawing display is overblown by so many people.
@D2Kprime
@D2Kprime 3 жыл бұрын
It's not at all overblown, nor is it an excellent-point. Calibration is "supposed" to fix parallax-issues. Unfortunately, in some tablets no matter how much calibrating you do, you *cannot* fix that issue. Also, some people don't want the cursor dragging behind the lines. It's okay if some people like it that way just like it's okay if some people like to eat food that's not good for them. Please don't act like parallax is a phantom-issue or it is "useful" for most.

Who still have your XP-Pen pentab for more than 3 years or so? I read a lot of reviews on it (display or none) and their pen is kind of not durable for a year or two, the tablet seems solid but I read a lot of complain about the pen. I know for sure Huion brands were not as durable as XP-Pen because I have two for a couple of years and here I am finding another drawing tablet and I am sure enough right now choosing XP-Pen because of durability but Wacom is very expensive. I already bought the XP-Pen Deco Pro but as I mentioned on my concern (and on many reviews on amazon) the pen is broken and I return and get my refund. I hope people who have experience with the brand can give me a hint or two. Great video by the way. I hope lots of artist and reviewer will be honest and not afraid to say things from user perspective just because a company send you a product to review. Many of them just read the already specs/claim of the given product not the actual performance it may be an opinion or not. Thanks Trent!

I have been using an xppen 15.6 pro for a year and a half non stop and so far the pen works as new, I had to replace the first nib since it was scratching the protective cover on the display but found out that removing the protective layer was better for me, so far I haven't changed nibs again even though sometimes I do press hard, but I'm not worried about the pen and they sell replacement pens anyway and are worth half of those from wacom so you wouldn't need to buy a new tablet every time your pen dies.

The stand is awesome to be honest but after more than a year with my 22 PRO i started having problems with the connections on the back be cause as you change the position of the stand (angle) it started a "material fatigue" problem with the connections on the back where now sometimes it disconnects and all the cables are plugged in, connection comes back after I move a little the connections so now I had to add a cable holder stuck with glue and use a "cable tie" (zip tie) on the back. If I ever buy another one I'll do my cable holder with glue thingy right away or try not to change the angle of the stand. Also I recommend to change the tips more often than normal to avoid scratches on the protecting film which has no replacement from XP-PEN.

I appreciate your content. Curious if you have had any experience with the Xencelabs products. Specially the 24” 4k pen display? I’m currently in school for my BSA in computer animation and character design and they gave us the xencelabs tablets but I prefer a pen display. I currently work on my iPad Pro but would like more real estate for larger works. I’m debating between that and the cintique but I’m really liking the build quality and the dual pen setup that comes with the xencelab tools. That would than give me 4 pens. lol almost one for each finger of my drawing hand. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

i've found that i enjoy drawing on both pen tablets and pen displays. they are both fun to draw on. i might actually give the edge to pen tablets because you don't have to look at your hand when you draw and you can sit up straight looking directly ahead. plus the resolution of a pen tablet is unlimited. it is only limited by what your computer can pump out. but i wouldn't buy a really cheap pen tablet. i tried one and it kinda sucked

While I am not Trent, I would highly recommend picking up a world-building program like Wonderdraw or Campaign Cartographer. Humble Bundle often has sales on these or you can find other programs for free on the Internet. Characters are shaped by the world they live in and vice versa, so envisioning and knowing that world would be beneficent in rounding out your characters.

@pai pai My problem is that I have to swap between straight lines (nib) and curved lines (right mouse click). The straight lines are no problem, the right click (on the little button of the pen) will "click" when I only hover over the surface and after several curved lines it erases everything. That is annoying when you have done quite a bit of work ad it is all wasted. I now do everything in straight lines and then change the nodes to curves, asd required, afterwards.That is extra work and I have tried just about every setting - no luck. I have not tried to take the pen apart and adjust the setting on the inside. Every idea would be appreciated. I deal with it but it could be better.

MY XP-PEN NIGHTMARE: Just because i you asked i wanna say that i had a horrible experience with XP-Pen. I was super excited to get the 16" a few years back my first display ever. But when it arrived i had a lot of issues, first with the drivers and second with the actual screen connecting to my PC. it never did and i always had a bunch of connection issues. XP-pen would only answer at like 3 am? and after countless days of losing sleep and talking to customer service, they just told me, lol! we're sorry but u live in Mexico and we don't honour our warranty there, EVEN THO I bought it here?! so if you want us to give you your money back send it in the mail. And I had to pay out of my own pocket the shipping to the USA in UPS cause I kept explaining to the dude like, hey, mail-in Mexico is not like mail in the US, I know people send money over the mail there, here i leave the display in my post office and it will 99.99% be stolen. Either by a worker, a driver, customs... the display would not make it. (like i know this isn't their fault but i am still pretty mad that they didn't like offer to help or anything cause even if i sent it on regular mail I WAS EXPECTED TO PAY FOR IT) So yeah i ended up loosing over like 3K pesos, that's about 150USD because of the shipping alone and i was so put off by international customer service that i swore off the brand. But i heard pretty good things if you're USA based... so idk :(

Greetings & Hello - Happy Holidays to you. I understand this is a 2-year-old video now though I am really hoping I could get some answers. I personally have the Innovator16 - its my first drawing display from xppen [ used huion drawing tablet with no screen before ] and been using it for the last couple years. Its slowly giving me some glitchy issues [ which xppen has confirm its likely was a default tablet but I am past my 18 months warr ] - I am itching to upgrade to a larger screen with the xppen deal they have right now and looking at the 22R Pro or the 24 Pro - which by looking pretty much the same just the different size. My question[s] is : Do you still think this info holds up now being its 2 year later ? I personally just would want it for a larger screen setup - it doesnt need to be portable since I dont do stuff on the go or away from my desk. I worry that since the Inn16 did come out after these, it may be a downgrade however since they were all out within the same year it shouldnt be that much of a difference but compared to now with others display that came out like Huion's display having better colors - there is just so many info with this is better because of that or that is better because of this and I am just a bit in the middle on what would be the best. Any info and advice you may have would be awesome !

@xxEasyRiderxx 3 жыл бұрын
Smoothing option (if available in your program) is really the only way to get rid of that. If you're making fast strokes, it's not a problem, but the pens are so sensitive that they will pick up every jolt if you're trying to do a long slow line. I keep mine at about 20-40% when I'm inking. Otherwise you'll have to paint smaller line arcs.

 @Eric Summers That's Right. A good solution actually. I've tried the native smoothing and Lazy Nezumi for a short period of time (with catch up option enabled). Still feels a little unnatural because of the brush tip delay:( Hope you know what I mean. The actual end of the line follows kinda late after the physical pen tip. Thank you anyway.
