This is a key technology, excellent! Would prefer to see unedited shots from start to finish: the different angles and jumps do not show the actual landing nor confirm that this landing corresponds to the earlier deployment.
@cokimi13017 ай бұрын
very nicely edited so you dont really see how hard that landing is.. It looks like it is still going at a pretty fast speed though.

Maybe do an airbag on the bottom as well to further cushion the landing.

No big deal. 5.2 meters/second is within the 5.5m/s / 18ft/s limit for emergency parachutes.

Progress needs to be celebrated. Good luck with safety from under 30m. I am thinknig air bags and crumple zones are part of the engineering options for below 30m.

The test needs to be considered with the vehicle at its maximum speed. To see if the strings will break.

This is a controlled test and it is done as safe altitude and no movement and no wind.

Show the landing. Even if it is "fast", anyone purchasing one of these things knows it's still infinitely better than no parachutes at all.

This looks suspicious. Why did you cut away so much? Why not show the moment of landing? Is it that bad? There are times when it's better to not show something, than show something not fully done and ruin the first impression.

It's marketing, they only have to show the good parts. All manufacturers are perfect in their own right.

Also the vehicle is not moving forward to allow balance deployment of the parachute? Either way the hover parachute test is still good.

At least, they had thought of those 4 parachutes. I believe they will innovate with something better later. Normal helicopters have nothing like those parachutes, isnt that much better?

I believe it needs counter explosions at the bottom when the power shoot is ejected from the top it pushes the vehicle down.

Touchdown speed: 5.2 meters per second = 18.72 kilometers per hour = 11.6321 miles per hour
@NightHawkNH-26 ай бұрын
That is actually a little slower descent speed than a paratrooper using the old T-10 parachute at 22-24 feet per second. Not bad at all, particularly if the seats/skids/suspension have any shock absorption at all, which I am certain they do.
@zlm0016 ай бұрын
I’m a little suspicious of the speed they published, but overall it looked like a positive result even if the impact was at a higher speed. I guess the parachutes are designed to instantaneously deploy anytime enough motors fail so they don’t have to test it after free fall. If they could get enough of a crumple zone underneath it could cover off critical injuries below the minimum parachute deployment altitude. I also think the results would change a lot with the weight of one or two people. I don’t think I’d ever take something like this above 10 feet anyways.
@hughjassstudios96885 ай бұрын
Equivalent free fall height of 1.38m or 54inches or 4' 6". You'd better be reclined for that or you'll be hurting

I don't understand why they put out a video that went wrong! This vehicle is still not safe!
@Lightning---K.Ай бұрын
In 10 meters height there is no help from parachutes in case of an engine failure .. free fall speed ---> 10meters / second ... that crash will cause severe injuries ! The vehicle here in this video reached 50 meters height and spent almost half of the height for parachute opening and recovery. Crashspeed had 5,2 meters / second .... which also was NOT shown ! ( cut out sequence minute 0:13 !!! )

Why stop the propellers? I don't get it. (see Autogyro)
@hOZish77 ай бұрын
I'm not sure you'd build up enough momentum in the props to be able to create much lift. Especially with this height and speed combo. It might also be that in a situation like this it's likely something is wrong with one of the motors, props, or motor controllers so you wouldn't be able to control one of your corners, limiting how much slowing you'd be able to achieve without tipping over.
@Telencephelon7 ай бұрын
@@hOZish7 Nope. This is not how physics works. The answer is simple though and obvious.. They had to test the worst case scenario and the forces applied to feed back into simulations. The worst case scenario would be that there are no propellers

Why would the parachute deployment be manual?
@in4merATP7 ай бұрын
@@akk9196 Who said it would be manual? Catastrophic failure of some portion of the airframe is not impossible, nor outside interference of some kind. Assuming that the planform will be oriented vertically with no roll, pitch or yaw is fine for evaluation of a prototype in a test flight, but next you iterate on establishing and/or improving the performance envelope based on plausible scenarios likely to be encountered in normal operations.

@TaskSwitcherify7 ай бұрын
You've got a problem. If only 1 rotor / motor fails, the vehicle will no longer be balanced -- there will be uncontrollable sideways (or random) motion, possibly shredding the parachute. And it may not be safe to crash-land while rotors are still spinning and there are people or cars underneath. You'd have to kill the power to all motors to prevent that, it would seem.
@zasanafesenov81197 ай бұрын
Rotors just stop when power is cut. Maybe all motors shut down when parachute deploys.
@TaskSwitcherify7 ай бұрын
@@zasanafesenov8119 Yes, but there may be any number of malfunctions resulting in a fall, such as control system failure, individual motor malfunction, etc. - so one or more rotors could stop spinning or spin erratically. Is it safe to deploy the parachute then?
