Before buying a Tesla 2 years ago my neighbor test drove about 20 different Chinese EVs. He liked the xPeng but said it has many strange software behaviors and bugs, and thought it was designed by people that don’t even have a driver’s license. As he is a software developer I told him that those problems will be fixed later and he said:”But when? There are things that require a complete rewrite. If they were easy to fix they would have done it already.”

The automatic unlocking should only be activated after the key fob leaves the car's range. It does not make much sense, in my opinion, to automatically unlock a car with the key fob in range when it was intentionally locked a few seconds ago.

My Ionia 5 also pops a warning to put your hands on the wheel. The frequency at which it does it varies, I think, based on the vehicle speed. So, some distance, and perhaps only if the car has to manage curves which would notice, turning the wheel, that there is no driver resistance to it. The warning, though, is not annoying. Displays a badge on screen but no annoying ding. Not sure if you ignore it, what kind of escalation it does, though.

i still love the P7, and the wing version is great, but I do think they really fucked themselves over by waiting 2 years to release it outside of china. 80kw charging speed is uncompetitive, its a thirsty boi, and the bing bongs in the software are the reason why when importing a vehicle to a new market (both into china and out of china) you should hire a local firm for localisation as I can guarantee you no one from the western world saw those bongs change drive modes and was like "yes, that's what we need"

I wonder if significantly lower range than M3 LR in similar conditions has to do with cabin heating? You did say it's tuned differently but what if the Celsius shows is indeed how hot it goes but is unable to disparse it in cabin properly? I don't know much about Xpeng but if we could see separate data how much climate consumed, it could help answering that. Other than that, I love the design and the attempt at good UX/UI. Some downsides, sure, but it's doors like these and slick design that will allow it to become publicly seen as "premium brand". For example. if I compare it to new Genesis - Genesis has every spec that can make it envy worthy, even design is fine but it's ordinary enough looking/behaving that it will not be perceived on the same level Tesla is seen - but this Xpeng is striking, it will make the brand appear more premium. Those thinking M3 is ordinary looking, you're right but Tesla brand is established in hearts of youth already. Dings and Bongs - I hope they provide option to turn them off. I am already annoyed with them in my Tesla Model 3 - I don't want anything worse than that. As an example, Tesla will always keep turning on lane departure warning and sound a loud alarm when you touch the line slightly at high speeds. Renault does Dings and Bongs much better as a comparison.
@MartinzW
@MartinzW Жыл бұрын
@@Psi-Storm my point is about how it is delivered. Heat is heat but if you pass outside air over a hot block of metal, you'll get colder air in cabin than pushing it through hot metal fins that allow better heat transfer. It's a simplified example, not saying that's the cause but design of heating system can very much lead to higher consumption to reach same temperature in cabin. This could be ruled out by testing the consumption of climate control.
@bjornnyland
@bjornnyland Жыл бұрын
No. The higher consumption is *not* because of heater. Quick math: If the consumption is 50 Wh/km higher because of heating, then it equals to: 50 Wh/km * 90 km/h = 4.5 kW of heater power That's way too much. Try to sit in an EV that blasts >5 kW of heater power constantly and you will have a sauna there.
@MartinzW
@MartinzW Жыл бұрын
@@bjornnyland Fair enough. Design of the heater system could still have inefficiencies that can cause higher consumption. I see unreasonably large cabin heat number in video and I see that this car has potentially much worse consumption than Chinese version two years ago. An obvious variable is temperature hence testing for it makes sense rather than assuming it can't possibly be that. Of course it could also be other systems but it's harder to test them from user level.
@MartinzW
@MartinzW Жыл бұрын
@@bjornnyland I looked more into your data and press releases by XPeng. The other big differences from your old Chinese version test to Gullwing version, besides the door are: It comes with XPILOT3.0 by default which includes: - 31 autonomous driving sensors; - 12 ultrasonic sensors; - 10 autonomous driving high-sensitivity cameras and sub-systems; - 5 high-precision millimeter wave radars; - 4 autonomous driving surround-view cameras. Also: Dynaudio sound system with 18 loudspeakers. Motor appears to be unchanged and has equipped German Infineon 950 IGBT module. I found no info if it has changed over the past two years but English info was limited. The coefficient drag from press releases remains the same: 0.236 cW. The Gullwing version does appear to be slightly heavier but I don't get the impression it's meaningful difference for such contrast in consumption. And of course, outside temperature. Given all above, if you still have Xpeng, please see if you can figure out where so much extra consumption comes from by testing what you can. Would be interesting to find out. I don't think XPILOT system consumes so much but hey, we've seen Renault prototype an EV with a giant rig for AI in backseat.
