ARB Single or Twin Air Compressor? Which one do you need for your setup? Do you need an air tank, should I mount the compressor, or buy a portable unit? In this video we cover all the differences, specifications and test these two units.
I cover all aspects from price, air flow, duty cycles, features and them put them to the speed test pumping up one of my 305/65 18 AT tyres. How quickly do these compressors pump up off-road 4WD tyres?
Air compressors really are one of those essential pieces of equipment that every 4WD’er, caravaner, tourer or remote traveller NEED to have in their kit. I highly recommend buying a reputable brand of compressor for your travels, to avoid unnecessary issues.
I hope you enjoyed today video and I hope this provided you with the information you need to make that informed decision about which compressor best suits your needs.
If you have any questions about these units, about my setup or anything 4WD or caravan, don’t hesitate to contact us through Facebook or Instagram and we will do what we can to assist.

Top vid Nathan. I got an ARB twin set up in my 200 without the tank. Same place in the rear. Got the portable ARB twin also. Mounted wins hands down every time. Portable is heavy to move around and takes up too much room. Great compressors. You need reliability and piece of mind when out in the bush. 👍👍👍

This is a very good review. Just facts. No filler. And articulated clearly. Really well done. A review of the dual compressor portable carry case was missing due to the gentleman’s impressive on board set up. But being ARB, I’m sure it’s adequate. Perhaps the first 300mm of the fill hose could be insulated with heat tape to preserve its integrity?

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed this video. Adding some insulated heat tape could potentially increase the life of hoses when exposed to heat and it would interesting to hear from anyone that may have done this. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the other content. Cheers, Nathan.

Hey Nathan, great comparison video. I’ve been watching your videos and find the information really valuable. Sorry that I am commenting on a 3yr old video but I was hoping you might be able to shed some light on your switch wiring. I’m about to install a compressor and like how you have wired the pneumatic switches to activate the compressor to inflate then have the main switch to turn the compressor on and off. Could you provide me some more detail on how you have had this wired up? Cheers, Nic

Thank you for making the video. Based on the vid, CKMA12 is what I need--I have 33'' tires on 20'' wheels and do not go lower than 15-18 PSI, so the single should get me up to 30-35 PSI with no issues. But seems retailers are under impression that this one is for lockers and that I need the twin version. 🤷‍♂

Well done great installation in the 200 series with the bracket all tucked away. Not the cheapest but you get ride of the extra box and heavy external compressor. My installation goes in this week. Please allow me a commence before someone starts complain about the compressor hooked up to the Aux deep cycle battery in the front drawing to much power from the battery. Yep, the twin compressor will draw appr 70+ amps instead single 35 amps, require larger size cable which assumingely installed to your set up in the rear and while you pump multiple tires for longer period it would be advisable to press the battery link button to link the starter battery with the Aux battery for support if you have it installed. Cheers

Nice video,it helps a lot! I was wondering if the portable arb compressor could be run on a motorcycle battery. I would like to have one for my offroad rides, what do you think? Motorcycle batteries seem a lot smaller than truck batteries, do you think the compressor would deliver the same output? Thanks in advance and again great video!
@XploringOz
@XploringOz 3 жыл бұрын
Glad the video was helpful. So I can’t accurately comment on the motorbike situation. I guess it would depend on the amperage being put back into the battery by the alternator, but my initial feeling is that it would work. I think that the small tyres on the motorbike and the short run time of the compressor shouldn’t place the battery under excessive stress.

Cool video. It seems the 4 litre tank is a waste of money considering the negligible advantages it gives. I do agree with you though, ive had my tool box arb compressor for nearly 8 years. And it hasnt skipped a beat. I feel the arb twin coupled with an indeflate device would be the best most efficient way to go about it as it can do two tyres at once. Can you purchase an indeflate and test it lol. Cool video i like ur informative style. Subscribed.

Thanks mate 👍 appreciate the comments. Haha, maybe I’ll get an Indeflate down the track, if I do, I’ll be sure to chuck a video up 👍 I guess the tank really only helps with air tools and the initial burst of air when inflating. For me, it fits well in that rear space.
@olliehopnoodle4628
@olliehopnoodle4628 2 жыл бұрын
The advantage to an air tank for airing up is the compressor continues to operate as you move between tires. So if it takes you, say, 20 seconds to disconnect, put the cap on, get to the next tire, take that cap off and then connect the hose the tank will save you about a minute of air up time moving 3 times from tire to tire. Also, the initial tire fill will be much faster with the tank already at 150psi. And you can run air tools...

Cheers mate! I didn't install the compressor myself in this case. It was done by Ultimate 4WD Equipment, however I couldn't imagine it would be too difficult. @XploringOz

I've done a full run down on the drawers systems themselves and there's a little more detail there - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jc2XrLJ3s67In4k.html I designed how I wanted them lay out on the drawer system, Custom Installations created them and Ultimate 4WD Equipment fitted all the electrical components.

I was looking at the twin compressor and mounting in the rear but as my wiring to the rear came direct from my deep cycle battery it was to great of a amp draw for the battery and I would have to connect to the start battery

They do draw a bit of power. Are you worried about the long term effect on drawing a large load from a deep cycle?
@kisbushcraftdownunder
@kisbushcraftdownunder 4 жыл бұрын
@@XploringOz I didn't do any shortcuts in the wiring I used 10mm twin sheath the bare cable just fits in the 50 amp Anderson plugs so no voltage drop It was ARB who said it was a bad idea to load a deep cycle up with that amp draw with the engine running my DC to Dc is putting out 25 amps into the deep cycle I can't see a problem to air up my 265 65 17inch tyres should only take ten minutes

KIS Bush Craft Downunder Sounds like a good solution to me. Given that we generally only use this power draw for a short time, it would very unlikely the starter battery would ever run down with the engine running.

Good video. How do you manage condensation in the tank all tucked up in there? I had the single mounted in the engine bay of a Prado and now 200, and it does take a while to get all corners back up. It is a robust little unit though. Agree, without a tank, air gun is useless.
@XploringOz
@XploringOz 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I agree the single cylinder is a great little unit and I used it for years pumping up the 33" muddies on my GU patrol with no issue, but the speed and power behind the twin is awesome. In relation to the condensation, I have noticed there is no drain tap on the ARB tank, so regardless of whether it is mounted in this location or elsewhere, the plumbing would have to be removed to be drained. Further, I really haven't had much of an issue with condensation in the past, given the amount that it is used in my application. I think it would take years of general 4WD'ing and camping to create an issue with condensation and then it would have to be removed to drain. If you were using it in a commercial or industrial application, I would suspect a different tank, or easier way to drain the fluid would have to be installed. Thanks, Nathan.
@zacandmillie
@zacandmillie 4 жыл бұрын
@@XploringOz Just on that point of condensation, I used to drive Unimogs in the army and one of our daily First Parade tasks was to drain the condensation from the air tanks. Admittedly they were for the air brakes but it is surprising how much moisture accumulates daily. Perhaps this is something after-market suppliers need to consider: a bleed valve.
