It is nice to see the whole process end to end for this maintenance task. Thanks for taking the effort to lay it out for us. One thing I would like to hear more from you about is how you check the bearings / bushes / linkages once they are cleaned. I for one would like to see you talk us through what you look for, how you decide when they need replacing and what it is you look for while doing it. Since you are doing the back end of the bike then hearing about how you asses whether the chain/sprockets need changing, how you set the chain adjustment for off road use and even what to check on the tyres (damage / wear / dry rot on old tyres etc) would be most appreciated. I appreciate you have already done a lot of this already, but if you are doing it on anther bike or even plan this for next year then it is the type of content many of us would love to see to help us with our own techniques.

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely keep that in mind. I will be posting a video on me doing the fork oil change on that bike so I’ll try to include some more inspection input.

Last year I serviced the rear linkage on my XR650L and once I was finished and cleaning up I found 2 needle bearings after they fell out of the cleaning rag I had been using. Well...the job took a little less time pulling everything apart figuring out which bearing they came out of. I won't make that mistake again.

Dang…good thing that it’s really not so bad taking the linkage apart. When you do it enough it’s a quick job.

Put some studs in those tires and lets ride!

its very tempting...plus the fact that everything is frozen means it wont get muddy and i wont have to go nuts cleaning it in the cold lol

Hello 🖐. Your channel very similar to mine ! Even in the “about section description “ . Only difference is you speak better than me . Love he bike collection you have , great work . What footpegs you using ? 😀
@Garage2Trail2 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank you! I appreciate the compliment! I hate speaking on camera but it’s kinda a necessity in some places lol. I’m running the wide foot pegs from xrsonly.com. Stay tuned for the other bikes on the channel down the road. I’ll be sure to check out your page too!

Did you not have to use the special sockets x2 before able to remove the swingarm...didnt show???? cheers
@Garage2Trail2 жыл бұрын
No I only removed the pivot bolt. That notched tool isn’t required for just the bolt and nut.

Thanks! May I ask where you purchased your service stand?

Thanks for watching! It’s a harbor freight high lift motorcycle jack. Works great. Just have to add flat block of wood since most dirt bikes are a bit too small to fit between the two lift forks.

Hello, nice quality and clear video,, how offen do you recommend that maintenance?
@Garage2Trail2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do mine once a year while I’m not riding during winter months. Also depends on how much water and mud you ride in. I’ve stuck to that formula on my 98 XR400 since ‘99 and have never had to replace bushings or bearings to this day. I’ve had this 650R for a few years now and do the same.

This is a great vid. I keep coming back. I wish I could figure out the lift model number at Harbor Freight. Also, have you tried a high ouput stator, Lectron carb amd Rekluese clutch. I am thinking about major enhancement rather than sinking $ into a KTM 690. Thoughts? Cheers
@Garage2Trail5 ай бұрын
Thanks Scott! I’ll try to find the model lift. My brother actually picked it up for me originally. Funny you mentioned the stator because mine is barely working to power the headlight which just started happening recently. The tail light still works but nothing up front. I’ll be picking one up soon probably and be sure to watch for that video! Haven’t considered a carb or clutch for it. After uncorking and rejetting, it’s crisp.

Is there a bushing on top of the monoshock that csn go bad? I am getting a clunk sound after catching air. Thanks and nice vid! Nice looking bike!
@Garage2Trail7 ай бұрын
Yes there is a bushing with roller bearings there. Thanks for tuning in and the compliment!

Hey mate, Excellent job there, and that XR is very tidy! I wanted to know what kind of bike hoist you have? It almost looks like a modified engine hoist? I'd appreciate you or anyone else helping me out, makes jobs like this one all the easier!
@Garage2Trail Жыл бұрын
Thanks! That’s a harbor freight motorcycle lift. I just had to put a block of wood in the center cause it’s a bit wide for a dirt bike.

Some commentary on what you're doing and why, would have been gteat,instead of the elevator music. Normaly,folks that search maintenance videos are layperson and don't know what's going on unless you explain. Cheers.

Good feedback thank you…this was done early on for my channel. I’ve learned a lot about how to present these videos since then. I appreciate it!

I am getting a banging noise in my 650R after landing from a jump. Sounds like it coming from the rear suspension. Maybe its time for me to do this?
@Garage2Trail Жыл бұрын
sounds like something came loose or maybe you blew the bump stop off the shock.
@scottloftin1730 Жыл бұрын
@@Garage2Trail Thanks for responding. Where is the bump stop located. I wanted to take it out for one more ride before I tear it apart.
@Garage2Trail Жыл бұрын
No problem! It’s at the bottom of the shaft on the shock. Just a piece of rubber that keeps metal on metal contact from happening.
