I thought I'd give you the tour of our McIntosh system stack in our HiFi room at Xtend Technologies. This is a way to get serious "separates" sound, for less than max serious money.
Thanks for watching!

Looks good. I hope to buy a C53 preamp to go with my MC462 sometime here.

I upgraded to a McIntosh C49 and a MC462 in 2022 with a DIY set of open baffle speakers after running a JVC receiver since the 80s with Bose 901s don’t laugh😂 and they rock the house.

Informative video! I just built my first home 2 channel system. I purchased a Luxman integrated amplifier and Dynaudio speakers. The racks are nice. They really tidy things up if you go the full separates route and are limited in space.

I've heard and read nothing but stellar comments about McIntosh components and Revel loudspeakers. How many home audio amplifier manufacturers can claim that their amps were part of the Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound concert rig? Best amps on the planet?

CAG - Pre-Amps & Power Ams hold their value best - Don’t disagree! I’m using almost 50 year old C-26 + MC-2105 ? They’re still going strong.

Nice one. I have vintage C28 and MC 105 wiith Triangle speakers. Why you are not using Mac Speakers? I mean, just to have it all Mac.

Hi, Clint nice system. Does your shop sell Simaudio and if not what are your thoughts on their gear and their warranty, which I believe is ten years.
@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy
@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy 2 жыл бұрын
We do not. I think they probably make great gear too though. I haven't heard anything bad about them. The warranty doesn't matter a whole lot to me. Bryston advertises 20 years. If it's a quality made product it should last 20-25 years + anyways. If you're going to have a failure, it should be in the beginning, so you'll know in a reasonable amount of time. Mac pieces are built to last the rest of your life.

@@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy Clint you are right,ah…..Bryston yes. I think a long warranty speaks to a companies confidence in their products, but it doesn’t tell you nothing about sound quality. I agree that Mac stuff is built like a brick, even better and reliable than Audio Research, but in my opinion Audio Research is better sounding gear overall. Mac equipment has a better resale value than practically anything out there.

Hi Clint. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Mac. I've noticed you're comfortable with Revel brand speakers paired with Mac. I'm considering upgrading speakers in the near future. Including Revel , are there other brands you would recommend at a price point of 10K or less that pairs well with either a MA8900 and/or an MC312. I listen to rock, metal and jazz fusion with some grunge sprinkled in. Thanks . Greg

Sure, the Revel F-228 Be speakers are great, but McIntosh also has a nice speaker for $10K the XR100 which are pretty awesome.

Thanks for the demo Kirk Are you saying that integrated amps can’t compete with separates?
@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy

Not at all. They can absolutely compete with separates, it just depends on the integrated amp.

Looks good.I‘ve had a MA-7000 but it just couldn‘t control the Wilson Woofers.Too Slow and not enough control.I Think you need the right speakers for mcintosh because the Sound isn‘t quite neutral.It makes it‘s own Sound and rather your into it or not.If you like the tubekind Sound but need Power,your good with mcintosh.If you want neutrality,speed and Control you‘ll better pick something else. Maybe the bigger amps performe on a different Level.Unfortunately for the cost you geht a piece of nagra,souloution & so on.Simply no comparison…

The MA-7000 was from a whole different era of McIntosh products. There's been many changes since then. Newer transistors, more power supply capacitance, etc. Also, impedance dips of certain speakers can make them sound slow. You can use the other taps on the Mac amps to change the sound characteristics in that regard. But in any case, pairing the speaker with the right amplifier will always give you optimal results, though I can't imagine the MC-462 not powering anything great. I've heard most amplifier brands, and I can only rank McIntosh among the best of them, though certainly not the most expensive. One of the best systems I ever heard used the MC-1.25KW amps, which is why I own them now. For the best bang you can get for the buck, the MC-462 shown in this video is the move, IMO.
