Here's Xuefei Yang playing "Eterna Saudade" by Dilermando Reis on a gorgeous 1925 Santos Hernandez classical guitar with spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.

Saudade is a feeling of longing, melancholy, desire, and nostalgia that is characteristic of the Brazilian or Portuguese temperament. It describes a deep emotional state; a yearning for a happiness that has passed, or perhaps never even existed. Just perfect here.

This piece has an excerpt very similar to the melody of the first Chopin Concerto, the feeling is not equal but seeing such a beautiful melody surrounded by a new harmony for me is just incredible.

John Mardinly, I am so glad that you explained the meaning of Saudade. That is my quest that I keep searching for in songs and music. My favorite pieces have that quality about it ... a longing, a melancholy for something that was perfect (or nearly so.) Deep, emotional, beautiful, striving towards heavenly. And, yet it has a duality quality about it ... somewhere between joy and sadness. It's of something that was once joyful, but now has notes of sadness in it ... a longing-ness for that joy to come back again.

As a Brazilian guy, and listening this melody from a great composer played by a talented guitarist like Xuefei Yang, I can just imagine how happy and proud Dilermando Reis would be if he could listen his melody played with so much skill and heart. Thank you, Xuefei Yang.🌹🎶🎶💯

Dilermando Reis was a wonderful Brazilian musician,composer and guitarist. We are lucky to have Xuefei Yang to play his music and reveal her soul to us .

This performance sounds likes it's bleeding. It's so heartfelt. Xuefei is a true maestro. One of the greatest, ever. I had the pleasure of participating in a masterclass with her about 10 years ago and it was a truly eye opening experience. The dedication, the discipline it takes to perform at this level is something 99.9% of us will never understand. The music however, the emotions being conveyed here are something all of us can understand. Whatever language comes from our mouths is irrelevant as this music comes from the heart.

@@glennlubomirskynovitch3254 It was a lot of small things really, just the insight into how her mind thought about music and technique. There was no big "A-HA!" moment or secret trick. The peek inside her head showed me how much I was missing when thinking about guitar and music in general. Attention to detail is attention to passion!

Xuefei Yang is by far my favorite classical guitar player. I have three of her CD's that I listen to regularly. It is not simply technical proficiency but the expressive musicality and heart put into the music. This piece makes the listener reflect on something deep in their psyche, perhaps some unfulfilled longing.

After listening to about 30 performance of "Eterna Saudade", I have to say I like this one the most. In particular I am fascinated by the individual finger strikes in the little harp sounding run in the first part of each section (is there a name for that?). Many people play that with a strum, but I don't feel it gives the same water trickling sound that her plucking accomplishes. And the slight hesitation before the last few notes is so evocative. I found myself just waiting for the music to come around again so I would hear that once more.

It's a pride and joy to see and listen to one of the greatest guitarrists of ou time playing the most sentimental Waltz composed by Dilermando Reis. His importance in Brazilian guitar's repertoire can't be just accounted. Thanks for this brief but intense experience and best regard from Brazil. Fun fact: Dilermando Reis was music teacher of former Brazil's presidente, Juscelino Kubistchek, during the 40s.

Em alguns momentos até parece um 7 cordas, esse violão tem um timbre que favorece todas as regiões do grave ao agudo, ainda mais com uma intérprete dessas, o eleva a um patamar de quase o que você encontraria no Santo Graal
