ahhh, English walnuts -- what a lovely bonus to the property. Nuts are rather expensive currently so I am adding my harvested hickory nuts to granola (vs. pecan) and will use them in my pecan tarts and pecan sandies (cookies) this holiday season. The pear tart looked fabulous.

l learned that pecans are especially richer in vitamin A and vitamin E and considerably higher in vitamins B1 and B5. 🌳

@@Frenchcountryfriends This I did not know! So I will watch for sales as currently they are rather expensive here. Thank you for sharing this information.

What great walnut recipes. We have a large walnut tree that we will soon be gathering our nut treasures (if we can beat the squirrels).

I have a feeling you don’t mind sharing. We haven’t seen one squirrel. I don’t they live in this region 🤣 What are your fav recipes? Do you wait until they drop to the ground before collecting?

@@Frenchcountryfriends We have grey ground squirrels, brown tree squirrels, and small chipmunks. They are cute but do a lot of damage. For collecting walnuts, I prefer to let them drop on ground hoping the green outer shell pops off but when I am competing with the squirrel, I take a stick and start knocking them off. Our favorite recipe is simple oatmeal raisin cookies with walnuts or zucchini bread with walnuts.

@@k.crosbie261 we’ve been eating a lot walnut bread lately with none of the walnuts from our tree. Vers November.

Walnuts can be kept (in their shells) in a cool, dry place for up to 3 years. Looks like you need a real nut cracker (very handy). I Make a similar pear tarte, but I always cut the cores out (just like you would do with apples).

Hi Monique, I did not know that about walnuts. I agree that a nutcracker is probably more appropriate, but I am getting better cracking them with a mallet! Your pear tarte sounds amazing, I will put in a request for Jeni and see what happens :).-Justin

@@Frenchcountryfriends Yes, that even happens with store bought ones, most likely has to do with moisture.
