@@BrecMadakthis album in particular is pure death metal. Basically every Xysma release is a different stage in the spectrum spanning from Goregrind (or Grindcore if you count the demo they made under the name Repulse) to Surf rock and this album is the pure death metal stage.

There is even a little bit of Death n Roll in here too if you listen closely, I'm pretty sure Xysma was critical in Entombed's change of sound and style

it says in the finnish death metal book that xysma and entombed were friends and exchanged ideas often. xysma did a few gigs in stockholm around 1990-1991 and apparently entombed were very enthusiastic about it so i think it's safe to say they were influenced by this

I remember when I first bought this album back in the day of the early 1990s it was my freshmen year of high school it was the 90/91 school year and the best way to describe this style in my opinion would be sabathey hippie death metal very catchy

Imagine a similar album but sung in Swahili. No one will listen to it but it will be the best album ever when I make it. I think African languages would mix really well with atmospheric metal.

Back in 80’s thrash and death metal lees went nuts when Candlemass came out because they weren’t “fast” enough and too “Sabbathy” / doomy. This album was pretty unique among the herd for not using the traditional death-metal chords and riffs. But if you distort their guitars further and alter the vocal style and distortions - and down tune the guitars waaayyyyyyyy more and use the Celtic Frost style - and voila! You will be just about at Norwegian Black Metal. Not sure what the big “argument” is about. No matter how differently pronounce it, a tomato still tastes like a tomato. The 70’s infusion into their riffs is at least an attempt to be different and original.

This attachment to labeling is really just kinda boring to me personally since having already experienced it 80’searly 90’s style. I loved Candlemass back in the day, but many didn’t. Tis just the way it was.
