Yeah, about time I do Y-box huh?
I was going to do this one many months ago,
But uh… I just didn’t, for some godforsaken reason.
Well… now everyone is making Y-box mixes.
So I don’t really think many people will care about this mix?
But oh well… I guess I’ll do it anyway.
It’s a fantastic mod, so why wouldn’t I?
Y-box is one of those unique mods, right?
And you know me… these have a habit of being personal favourites of mine.
They’re just a breath of fresh air in this aromatic dust that surrounds me, you know?
And when I first heard about it… gotta say, I had high expectations.
And what do you know… he clearly delivered.
Youxe has always been one of my favourite mod makers.
I would argue that he’s surprisingly underrated, in many ways.
I know… it sounds ridiculous, but think about it.
Name me a mod that youxe made that isn’t either anything in the Y-box series, or pointless.

Yeah, nothing, right?
Anyway… onto the mod itself!
Its whole gimmick is fairly simple.
There are only fifteen sounds, being five beats, five effects, three melodies… and two voices.
The other gimmick is that it has a more remastered looking art-style.
Compared to the everyday polos you and I see all the time, that is.
Yeah, it obviously looks fantastic.
I would be lying if I said it wasn’t, then again… I don’t have much to say about it.
I’ll say this, beat one is a damn creative design, the rest? I like them, interesting theme.
But the animations? Kinda hit or miss.
I just feel like a lot of them just look either too smooth or too jolty, know what I mean?
JT in the beats has an uncomfortably smooth animation…
And then the fourth beat has like… four frames of animation.
But how does it sound?
It sounds pretty good, but not the best.
Remember… there are only three melodies and two voices, right?
So it’s gonna be well… a bit limited.
But I’ll let it slide because it’s technically the whole dang point, no?
I also feel like the effects don’t really uh…
Do too much?
The only worthwhile ones are the first and the second, which are just the bass and a horn.
The rest?
An acapella hi-hat, when there are already three other ones in the beats…
100% atmospheric puffing sounds (which sort of just waste space)
And well… there’s the bell.
I don’t know if this is a controversial opinion to have? But I don’t really care for it.
I feel like the whistle in the melodies just does its job better, you know?
Anyway… besides some small itty bitty nitpicks, it sounds great, very great.
About mixing with it? Well…
It’s very simple.
You may not have the full twenty sounds… but you can probably just make due with pretending that the horn and the bass are melodies.
They work well enough, right?
I also recommend making your mix non-progressive, it just makes everything a whole lot simpler to look at, right?
Besides that? You should be fine.
Just don’t use all of your melodies at once, because well…
Who are you gonna out up, then?
You only have three, so use them wisely, alright?
In-between is a solid 7/10 mod.
It’s unique, and obviously has a lot of effort put into it.
But coupled with the theme of the music itself as well as some of the animations?
Well… it makes it a bit less memorable, ironically.
It’s just solid, I enjoy it, I suppose.
