RECORDANDO LOS 70s... Con el rock progresivo… la música había dejado de ser bailable y varios locales… sobre todo los bares de chicos con aspecto delicado y de jóvenes latinos… que demandaban un ritmo que animara a la gente a convertirse por un momento en los reyes de la pista de baile…
Así nació Village People como un proyecto planificado y estudiado… un plástico extravagante cuyo nombre es en honor a Greenwich Village… zona de los amantes de las braguetas en Nueva York…
Cada integrante portaba un disfraz diferente… policía… indio… vaquero… albañil… motociclista y soldado…que representaban a seis estereotipos de la época y humedecían los escrotos de los gustosos por la de hacer gente y los jóvenes mancebos setenteros…
El nombre de esta canción son las siglas de la Young Men’s Christian Association (Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes)…una de las asociaciones más antiguas y su objetivo consiste en poner en práctica los principios cristianos a través del cuerpo… la mente y el espíritu… pero que muchos de la comunidad de los siete colores aprovechaban sus instalaciones para conseguir garañones…

Loved this song. I danced to it as a youth. We all sang it at my wedding. We sang is again at my kid's weddings. We sang it at my grandkid's graduation parties. I think I am going to request it to be sung at my funeral. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I’m a DJ and a few years ago on New Years I played ymca at a huge dance as a joke but to my surprise everyone in the building went crazy and made the famous Y.M.C.A. This song just has a magical power to make people have a good time.

I saw these guys on the gold coast in Australia, early 1980s, so glad I did it was full.of energy, very uplifting, and a bloody great show, the complete audience was up and raging the whole concert.
