在2007年被指定為國定古蹟
建物為磚木構造
外廊樓板採用鐵軌混凝土構造
一樓大廳有著高挑的弧形天花板
室內天花板及牆面以灰泥雕塑裝飾
這座印象深刻的建築物位於忠孝西路和塔城街之間
這裡在日本時代
是臺灣總督府交通局鐵道部
是台灣歷史上最重要的鐵道行政設施之一
主廳舍除了是交通局鐵道部的辦公地點外
這裡更是多項鐵道工作的主要公務場所
