I understood the visualised explaination in the first part very well, but the practical part is somewhat confusing ..but am sure I need a few other playbacks of this video to lock down the technique

There’s no video on KZfaq which helps understanding the y wing method. Not even this one

V wing would be more appropriate name which would highlight the pivot and pincer cells better and there relationship. The pivot has 2 values which are also in the 2 pincers with a third value. The third value is the only candidate which can be eliminated in the correct cell(s). The important part is the two pincers can not see each other, but any cells that both see can have third value removed. And yes most explanations are terrible, took me sitting on this one to finally get a better grasp. Though finding one in a real puzzle is another problem.

Complementing the explanation: When he says one of these cells "sees" the other two, it means that only this cell "intersects" with the other two cells (whether by row, column or a big block). So Green is the only one that "intersects" with them in this pattern, in this case. So Green is intersecting them by a row, a column or a big block. Since it is not possible that Yellow and Blue contain C simultaneously; and since a C is mandatory to solve one of them, any other C that intersects these two cells must be eliminated. In this case, the only intersection possible between the Yellow and Blue is through the [column 5, row 8]. So [column 5, row 8] cannot have a C and it must be eliminated from the possibilities. In the second example, the cell X [column 2, row 1] intersects with the cell Y [column 2, row 9] by the column, and with the cell Z [column 3, row 2] by the block. So cell X is taken as the reference for the Y-Wing. The other two cells left must then eliminate any cells that intersect simultaneously with cell Y and cell Z. In this case, only the cell W [column 3, row 8] is the one intersecting both cell Y (by a block) and with cell Z (by a column)
