My grandfathers generation had ustad bade gulam Ali khan , my fathers generation had pandit ajoy chakraborty , and we have kaushiki Didi :') the torch is passed down through generations

i don't understand the different classifications of music: Listening to Kaushiki Chakraborty makes me happy as much as listening to Zakir Hussain or Suresh Wadkar, Kishan Maharaj, Girija Devi or Dylan, Simon/ Garfunkel, Beatles. This is my happy world!

@@aninditabhakta2144 Same here. I can not sing. In fact never knew how difficult and critical singing is! One should not go "besur" or "betaal". It is very difficult for me to understand how the words in tune can be represented in other string instruments! :-D Due to my previous births good karma I got married to Haresh Bakshi who is a child prodigy in Indian classical music. He cleared his Sangeet Visharad exam when he was just 10 years old. And he got his certificate when he completed 11 years because of the rules of the Exam. The more I knew about his composing ability, singing excellence in Classical music as well as Gujarati sugam sangeet, Bhajans, Gazals in Hindi, urdu and Gujarati.... my jaws are always dropped down! Well, all that said I always enjoyed "good music" whether it is vocal, classical, sugam sangeet, instrumental and/or even Country music in western music. That is what is more important for me that I ENJOY music! Lucky me!

Somik Chatterjee I love a lot of opera, violin and piano works. I love bade ghulam ali khan for khyals and thumris. Light and film music (Hindi), I adore kl saigal. But I find it difficult to say which is better.

Ma'am I am not learned enough to comment on your singing but I would like to say that you are a real inspiration. The Indian Classical music is seeing newer heights and the way you present it is so new. The koyal ki kook is superbly incredibly splendid. I don't think I have ever heard anybody doing anything of this sort to classical music. May you keep inspiring the likes of us and many more. This is a thumri and not a gazal. A thumri is only sung in hindi language whereas gazals are penned in urdu. Although they both tend to be odes to the beloved.
