It really feels like you all got such satisfaction from this new season because y’all have been *locked in* from the beginning of the show. You saw all the connections and foreshadowing that people like myself missed on the first experience. Bleach is a series that gets more rewarding when you invest more of yourself into it. Huge props to the Rock D Lee crew.

Kubo is really good at taking stuff from earlier in his story and expanding on it later in a way that makes sense.

If I recall correctly, the Hollow at the beginning of Bleach. Mentioned multiple times that HE is Zangetsu, he was Ichigo's true Zanpakuto. But due to Yhwach guiding him, both were his Zanpakuto & others have already mentioned which sword is which.

Fun fact: One of the REALLY REALLY OLD fan theories about Ichigo being a Quincy being correct was that not only did Ichigo have a cross on his bed sheets and that his getsuga was blue like a Quincy arrow (although I think it was supposed to be yellow in the manga but changed) was that his name "Ichigo" can be broken down to "ichi" meaning 1 and "go" meaning 5, which can be looked at as 15/fifteen. Kubo also loves foreign languages and cultures, especially Hispanic and Mexican, and the number 15 is quince, which is pronounced an awful lot like Quincy, especially if spoken by someone from Japan since they pronounce foreign words using Katakana. Quince most likely is read as either: "Ki-i-n-se", "Ki-i-n-shi", "Ku-i-n-se", or "Ku-i-n-shi" all of which are pretty close in pronounciation. So from that people thought Kubo was doing a play on words using the Spanish word for 15 which sounds similar to Quincy, to hint that he is one. Also that he used Spanish because he's also part Hollow and Hollows were influenced by Hispanic culture/language.

The real Zangetsu were the friends we made along the way

In EP19, when they first met, old man Zangetsu tried to reveal his true name to Ichigo but something/someone was preventing it! Insane foreshadowing from Kubo! BTW. one Zanpakuto represents his Inner Hollow/White Zangetsu along woth Soul Reaper powers, while the smaller Zanpakuto represents the old man which is Ichigo's Quincy powers.

So the interesting thing is, Aizen noted that Ichigo had fused with his sword. Well, his sword is both Quincy and Hollow. Even when he was training to get the Final Getsuga, Zangetsu did so by fusing the hollow and the quincy into one being and passing their sword to Ichigo. So Final Getsuga was basically him accessing this real power that he has now for a split second. That is why Ichigo's Final Getsuga is noted as the most power technic ever used in Bleach

What's even cooler about this is the 8th Volume of Bleach is where Ichigo first encounters Old Man Zangetsu, and is titled "The Blade and Me." Signifying that Ichigo doesn't see Zangetsu as a part of himself, but as a separate entity; this is even more apparent whenever Hollow Ichigo shows up and Ichigo just outright rejects him every time, so titling this "The Blade is Me" is a really nice closure moment! It's also funny because all shinigami talk about their swords being a part of themselves - they eat, sleep, train and live with them all the time - except for Ichigo and Kenpachi - conveniently both characters who don't get true access to their powers until this arc, when they finally accept and/or reach their true potential. Honestly gotta say Kubo did a real good job with this and this season was really well put together.

Something a lot of people tend to mess up. The blue sword that Zangetsu left for Ichigo is just Ichigo's soul reaper powers, Ichigo submerging and the dialogue after that scene was actually him getting his Quincy powers to forge the second sword, instead of just letting them go.

Love it. Aizen was Soul Societys enemy. He even said as much when he asked Ichigo: Why are you fighting me? This is different. It's personal. Ichigo's fight to avenge his mother, that's subconsciously influenced all his actions thus far. His true enemy.

When you go back at all the interactions between Zangetsu and Ichigo, you realized he never lied to him, always taught him something about himself and saved him many time...Both of them...That really changed the whole dynamic of those conversations ! Now the two of them will work with Ichigo, his dual Zanpakuto and full power unleashed !! One united power...

Also it's nice to realize that the reason why Zangetsu knows Getsuga Tensho is because that was the only Shinigami technic he learned, directly from Isshin. So it probably has nothing to do with Ichigo being his son since we never see other father-son shinigamis with the same powers

If you go back to when Isshin first showed his powers, Urahara asks him if he has avenged his wife and he says not yet.

My man Tite Kubo knows how to write a dayum story. When I watched these two episodes, couldn't stop smiling and nodding. My man too clever. That's what makes anime so great

If Bleach had came out while we were just in our 20s I think people would say it's amazing more so than they do now. Because I know a lot of the complaints about Bleach were really the story going over some people's heads. Kubo gives us a lot of credit to assume we'd piece together his puzzle. Bleach gives us the typical shonen tropes we like but there is so much more Kubo tries.

Interesting note: Remember when Ichigo was training to get his Bankai and Old Man Zangetsu told him to find his sword in the middle of a thousand others and it took him 3 days? Well, I see him finding his zanpaktou amid the Asauchi as a reference to that, only now he knew IMMEDIATELY. Also props for that talk on Kamen Rider, true culture right there.

Ichigo has finally reached the point in a soul reaper/zanpakuto relationship where he no longer sees them himself and his zanpakuto as separate entities but rather parts of a whole.

ryuken and katagiri are also lovers in the inuyasha universe. their voice actors are also sesshomaru and rin respectively!

So this is where we learn what the fandom calls the "transcendence" formula, and its also where we have the info to explain Aizens loss to Ichigo. So the formula is that Soul reaper balances Quincy and Human balances Hollow. So all 4 are needed for true transcendence, thats why Aizen lost. During the final fight Aizen has Soul reaper, Hollow and Quincy gained from the Hogyouku but he repeatedly rejects the idea that a human could ever reach him. So as he pull more power he balances his Soul reaper and Quincy but his hollow goes more and more out of control untill it comes crashing down. The story seems to have had this idea almost from the beginning to its amazing how much kubo must have planned from chapter 1

Now you know how he was able to steal all of Rukia's powers back in episode 1, his quincy powers allowed him, and since it was the quincy side the "zanpakuto" that he was wielding untill now was fake, just a fake one created with reiatsu through quincy powers. One of those things that Kubo decided to take hundreds of chapters before giving an answer after presenting the question lol.

When Ichigo first time uses his "Bankai", Byakuya already say that this is not a "Bankai".

Aside from the revelations here, Ichigo's new zanpakuto means he's one of the few Soul Reapers with dual zanpakuto, and his is much more visually distinct than the rest. Shunsui and Ukitake also have dual zanpakuto, but their blades are more or less identical with each other (I think one of Shunsui's is slightly shorter than the other, but it's not always noticeable). A neat advantage to Ichigo's is that the different blade lengths would allow him to use the smaller blade to defend himself and the larger blade for offensive purposes. (It's part of a swordfighting technique developed by Miyamoto Musashi, a very proficient Japanese swordsman who lived during the 1600s. Accounts of his fights would practically make him an anime protagonist in his own right.)

I kind of love that Katagiri wasn't being selfish. She always stood by Ryuken, so when Masaki was injured the information was passed on to ensure her injury was properly treated. Ichigo's the only one with the Hollow though. No real explanation as to why I've ever seen given.

Beautiful storytelling, this mini arc is peak shonen for me. A classic coming of age story, since the beginning we see Ichigo struggling to accept his powers even the fact that he could see gosts. From asking help from old man Zangetsu and lending some of "his" power, to suppressing his violent instincts taking the form of White, feeling the need to make him subservient to his will, fighting to see who is the king. It's a masterfully crafted character development, understanding both of them as an extension of his soul, that's why he says he will no longer fight alongside them, they are all him. Man I love Bleach :D

Not sure if you understand but Zangetsu (fake) didn’t like when Ichigo was in despair as he says he hates the rain, and it rains in Ichigo’s inner world when he feels despair. He truly wanted to help him but not to the goal of becoming a soul reaper

So every time White said, "Uh... I'M Zangetsu" he wasn't lying. 😂 My man had to feel so disrespected. He kept telling Ichigo, "You're not using me right."

White (Zangetsu/Hollow Ichigo) always said something so mysteriously since way before he showed up. He said to Old man Zangetsu when they first appeared during Ichigo's fight with Zaraki that he will then have the power that Ichigo cultivated in the future, the second time they met, he said to Ichigo that he's stronger now than old man Zangetsu, thus the reason why he's the first who showed up when the visored trained Ichigo. He always hinted that him (White) and Old man Zangetsu is fighting for supremacy on what power of Ichigo will be available for him.

I love this series so much, I can't wait for summer.

The best way I thought of Ichigo's soul reaper power is that especially with showing the 2 swords, consider 1 sword his quincy sword, and the other his hollow sword. But his soul reaper power is to make them be in harmony to control all 3 powers in 1. Aizen was working the entire series to combine both soul reaper and hollow, to produce something that could ascend past a shinigami, and it seems like ichigo's power has done that and then some. Really cool stuff. Can't wait for the next season, my only worry is that I wish they could extend it, the manga had some amazing fights, but there were just too many to not give them each their own due. I wouldn't mind seeing it broken into 2 seasons just so they can give the fights the justice they deserve!

In my opinion this one of the if not the best plot twist in the series. It is one where I am certain that it was planned from pretty much the beginning because there were always some things about Ichigo's power that didn't make sense. And when you rewatch the series with this in mind, so much falls into place

I love how much faith they have in Ishida.

Remember how Ichigo's fullbring powers took the form of his hollow mask, but on his body? After he got his powers back, the adornments that appear permanently glued to his soul form is his hollow/fullbring. Fighting with his eyes slashed finally taught him precise control of his spiritual pressure, so now he exerts the hollow mask naturally. Also his hollow being made from layered shinigami souls similar to asauchi is why all the asauchi bowed to him once he finally embraced the hollow nature of his power. Also in the first episode of bleach, you can see the quincy cross as Ichigo's bedsheets. 😂

The swords look like they were combined at first. I think he can use them together and then split them when he needs to. It also looked like maybe he has similar powers to all the soul reapers that helped him get his powers back, like the fire, the duel swords, and it disintegrating. There's probably more that we haven't seen yet.

Sentai is the term usually associated with the japanese super hero genre that Power Rangers, Masked Rider, Beetleborgs, Superhuman Samurai Sybersquad and VR Troopers. They fall under the category of Tokusatsu, the same as Godzilla and Ultraman. Seriously, you guys should check it out. Some of the original japanese versions are really good/better than their US counter parts. On the top of that list I recommend an anime version called SSSS.Gridman.

This was such a satisfying point when you theorized all throughout the series of the og anime bleach

Imagine if Isshin had sat Ichigo down and explained all this way back in episode 2 lol How different would Ichigo have been when Renji and Byakuya show up to take back Rukia? Rukia never explained how the zanpokutou is supposed to work because she expected those powers to fade from him and return to her, but thanks to Urahara's human gigai and Ichigo having his own powers, they never did. Imagine if during the 3 months Rukia was there, Isshin and Urahara were actually working with Ichigo on his power. Byakuya and Renji would've been sent packing, making everything actually way worse but it's fun to think about. p.s. Am I the only one thinking that Ichigo's "shikai" up until this point looks like a supersized version of Yhwach's sword without the guard?

I remember when episode 13 was released in the manga. Everyone lost their shit. Especially because when people first saw Yhwach, they just figured that Tite Kubo had run out of character design ideas. But it was all planned. That shot of Ichigo at 34:45 is a famous panel from the manga. I'm so glad they put it in there. And the name name even mirrors the chapter where Zangetsu makes his debut. That chapter was "The Blade and Me." This is "The Blade Is Me." It establishes the truth that a zanpakuto isn't just a tool for the soul reaper but rather a part of them. Maybe the most important part of them. Zangetsu and Yhwach even have the same voice actor.

In episode 1 Ichigos bed sheets are in the style of a Quincy cross. Idk if it was foreshadowing, but I think it’s pretty cool

Someone correct if anything is wrong. The bigger sword represents his Soul Reaper/Hollow Powers while the shorter one represents his Quincy powers. Also during the Kenpachi fight "Zangetsu" used two different Quincy abilities: 1st: he used Blut Vene to stop the flow of blood from the wound Kenpachi inflicted when he stabbed through Ichigo's sword. 2nd: He used the "teleportation" shadow to manifest in the real world to draw Ichigo into his inner world. And now that I typed that I'm thinking that Ichigo never truly brought Zangetsu into the real world which is needed to master Bankai, but instead it was the Old Man using this ability. (I'm sure about #1 but not 100% sure about #2. However when Ichigo said that the Old Man used the quincies shadow they used that scene as the example.)

It is never actually explained, Kubo explains it outside of Bleach. The zanpakuto is the sword AND the scabbard. That's why when Ikkaku bankai's he puts his scabbard and sword together. And why the scabbardless Ichigo has two blades.

As someone es already said... the masked heroes genre is called "super" Sentai (the super is opcional)... And this genre is a part of the bigger genre Tokusatsu which actually refers to the style of the show with the martial arts and special effects fighting giant monsters... which includes stuff like godzilla...

When Ichigo saw Zangetsu in bankai state back before fighting Aizen he said that he looked younger because Ichigo was in bankai. We took that to mean ok this is tensa zangetsu, he just looks younger but it was probably more so that in bankai state Ichigo's soul reaper powers were winning the power tug of war and thus his quincy powers regressed as it took more to suppress it taking over completely. That also ended up being the battle in which he tells Ichigo when he is confused as to why Zangetsu wouldn't just lend him his power to fight Aizen that "What you want to protect isn't what I want to protect".

My understanding of how Ichigo's mother died is as follows: Ichigo was lured by Grand Fisher and ended up in a dangerous situation. His mother, who was still a Quincy with all her powers, intervened to save him. When Grand Fisher attacked, she intended to use her Quincy abilities to shield Ichigo with her body. However, at that moment, the Quincy King took away her powers, leaving her defenseless. She couldn't protect Ichigo without her abilities, so she took the hit and sacrificed herself to save him. That's why Ichigo woke up to find his mother dead, lying on top of him. It's important to note that Ichigo's mother had retained her Quincy powers until that moment, while only Ichigo's father had lost his powers to bind the hollow. I hope this clarifies the situation.

Masaki was still a Quincy, and still powerful. Isshin said that. She saw Fisher and tried to rescue him, but that was when her powers were taken from her.

The following is what I've seen other people say but are things I haven't looked into myself: 1st is that the Old Man was able to suppress White because of the Quincies ability to subjugate reishi. 2nd: This goes with #1. In the episode, forgot the #, that Ishida used the bait that ended up attracting the Menos. Apparently Ichigo used the Quincies ability to absorb reishi to draw enough energy to defeat the Menos. However I've seen the argument that it was just Ichigo's own enormous energy being drawn by Ishida.

The shock Ryuken has when isshin says "if I didn't save someone when I could my future self won't forgive me" was not only that isshin would make such a sacrifice, but also because masaki had said that exact same thing in the previous episode when she ran off to fight the hollow. So he sort of realized that isshin was sort of the perfect person for masaki. Not to mention she was "tainted" at that point so his arranged marriage to masaki wasn't gonna happen anyways. Also small note. When isshin does save her inside her soul realm, in the manga she's naked. And when you see her smiling and talking about isshin in her sleep, she's blushing and saying that because, like I said, she was actually visually naked and he was holding her, while she was naked. Also you'll find out just how important katagiri is to the over arching story of the TYBW. And yes she died because she was weak and her Quincy powers were basically keeping her life prolonged. And the hollow in Ichigo is technically the same that infected masaki. Like you noted it looks similar to Ichigo in his full hollow/Vasto Lorde form.

@22:45 the reason why Ishidas mom died immediately & not Masaki is because Katagiri is relatively frail due to her being a halfbreed mixed Quincy. Masaki on the other hand was a pure blood do her vitality was much higher.

love the reaction. the hollow inside ichigo is the one that attacked ichigos mom in the past, thats why his vasto lorde form looked the way it did. because ichigo awakened his powers his sisters dont have it for now but it is written in that they could develope it in a future arc if he chooses to continue the story forward and use it, but for right now only ichigo has the hollow. ichigo is a descendant of a noble house from soul society and the the quincies. the hollow powers and fullbring powers came about because both his mom and him were attacked by hollows and survived. you have now learned that ichigo only had about 20% of his power the whole time and just gained access to the rest of it but he must now remaster his power. its actually 4 in 1 ( human, hollow, Quincy, and soul reaper) not 3 in 1

What Zangetsu was talking about when he said he’d have to kill him is the same thing that happened with the Quincies in the human world with Yhwach attacking everyone with his blood, Zangetsu is basically the Quincy blood in Ichigo’s veins, and since all Quincies have his blood it means in a way Zangetsu is the quincy king because he is the Quincy king’s blood that developed it’s own will, so he is both the Quincy king and not at the same time, the Quincy king and Zangetsu are not connected whatsoever apart from this and neither Zangetsu or the quincy king share any mental facilities at all

Don't overcomplicate how Ichigo fights with two Zangetsu. Just think how Asta fights with two swords and you get the gist of it

I do think it makes sense that Yuzu has no spiritual power cuz Ichigo is the first born. Maybe he inherited most of his parents' abilities and Karin inherited the rest of them so there was nothing left for Yuzu to inherit
