Zvi Aviram-Abrahamsohn was born in Berlin in 1927, to his mother Margarete and father Arthur. Following the Nazi rise to power, the family suffered from the anti-Jewish persecution and legislation, and Zvi's father lost his livelihood. Zvi was expelled from public school and went to learn at a Jewish school. Zvi's sister escaped to England as part of the Kindertransport, from there reaching Australia.
Beginning in March 1941, Berlin Jews were conscripted to forced labor, and Zvi was forced to work at a munitions factory. In February 27, 1943, his parents were arrested and sent to Auschwitz, where they perished. Zvi remained alone in Berlin, living in hiding. He joined the "Pioneer Circle" and the Communist underground movements, for which he spread anti-regime propaganda leaflets on the streets of Berlin. On May 9th, Berlin was liberated by the Russians. After the war, Zvi worked in the Jewish agency and was active in aiding then-illegal immigration to pre-state Israel. He immigrated to Israel in 1948, married Esther, and they have had three children.

Thank you for the documentary...as a 25 year old, I am a second generation American from European descent and a child of Baby Boomers. I grew up with stories of the people in camps being liberated and of those who did the liberating....
