So, the potential moral of the story is possibly dont pay $500 for non working radios, they can be a nightmare. That being said, no-one twisted my arm to buy this radio, the gambler in me must have been active that day and decided to roll the dice. Many many(too many) hours later, finally, she's a really good radio working beautifully but the time spent, oh boy, I underestimated this one by a mile. Do I regret it, well I did initially, who pays $500 for a radio, no mic, no power cord and 3 or 4 independent faults that made it obvious, I had bought a parts radio, boards swapped etc etc. Incredibly, I started to almost enjoy the challenge, even though I was still frustrated, this radio became a huge lesson in 101 fault finding when faced with multiple faults and to be honest, you can't get better experience than digging in and working the problems til you see solutions. So another old junked radio back in the world of the living, the Yaesu FT902D is actually quite a rare beast these days so a pleasure to get working again.
