I would be interested in a similar video about Marine Band radios.

Hi Mark I honestly enjoyed your presentation, knowledge and style! I just want to get you an honest feedback. 2 weeks ago I got my 850l. It comes with everything and can do everything. Yes, the display gets dark in bright sunlight. This is true! But it's a backup radio. We used it in my German flying club and communication was perfect even with a plane approaching from a direction where our hangars block communication with our other handhelds. In comparisom to cheap yaesu and icom devices it works better. It also works fine with my headset Raytalk ANR 600, sold under different brand names in the world. Just tested it today. Read you 5 was the answer. For me the Yaesu 850 is a great device and Bluetooth is a game changer. Still the visibility in direct sunlight is bad. In an emergency situation you can always change your viewing angle... I really like this device. You can set up everything as you want . It is delivered with all accessories except an external PTT button and just works perfectly. Best regards from Bavaria, Germany

Hi Mark, Informative video. You mention they can be used by 'Aviation Enthusiast', but no mention that users must be licensed to use them. Obvious to most, but not everybody.

Hi David, license not necessary for RX, but yes, one needs to be either a licensed pilot or authorised controller to TX. I did my PPL so long ago now, that I also took a separate Aviation Radio License!
@TheBob78249Ай бұрын
@@Martin_Lynch He is correct you can't legally listen to the aircraft band unless you are licensed to do so in the UK although plenty probably do.
@Martin_LynchАй бұрын
For RX, no license is required, for TX, please see www.caa.co.uk/commercial-industry/airspace/communication-navigation-and-surveillance/aeronautical-radio-stations/

@@Martin_Lynch I have the FTA-550L only for rx, i live nearby a airport. You can turn of the the ptt (tx) knop of in the menu, so you don,t exedantely hit the ptt knop.

I have the FTA-250L (and a CAA ROCC for Air-Ground Radio Service)... You can lock out the Transmit function from the menus... Gives you a very usable dedicated airband receiver, without the risk of an accidental transmission, should you wish to limit it to receive only (completely reversible of course).

Leeds Bradford Airport is prone to grotty weather in autumn and winter. Radio failure definitely a nuisance in these conditions!

In the United States IMO: there should be a test in order to use the air band frequencies on an individual license basis at a PSA testing facility...these airlines personnel are a joke when it comes to using the radio! i.e copy this and copy that does not work
@Martin_LynchАй бұрын
I'm sure no license needed for RX, but Yes, I'm pre-historic enough to have taken a separate Radio test and license when I did my original PPL :-)
