My good friend Joel, KC4WZB, loaned me his brand new Yaesu FTdx10. When I say loaned, I mean he picked it up at Ham Radio Outlet and brought it straight to me, so I could unbox it and shoot a series of videos, exploring the capabilities of this latest offering from Yaesu.
This is the third in a series of videos I will be producing to show the capabilities of the Yaesu FTdx10. In this video we explore the band-stacking feature in the FTdx10.
Note: The band-stack cycling was changed after firmware V01-04, which is the version I have. For subsequent versions you will need to tap Band and then press the Function knob, in quick succession.
Subscribe and click the notification bell to ensure that you don’t miss the other videos in this series. I will be covering TX audio settings, CW operation, memory channels, accessing the 60-meter band channels, and more, in this series.
I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful. Band-stacking is great. If your FTdx10 has firmware newer than V01-04, you will tap the Band button and then, within a couple of seconds, press the Function knob. That will cycle through each of the three band stack registers for the band you are tuned to.

@@n4hnhradio Just a little addition to the info you've provided. I was just poking about on my FTDX10 and found that each VFO has its own band stack register, so technically you have 6 registers between the two VFOs. A couple of days ago, we set up different noise filters for each band I asked you if you could save it, Thank you for your very kind explanation. The answer could be found in the function of band stacking. In fact, Icom IC-736, the old league I'm currently using, has the same functionality. If you press the shortcut button for each band, there are two types of I know it stores different frequencies This function is called [band-stacking] I got to know the term for the first time. Once again, thank you, The FTDX-10 is not the best walkie-talkie in existence, It's the latest model in my financial situation It has all the functions that I want There is no doubt that. The Yaesu FTdx10 has the 2nd best receiver in the world, second only to the FTdx101D or FTdx101MP. Band-stacking has been included with Yaesu transceivers since the late 1990s. But the newer models have triple band-stacking. My late 1990s Yaesu has double band-stacking.

Sam, I’m on a time limit with the FTdx10, so let me give you some insight into the buttons to the right of the VFO, in the mean time, before I can shoot a video. The A>B copies the frequency, mode, filters, etc. from the VFO A to VFO B. The AB button moves the frequency, mode, filters, etc. from VFO A to VFO B and vice versa. It essentially flips the two VFO settings. The V/M button switches between VFO mode and memory mode. I shot a video about how to cycle through the memory channels. Switch to Memory mode and long press the Band/MCH button, above the Clarifier/VFO B knob, until the LED lights yellow. You can now rotate the Clarifier/VFO B knob to cycle through the memories,. Tapping the V/M button can also return to a memory channel if you happened to have tuned the VFO knob after selecting a memory channel. Note that the 60m band channels are preprogrammed into memory positions 5-01 through 5-10, for the U.S. market. The M>A button copies the currently selected memory channel data into VFO A. The A>M does the reverse of the M>A button, it writes the frequency, mode, filters, etc. that are in VFO to whichever memory slot is currently selected. I will try to shoot a video showing each of these buttons in action, as soon as I finish with the loaner FTdx10. 73, Doug

Hi Pasquale! If your FTdx10 came with V01-10 installed, you shouldn’t use an older version. There can be minor differences in the hardware of a newer transceiver that makes the older firmware incompatible. Yaesu doesn’t even make the older firmware available for that reason. So the best we can do is write to Yaesu via their Contact Us page and request the original band-stacking procedure, from V01-04, that allows us to cycle through the band-stack registers by simply double-tapping the Band button. 73, Doug

Hey @n4hnhradio I know this is an older video, but... Do you know if there is a way to put 'band stops' on the FTdx10? In other words, as a General can I set a marker or beep or something at the bottom and top of, for example, the phone portion of each band?
@n4hnhradio
@n4hnhradio 10 ай бұрын
You can set a lower limit and a span. You must select from the span options that are available. For 80m SSB, it works out perfectly. You can set the lower limit to 3.8MHz and the span to 200kHz. But for 40m you set the lower limit to 7.175MHz, for General class, but you need a 125kHz span. There is no 125kHz span option. You just have to know your operating privileges. You cannot create multiple ranges, as in one for your CW limits and another for your SSB limits, with a gap between them. The IC-7300 allows you to set 4 band edge limits per band. It is a good rig for someone who is still learning. Yaesu places more emphasis on performance while ICOM places more emphasis on ease of use.

@n4hnhradio
@n4hnhradio 3 жыл бұрын
@John Tudor yes, the buttons are around the VFO. That’s why I locked the VFO. You don’t really need to use these buttons very often. You don’t even need to use the Band button once you program a favorite CW, SSB, AM, FM frequency for each band into memory. I hardly ever touch the Band button on my FT-891, because I use memories. Once I dial up a memory, which has mode, filters, etc. set, I just move the VFO off that frequency if I want to use another frequency. You can always use the touchscreen to make changes if you don’t want to use the buttons. 73, de N4HNH

Can you delete a band stack register ?
@n4hnhradio
@n4hnhradio 2 жыл бұрын
The band stack registers update automatically to the last state you left them in. If you have one set at 7.150 LSB, and you change it to 7.155, have a QSO, and go to another band, when you tap the 7m button again, you will return to 7.155 MHz LSB. The bandstack registers start out with a frequency and mode set from Yaesu. For example, 7.000 LSB for the 40m band. You could set all three registers for the 7 MHz button back to 7.000 MHz LSB, but there is no delete button. There is also no save button. The bandstack registers function and update automatically, in the background. 73, de N4HNH

I tend not to install updates until they have been out for a while. But I’ve heard of the issue you are speaking about. It’s a trade-off when they pack so much into a radio this size. Not enough room for individual band buttons, like the 101, 5000, etc. But I programmed a CW, 2 SSB, and an AM per band into memory. Plus I programmed in the 10 meter FM frequencies and most common 6 meter frequencies/modes. That’s the way I operate my FT-891. I can recall a memory and tune away, with all filters, etc. preset. 73, de N4HNH

@@n4hnhradio I didn’t upgrade my old kenwood ts-480 for 15 years because the features listed weren’t helpful to me. His death was natural, honorable, and peaceful and was not due to a lack of update. The description of the FTDX10 update was so clumsy that I didn’t understand everything about it (maybe just me). I didn’t even see the need for an update for a working band button and the description was bad. The waterfall is a little more pleasing to the eye as it is never empty. The upgrade may be useful if you are into FT8 (you don't even have to use the band button). Yes indeed! I put that request in last year, as soon as 01-06 was released and it was reported that we would need to press the Band button and then press the Function knob to cycle through each band-stack. I guess not enough of us have requested to go back to simply double-tapping the Band button. Yaesu changes things we don’t ask for and doesn’t do what we ask for. They are very frustrating. But, their transceivers are still so good that I tolerate it. I shouldn’t have to tolerate it. So you might have noticed in my videos that I haven’t updated my firmware. I still haven’t. And I haven’t had even one issue with my FTdx10. The things that could be done to improve the FTdx10 are simple firmware improvements. Allow us to right-click the mouse to open the Function menu. Click on a digit in the frequency display and scroll the mouse wheel to change frequency. Right-click over the frequency shown in the display to pop up the band select screen. We can already click the Mode indication in the display to get the popup menu to select a different mode. We should be able to do that with Band. Allow a custom Span option, so we can set the span of the scope to display only the portion of spectrum that our license allows. We need to inundate Yaesu with these improvement requests, via their "Contact Us" web page. I was told by a Yaesu employee that the Contact Us page is the best method for communicating requests to Yaesu in Japan. 73, de N4HNH

Yes, I showed the band-stacking steps, as they were last Spring, when I shot this video. I was running firmware version 01-04. I am still running 01-04. I won’t update mine because they changed the band-stack procedure in all subsequent versions. I’m not interested in FT8 and the 3 second timeout for the Band and Mode popups doesn’t bother me. So, I chose not to update my firmware. Your firmware might require that you press band and then press the Function knob. Each time you press the pair the VFO will cycle to the next band stack register. There are 3 registers and then it starts over. I prefer being able to double-tap the Band button to cycle through the band-stack registers, the way it worked in firmware version 01-04. I don’t know why Yaesu thought they should change it.
