I've got thr VX-6r and it's great for airband! It's actually as sensitive as my Icom A20, which is an airband radio. 73, G1DRP

about the belt clip its designed for to stay on your belt at all times u just turn the handset upside down and it comes free while the clip stays on belt and not on the set itself

I just got a VX 7R yesterday for $20. I like the radio the problem is how do you turn the tone squelch off? I don’t know if you know this or not if you do the free band modification it will allow you to transmit on 220 also I got this radio through an estate. what kind of antenna were you using for 70 MHz?

Do you have any suggestions for a starter radio for a 16 year old who doesn't have a large amount to spend on one?

I own an vx7r but I cannot transmit on 70Mhz amateur band - It says txt error! I take it this is a optional mod that needs to be done. I'm going to look at the manual to see the coverage it has, ain't used mine much but probably the best handheld I own..

I found one of these at a tent campsite in the woods... I guess the guys were away fishing or taking a piss or something... they must of forgot it was on... but i hear someone talk on it and found it... I couldn't get it to dial any telephone numbers, so I threw it away in the bushes on the walk back home... Haha, gotcha ;-)
