The 1st girl, Asuka Hara, is only 9 years old and danced with incredible poise, grace, artistry, and technique. Beautiful straight back and straight legs, excellent pointe, high energy, graceful port de bras, high jumps, and sweet expression to match her piece. Bravo little Fairy doll!💖👍👍👍-Love, A fellow ballet dancer😊

agreed, I'm not sure I like that doing that variation is allowed in this competition even not on point (it's for 16+ at Prix de Lausanne, not 14 and 15 year olds), but she did an extremely good job of it

I noticed her too! They are all brilliant, but she and the first girl were my favorites. Impressive technique and lovely expressions to match!
@Star3marie304
@Star3marie304 3 жыл бұрын
@@cmilus892 Oh yes! I feel the same way:) The very first young dancer was so technically astute for being only 9 years old, and it was her charming personality that fit the innocent & youthful Fairy Doll variation she performed to a T. There are some dancers who may have good technique, but they lack in their acting abilities & facial expressions, and sadly it really shows when they dance in front of an audience. I will never forget what one of my first serious ballet teachers taught us-that a dancer's onstage presence and ability to get into character is just as important as technique(if not more) because at the end of the day, dancing is a Performing Art, you have to go onstage before an audience and perform, not just execute steps. And not only that, but almost all of my coaches would remind us students that when we go onstage to perform, the majority of the audience will NOT be professional dancers or teachers or ballet experts, and so if we maintain good stage presence and use facial expressions to match our onstage roles, if we mess up or forget a little step or something, the audience most likely won't notice it. It's funny because as a serious young ballet student, it's often nerve wracking performing in front of an audience, especially your first few bigger, more legitimate performances, you know the ones I mean, the performances not at high schools or community centers(though nothing is wrong with shows that are performed there! Every dancer has to start somewhere) but I mean the shows that start taking place in real theatres and concert halls, and gradually get a bit more upscale as you continue working hard and advancing and moving up, so do the arenas you dance in, and along with that also comes classier clientele who will gladly pay a higher priced box office ticket because these audiences are now also getting more upscale, which means they have more money to spend, and also means they are more likely to care more seriously about the art of ballet and will be a bit more cultured perhaps. Still, I remember my teacher saying, "don't let this fancier auditorium/theatre unnerve you. Just concentrate on your variations and don't forget to have fun," she would remind us. She would also say "no matter what, even if you forget an entire 16 count of your piece or if your hairpiece God forbid falls out during your pique turns and jetés and flies across the stage, keep smiling. No matter what, just keep smiling. "Don't get me wrong", she would say next with a slightly menacing tone " I expect nothing less than perfection from each of you. You all have worked so hard for so long on this show and it would be an utter shame if it did not go as we have rehearsed. "But," she would say, now a bit softer, "accidents can and do happen, even if every rehearsal has gone perfectly. I'm not saying this to make you anxious. This is to relax you so you won't absolutely freak out and break character or run off stage or freeze. Remember to use your beautiful faces," and then she would conclude, saving the most important words for last, on purpose, of course, "If you use your facial expressions the way me and your teachers have taught you, the vast majority of the audience will be too focused looking at your FACES and your EXPRESSIONS and they will be so intent on the story you are trying to tell, that if you do make a mistake in your footwork, do not let it show on your face. Do not let them know that you messed up. You have to stay in character every second you are onstage. Remember that you are not just a dancer, you all are blossoming into skilled and talented artists. You are an entertainer." That gave me goosebumps, the good kind. A mixture of nerves and excitement and adrenaline. Okay, let's go, I thought. If I must wait any longer to perform, I may very well throw up right here in the rehearsal hall and pass out. I was ready. The audience should FEEL something after you dance, my ballet teacher would say to us, whether it's excitement or sadness, inspiration or a connection to your performance on a deeper level 🤗 Of course there will always be those few especially gifted dancers who are also natural actresses- they often are "triple threats" and acting comes quite easy to them and they enjoy it and it shows. But, like many teaching professionals in the dance community will tell you, acting and having stage presence is something that is common for a lot of dancers to struggle with. It must be taught and taught seriously as part of a budding ballerina's dance education. Just like important "specialty" classes and workshops such as nutrition for dancers, injury prevention, pilates, French, and ballet history, acting workshops specifically for dancers and specialty sometimes weeklong acting courses geared for pre-professional dancers (sometimes over the summer) are highly encouraged by ballet teachers because they know just how valuable acting skills are to any dancer who is serious about a performing career.👌

@@kamille2927 awards were out(seattle) and i got top twelve for contempoary but literally i got beat by a 9 year old who's variation kinda looked like her runnin around for ballet. I think it was only because her music stopped but she kept going but im still really sad.

"En pointe" is French, pronounced "ohn pwahn", meaning "on tip". "On point" is an English expression for "perfect, exactly right, flawless". It is easy to mix up "en pointe" and "on point".

Correct! We work hard to make sure our pointe technique is on point! (and grammar, too) 👍
