Robert, you're the reason i ended up getting into Kayak fishing... Couldn'tget a boat so i eneded up starting with a beginner sit on top kayak and within six months penny pinched and upgraded to a Hobie Compass 3 months later.. Absolutely fell in love with it. Moved to the northern tip of Vancouver Island and have loved every minute on the water. Ask anyone and any decent day with sub 30km winds, rain or shine, I'm out there on the water! know my about 25km of water around me like the back of my hand now in maybe 5 months. I can't wait to get down there to Loz Buzos and kill it out there. Looks like tons of fun and i'm so looking forward to meeting the crew down there and spending a week on the water! Thank you so much for inspiring me! Fish on brother!

I love your videos. Wish I could fish with you some time. Thankyou for explaining how you fish, how deep you go, how to vertical jig, the bait. Could you also sow if you use weights and how far from the hook you have your weight. This is a part I question for myself at times
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 2 жыл бұрын
We use weights for certain live baits that are too slow/weak to get down deeper. Usually 2 ounces and a good 6-8 feet from the hook. We use an egg sinker above the swivel so it can slide up when a big fish eats the bait, so it hopefully won’t feel the weight

The schooling fish if Jack I've seen it. Pretty impressive, I was with my wife on a tandem and we paddled right over the top of a massive school that looked like the inside of a well. The fish lined the outside and went down for a long ways easily over 50 feet down. Must of been hundreds of small to mid size Jack. Great video, I miss Los Buzos.

Robert this is David I have a legitimate question for you I have paddled a few times in the ocean and experienced tides but I plan on going to South Carolina this summer and they typically have really bad riptides in the summertime how do you deal with riptide in a kayak can you safely fish in the ocean? And do the riptides affect your kayak?
@Bryantcaruk1
@Bryantcaruk1 2 жыл бұрын
David, Tides generally aren't the main concern depending on where you are. If they're really fast, make sure to consult a tide map and check conditions the day before you plan to go. If you know you're going to be going into a fast current, be aware that if you're paddling with the current, it's going to be twice as hard to get back. 30mins with the current means at LEAST 60mins back. and that's assuming you're not resting. if your kayak is pretty stable you'll be okay in the ocean with waves etc. If you can handle decent boat wakes, you're probably okay. Generally with a riptide, you want to go perpendicular to the rip. trying to fight directly against it is a nightmare... i've been caught in a couple surprisingly fast currents out of nowhere and seemingly making no progress. If you aren't making any progress , try 90 degrees towards to the shore. if you can butt RIGHT up against the shore, generally currents aren't as bad and worst case you can (terrain allowing) beach yourself and call for help. i do 90% of my fishing in ocean and it's all up to your comfort level. Start with the calm days where the water is like glass and work your way up. Keep in mind that circling an island, the water can be VERY different on one side or the other. If conditions get rough, turn around, don't get caught in the "I can get through it, it'll only get better" just to start being thrown around and potentially flipping. Stay safe and fish on!
@YakFishField
@YakFishField 2 жыл бұрын
Riptides head straight out from the beach. Whether in a kayak or swimming, to get out of a riptide simply head either direction parallel to the beach. They tend to be relatively narrow.

@YakFishField
@YakFishField 2 жыл бұрын
Not a single ounce of fish was wasted. And killing a big breeder female is much worse than killing a juvenile. You are uneducated on the subject, but I forgive you. If you really want to protest something to protect our fisheries and oceans, go gripe at the commercial fishermen. They kill more fish globally every second than we have since we opened the lodge 6 years ago. Pick your battles my friend. We are not the problem

The only reason i watch this channel is because i love panama, but dam Rob is an annoying human, please explain to me how long until this small area you guys keep fishing and killing until the edible fish are non existent? I give it 5 years. Learn some conservation! And stop trying to teach people how to fish, most guys that come to fish there know how to fish. Nothing worse than a back seat driver!!!
