Nobody NEEDS a V8, it is a want. I get that a V8 is smooth but a good V6 or inline 6 can do the same job.

Prior, the V8 was the way to go. A V12, even more Silky smooth and thrustfull. sic. Lexus compensated by developing a more robust V-6 which generates more power than the prior V8. + performance augmentation through turbo charging. I suspect it reduced the weight of the engine thus the load on the front suspension which should provides better handling and fuel economy. The engine is not under full load utilizing the turbos continuously hence a smaller engine doesn’t have to work as hard all the time, ++ Environmental considerations + increased efficiency. ( gas’s guzzler tax) = Attitudinal shift.

@@MrMrremmington Also, the advantage of the turbo V6 engine is you don't need V8 for cruising. But you have plenty of power during the acceleration when needed. The turbo kicked in hard. MB with V12, it turned off 4 pistons during highway cruising.

What? There is nothing sports car like about a base 7-Series or S-Class. Are you kidding? Have you ever driven these cars? You don't seem to understand that this level that "adequate" is not enough, which is why it doesn't sell. You think a S-Class or A8 doesn't provide "serenity", when both have been designed for it? The infotainment is only one of the LS' problems, no V8 as you say is one also, but the biggest problem is that the overall package is not compelling in any way anymore. It doesn't ride like the old LS models, it's cramped for it's size, and the design doesn't look the part unless you get a F Sport model. It's also overpriced and the tech is outdated by about 5 years at least. Lexus doesn't build a pure luxury car with the LS anymore, they tried to go sporty and failed miserably. It doesn't even ride as good as the W222 or W223 S-Class. You seem to have no clue what you're talking about.

That's why mercedes' prime was the mid 80s to mid 90s when they were purely focused on luxury and quality

@@MercOne true, i love Lexus and had older models, they werent outdated. But now they are. i wouldnt get lexus now as any other german cars have newer tech inside. For example i had is250 from 2006 with touch screen. There wasnt any german car with touch screen back then.

2013-2020 i agree but im not a fan of how the current S class looks. interior/tech is still top tier though. if its between the S500 and LS500 id take the LS. but if you're forking extra $ for the S580 with the Twin turbo V8...well im a sucker for that engine.

@@larrywexner4163 Yes the S580 is a very nice engine. I have a 2015 S550. My initial view of the W-223S class was as you described however after sitting in both the new S class and the new LS the S class still feels a notch above what the LS offers even though both are very nice vehicles. I believe it comes down to a personal preference… You can’t go wrong with either. Of course the Lexus will win in the reliability column but fit and finish along with well-thought-out features the S class wins hands-down.

@@sufall96 It also depends on if your buying or leasing. A S500/S550 would be a great least option, you hand it back after 3 years when the warranty is almost up and the big problems show up. A Lexus is something you might want to buy. As if you take care of it, they are normally very, very dependable... It dpends on if you plan on holding on to a car for 3 years, or 10 years.... No question the LS500 is a very nice car but, if you want top tech, you want a flagship Benz.... Still kind of shocked in 2022, the LS500 does not offer wireless Android Auto or Apple Carplay... A entry level car from 2 years ago had it...

I also own an S550 and traded in my LS460 for it. 12 years total driving both vehicles now, and looking for my next vehicle. Loved my Lexus LS460, and wife is on her second ES350, but we both agreed that the Mercedes S550 is the best vehicle we have ever owned in terms of ride, quiet, performance, luxury, comfort, styling, etc. Not as reliable as my LS460, of course, but much better tech and safety systems than her newer Lexus. I do pay more to maintain my S550 as all parts and service cost more than Lexus equivalents, but as long as one is as obsessive about maintenance as I am you will have a reliable car. 76K miles and NO breakdowns on the road. Yes some recalls early on and CD changer went out at 70K (real challenge to replace this!) but we had confidence to take 4000 mile trip out West before Covid and would do so again.

Better leather, insulation, more comfort, speed is there when you need it, it’s the full package. Btw I’m only 30 years old

I had 2001 LS430 in the past.... the sticking steering wheel motor problem happened to me as well... it was a common problem with the LS430..

It’s the most reliable automobile since the history of the automobile, lol it’s true. I also bought an 2010 LS 460 L all-wheel-drive. Ultrapremium luxury, package. A unique executive package without the bolster dividing the two seats, more like the Toyota Century as it has the large TV/DVD/CD at the rear between the seats. I love both cars. I didn’t sell the LS 430 because so many people wrote about wishing they kept it after they had purchased the LS 460. I thought, why wait and see. The LS 430 is the Daily driver. LS 460, it’s for a special and when it snows a lot, lol. Only when it’s fresh snow as they don’t salt very quickly in my little town lol.

@@MrMrremmington I've been through most LS models.... I've had a 1996 LS400, a 2001 LS430, a 2007 LS460L and I currently own a 2014 LS460 (that is very loaded with AWD and Dynamic Cruse). All the cars have been very reliable over all, they have their known issues but, over all best cars I have ever owned. The LS430 is just getting very dated looking now, but, I agree it was a very smooth car, the big thing with the 430 is the timing belt, if it breaks, bye bye motor, and to replace it (every 60K-90k or so), it's a big job, need to pull most of the front of the motor apart to get to it. Even small shops would charge around $1200-1500 to do it and dealer, expect a $4-5K job.. In the LS460 they moved to a timing chain, that does not really need anything. I love the 2014, I even added Android Auto(the infotainment system was dated on the day it was released) and Remote start ... If the tires are in great shape, as long as the snow does not go over the wheel wells, I can get through it, it sticks to the road like glue. I do wish it was a L due to the space of the back seat but, the deal I got on before covid, let's just say if someone hit me and totaled it, I would see close to $20K extra.... First car I have made money on....LOL

I had an ES 350 FWD HATED itr so much I traded it back 4 months later for a GS 350 AWD and 18 months later I traded it in for my LS 460 L AWD and this is a keeper The IS is terrible when compared to the Subaru Legacy

its probably noticeably sluggish compared to its competitors. lexus definitely would’ve been better off just supercharging the car because at least it would still be nippy and eager

the only thing that is relevant is power to weight ratio, the actual engine response in modern twin turbo engines is not the same as it used to be decades back, turbo lag is almost gone.

i often switch from driving a land cruiser 200, and 2 mercedes, the throttle response on the mercs is horrendous, i could mash the throttle and nothing would happen, I imagine that is what driving the new LS would feel like. But the upside of the lexus is that is has direct injection

I drove a 2013 LS460 and 2013 GS a year ago, and can tell you the LS is on another level. Wider, longer, quieter, more solid. I bought the LS.

Theres nothing to market in the first place, technology in the Lexus is outdated compared to Germans and new car buyers dont care about the reliability because pretty much all cars are reliable brand new and covered under warranty. This car is only for the small minority of people who prefer an older-style luxury car which Lexus happens to offer, vast majority of people don't want that. If they want to actually compete properly, they would have to redesign the whole thing and update the tech and ofcourse marketing :) I think this Lexus would sell quite popular if they turned into an EV or hydrogen power like the Mirai.
