Fun Fact - Kenzan was only developed in 10 months, on a console that was difficult to develop for it's design and impressive for an early PS3 game and the first in HD.

This game's got such a mid 2000s time capsule vibe. Feels like those days when I'd marathon entire anime seasons as a young teen.

I love Kenzan so much. I even got a physical copy of it not too long ago and Im so happy about it. Its honestly one of the most unique experiences in the series and I wish it got a remaster and a localization.

I love this game so much. Cant even explain why exactly. It has a beautiful atmosphere; simple,but very engaging story.Its simplicity has its own charm.(for me at least) The cutscenes still hold up. I want a remake,on UE5 or upgraded Dragon Engine so badly,but I doubt it will ever happen

As someone who has actually beaten the game, I did enjoy the story. It’s not the best, but as a history buff it appealed to me in a similar way that Ishin did I also love how you learn all your abilities through engaging with the side content, it made it so much more rewarding than a skill tree

Oh, I had the red tint issue as well, it’s actually very easy to fix Go into custom config and instead of changing the default resolution, keep it 1280x720 and instead use the resolution scaling below it to scale it to 1080p, that fixed it for me

Great video, it’s interesting to learn a bit more about this game that has more or less been forgotten, outside the die hard fan community of RGG’s games. It’d be cool to see a remake, but I don’t think we will and I don’t blame the studio for it either. It’s totally fair. Shout out the sick SOP Gilgamesh theme though!

This game is amazing. I finished it about a year ago and still remember it fondly. The progression is very satisfying (it actually feels like your learning skills lol) as well as the gameplay, and the open world was gorgeous as well. The story was pretty okay, but the actual long battles SLAP.

I bought it 2 months ago for 10€ and I really liked it. Egomaniac's guide was a great help (bless that man)

I just started playing Kenzan and with the help of Khhsubs' translations and some guides and aside from some of the bad touch elements the story has, I've been enjoying it and writing notes on the story. Great video as always.

there is an English patch to this game coming soon, but the team have been really taking their time with it. Idk what reason that is because Kurohyou 1/2 have been translated fairly quickly but this one hasn't. Also, good video. Kenzan is in my top 3 for story and gameplay.

Kinda hope we get a remastered collection of these spin off Yakuza games like we did with 3, 4, and 5. I would very much pay for a remasterd spinoff collection that has Kenzan, Dead Souls, and Kurohyou 1, and 2.

Oh so nice to see a well made video on Kenzan! Imported the game and started playing it a few weeks ago after finishing Ishin! on PS5. I gottta say I'm surprised how much I'm enjoying RGG Kenzan even though there's a massive language barrier.

Just a note emulation is not piracy, downloading the "ROM" (aka the disk-image) is. (So if you know how to make a disk image for the game you want to emulate, you're not breaking any laws)

About the camera, you could control it in Yakuza 2 but not 1, and they added that for 1 in the remaster, but Kenzan did improve the camera though.

Here's hoping this gets a fanmade translation patch because remake's pretty unlikely at this point, at least not in the next few years.

The funniest thing is that Kenzan has the perfect combat system for Ichiban, should he be in a brawler combat game, considering his wide array of weaponry and such from all of the classes.

I think their next games after Infinite Wealth will be Judge Eyes 3 and probably Kenzan Kiwami, with the announce this year or early 2025.

All 5 Kenzan fans (I'm included in that) really appreciate you touching upon the game that everyone, whether you're a western fan or not, just forgets exist. Anyway I guess it's time for me to make a video going over the entire story of Kenzan or something as it's pretty interesting (I much prefer it to Ishin's tbh)

To be honest, it had one of the best stories in the series, even though the gameplay was even worse than the first game for the ps2. I'm not fluent at japanese, but the whole journey got me gripped. What's complicated about actually completing the game, though, is the ammount of "hidden" content that was common in that era.

I didn't know this game exists. Hope it gets remade like Ishin...

Yokohama denied a Dead Soul remake but went on to mention to say a Kenzan remake is not out of the question. Although if they did remake he says it’ll be more a remaster than remake. Which basically what Yakuza Ishin’s remake did. Which might’ve work for Ishin because Yakuza 5 and Yakuza 0 still holds up but Kenzan is older Yakuza 3. I would’ve liked a full on remake like Kiwami 2 but with the combat improvements of Gaiden but here we are.

I never played Kenzan, but the gameplay looks better than Ishin for me. Probably because I loved Yakuza 3-5 and this just feels like them. Ishin remake I was let down with.

look, if dance with the butterfly (the epic spanish song) sounds bad, then the entirety of kenzan kiwami fucking sucks also i really like how the characters look, like yeah its kiryu and majima, but theyre different enough that i can genuinely believe theyre different people i know its probably because that they did a crap job, but its way better than 1:1 face usage, it was a semi problem to me in ishin, but its just me being a petty bastaed

I actually hope you manage to complete your playthrough of Kenzan so you can give a story analysis video of some sort, because honestly, the misinformation has to stop. Also it's probably a good enough story for a Yakuza game anyway.

The fact you admitted to never finishing the story to Kenzan! and just said "I did a lot of research" and don't really talk about it seems really disrespectful to it. On top of the fact you don't really go in-depth with the mechanics and just gloss over everything in the span of a couple minutes, and mostly just mention how "Yeah this game is only in Japanese and the only real way to play nowadays it is to emulate it unless you manage to get a ps3 copy." The game takes a good amount of inspiration from some of the books and stories of Musashi and a lot of it is really interesting, taking some inspirations and adding new things to it or just changing it you glossed over entirely. Changes like how Gion wasn't really all that important in the book, the waterfall minigame and story to that, or just how Musashi in real life was a really dirty fighter and would literally angle himself while dueling an enemy so the sun would get in their eyes to get an edge in battle. You say you do a ton of research but don't actually explain anything about the story, it just seems like you went through the first 4 chapters of this game for the video and stopped because it's not in English. Which that's fair, yeah, but if you're going to make a entire video about Kenzan! you should really put in more of an effort since this is one of the least talked about RGG games that exists and one of the harder ones to get into. This whole video just seems like you made a bunch of cliff notes while playing then just put it out so you can get done with talking about this game and acknowledged it exists.

I Dont Like This Video

I'm someone who has played kenzan, its easily my least favorite rgg game (having played all of them except either Ishins, Either Kurohyou, or FotNS). I didn't like navigating the overworld, I didn't like any of the move sets, nd the story was okay but weaker than almost everything else in the series IMO. I'd prefer they not make kiwami games in general, but if kenzan did get a kiwami game I seriously doubt it would be well recieved no matter what they did.
