Sir... I'm not sure how they do things in South Africa... By the way I've been in South Africa wonderful people wonderful country. But if that happened here in Arizona USA... and it were I... one of those people would have been looking at the wrong end of a Glock 19... I have been running a volunteer rescue service since 1958... Still didn't hear what exactly failed in the motor? What parts were laid on the table? I can tell you this - I've been running a flashed Yamaha SHO for 300hrs and not a single hiccup. 93octane, keep the fuel system clean and it runs as it did the day I bought it. Now, I'm sure there are different companies offering tunes and maybe you encountered a file that wasn't quite right. In the grand scheme of things, all a flash is doing is manipulating the timing and fuel curves to move the power band and spread it out over a broader rpm range. Sucks it blew on you, regardless. Now, don't be let down with the lower unit under that V8Merc takes a crap....

Hello Captain Barbosa. You have a nice looking Triton Bass Boat , Sorry to hear about your Yamaha SHO. In My Opinion I think when you had the Outboard motor Chipped , I think that was what caused the Outboard to Detonate the way it did. That is sad that Yamaha and their team did not want to help you whether it was chipped or not. You had been a Long time Loyal customer and this is how they say Thank you for your Loyalty to they're brand , No Thanks ! Time to look for Another Outboard motor brand. A word of Advice though. Whatever brand of Outboard you decide to go with , I don't think I would have it chipped or have Any Modifications done to it other than maybe a prop upgrade. Best of luck to you !

Sad deal sir. All manufacturers have turned this direction. Only one company that I trust is Basscat. And I buy and sell 20-30 bass boats a year. Many being Yamaha sho. Luckily no issues so far like this but I run them hard before buying and do new fuel and injectors regardless. Flashing these motors is crazy and will cause internal heat displacement Idc what anyone says. Bad move with a sho for sure.

Yamaha injectors are known for issues with ethanol I bet your tune didn’t help but I bet you had sticky injectors and it leaned out or over fueled and caused the issues

In my line of work I hear complaints about motors, specifically bass boat motors. In my unsolicited professional opinion, the flashing or manipulation of the Yamaha produced the failure. Because someone deceived you, you in turn are presenting this video to the public. Modifications of any kind void the Yamaha warranty. Despite the fact your unit was out of warranty does not change the logic that the increased performance you enjoyed was at a risk to you. I'd like to know if that conversation was at the corporate level of Yamaha or it was at the dealer / distributor level? Yamaha in my opinion wouldn't give the time of day after a motor was manipulated. That is not their design. Why would it be their problem? Hope you resolved the issue. I feel badly for your situation nonetheless.

Did you flash the ECU?

That is the reason why Toyota engines outlast other brands; they UNDER-POWER their engines.Anytime you OVERPOWER the engine, you cut the lifespan of the engine by years.In this case:hundreds of hours.A simple scientific fact.In my humble opinion, the upping of the engine performance was the culprit.Look at any racing car: serviced by the best mechanics and fitted by the best engine parts, yet it's engine get rebuild after only a few races.Higher performance will most definitely lead to premature failure.

Sorry for your bad luck and very poor response from yamaha. The early hpdi motors were horrible!
