I love how the keys feel on the S55; feels like ivory. Better than any other Yamaha models for sure.

Yes, there are some really great keytop surfaces coming out these days. Long gone are the days of keyboards in the 90s with slidy plastic!

Hi Tim. I’m seriously considering the S55 model. Have you tried or seen the cabinet YDP-165 to compare? I think I prefer the look and slim style of the S55 and figure that there is very little other difference. Thanks.

There is very little other difference. I didn’t explore the cabinet version but the pics give you a good idea of it. I think the slim is a bit more modern tbh

which cables do i need to connect my piano to my iphone/ipad. could you explain again please? i’m lost

Hi! Thanks for your interest in this Arius S55! For this instrument you'll need a USB type B to type A cable and then a USB type A to Lightning (or USB C if your device uses that) adaptor.

Shame that no have bluetooth for this price. VRM is present on ydp 145 and s35 too.

Can this export your playing to midi for use in a program like Garage Band?

Hrmmm I’m not sure. It’s midi compatible so hopefully possible. Maybe best to speak to a Yamaha dealer

Hi Leatherlips, in case you still needed an answer for this... yes it does! The Arius range of digital pianos all will do MIDI over USB connection, so they will work with Garage Band when your instrument is connected to the iPad/Computer via cable.

the feel of the keys on this model very different from an acoustic piano? I'm afraid to start learning and playing with him and then find the weight of the acoustic piano keys strange. Thanks for the video.

Hi Max. It's pretty authentic, but you'll notice the difference. If you're only just starting out, I don't expect it will be an issue for you - only when you get to the more complex music.

@@max.1981 Regarding Yamaha website, you can record 1 song (2 tracks, left hand and overdubbing right hand, for example), 100 Kb max. Anyway, I record my practise through Smart Pianist, unlimited number of song, only limited by the storage capacity of my iphone/iPad.

This has only "VRM Lite", not "VRM". My guess is that the difference between those won't be small, but huge, so no complex algorithms, but something very simplistic. This is from expecience with Yamaha's "Super Articulation Lite" on other instruments, which is a joke, not using any algorithms at all unlike the real "Super Articulation".
