Good news! Finally completed the review of my new piano. Sorry it took so long, but I was very thorough, and the beastly thing turned out to be over an hour and my laptop repeatedly refused to render it as a whole😂, so I had to cut it into 4 parts: 1.Action. 2.Sound+ musical examples. 3.Features. 4.Cabinet, Resume + Comparison. So it is another (unintentional) mini-series.😆This way will also be easier for you to choose the parts you are most interested in, in case you do not want to watch the entire series:) Enjoy!
Part 2 content:
0:00 Intro
0:18 Main Sound Samples
3:17 Touch Change Options
3:48 CFX Scale
5:03 Bösendorfer Scale
5:48 Mozart Piano Scale
7:10 Chopin Piano Scale
8:16 Musical Examples Mozart Piano
9:30 Examples Chopin Piano
10:34 Examples CFX Grand
12:08 Examples Bösendorfer
13:42 Tone Comparison
14:40 Dynamics: response gradation to touch
I tried to include all the information that I feel competent at delivering and consider important in choosing a digital piano. I hope this information will be of help to some of you, while you might be choosing an instrument without getting an access to it in person before buying.
Best of luck!

I recently bought a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-745. It's a marvelous musical instrument, and has been a game-changer for me as a novice/intermediate piano player. Now I look forward to sitting down and practicing. It makes everything sound so resonant that I feel like practicing more to bring out the best I can in the music. I learned some useful things from this excellent video that I did not know before about my CLP-745.

Daria, you have the most genuine, unbiased reviews that I so very much enjoy. You’re playing is amazing and sublime. Please continue giving more reviews as we sincerely enjoy immensely. I wanted to get the Yamaha AvantGrand N1x however, after calling Yamaha Australia I was advised that I will have to wait for at least over one year to get one so I’ll be getting the Yamaha Clavinova CVP-809GP which should arrive around November hopefully.

Wow great review! I've been taking lessons for 6 months and want to splurge on a new digital piano, but I think I'll keep on taking lessons for another year before upgrading. I have a friend's old acoustic piano, but I don't like keeping up with the tuning so I think a digital piano is in my future. I also like the MIDI capability of this CLP.

Hi Daria - those chords sounded amazing for being a digital. If you had to choose between a smaller upright, such as a Yamaha B2/B3 and a high-end digital like the 745 (or higher), based purely on sound and touch, which would you choose?

love your channel! You are very talented! I have a question! Is the clavinova 745 much better than the 735? Do the 745's wooden keys make much of a difference?
@Dariafortepiano
@Dariafortepiano 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Max, thank you for your nice feedback about my channel! About your question, the clp 735 also has wooden white keys, but the action is previous generation. Same as p515 model. So the difference between 735 and 745 is the type of action. I mention is in the action part of the video series. There is a comparison between p515 and clp 745. 745 has more refined response, if we are speaking bery basic terms. But the weight I like better on 735 model. It seems more satisfying, is feels heavier. 735 feels lighter. But you might like a lighter one, it is a preference after all. Hope this helps.

@Dariafortepiano
@Dariafortepiano Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment and question! I have not personally played on the 430 model, so I can only judge about the difference based on the specs, and the main differences will be: linear graded action, ( heavier keys on the bottom and lighter on the top) , wooden components of the white keys ( feel and touch will be more solid and less plasticky), the sound bank!! ( much bigger bank and the CFX and Bösendorfer, along with period pianos) that the clp 745 will give you, that 430 doesn't have. ( also the 745 looks more elegant with less buttons, if it is at all important to you).So you can decide how important these details are to you. To me this makes a world of difference between them:) best of luck with your decision!

the P515 and CLP745 both have Bosendorfer Imperial... but if it wasn't that great on the P515, was it due to the speakers on P515 not as good? In that case a good headphone should be able to tell... so if in fact it is not due to the speakers, maybe they didn't do a good job at getting a good Bosendorfer sample on the P515...

I think it is indeed the sample issue. The samples were updated with clp 745 and it is much better IMO.

@@Dariafortepiano I looked at the Soft Imperial, CFX, Bosendorfer, Steinway voices from Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL), and they seem to sample it from so many places: at the piano, in the room, in the seated area of the concert hall... so for example, what if P515 uses the Bosendorfer sound "in the room" or at the front row of the concert hall? Then to the pianist, the sound would sound like "how come it is so far away?"

Is it still a good idea to buy a CLP 745 these days? From what I understand that model is 3 years old and Kawai just came out with the CA501. Have you had a chance to try it out?
@Dariafortepiano
@Dariafortepiano Жыл бұрын
I have not tried the Kawai model you mentioned, but I myself do not like the CLP 745 so much for what it's worth, compared to P515 for example. I think it's a bit overpriced and the action is a bit light to my taste. So if you like the new Kawai model, go for it. I just like the Yamaha sound better, that's why I go for the Yamaha.

How do you feel about the speakers on this compared to p 515 in terms of balance and clarity?
@Dariafortepiano
@Dariafortepiano 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, I knew I forgot to cover something....the speakers.. I like them! They are under the piano, but it does not make them quiet or muffled. They are very good I think. I like them probably the same as the p515, hard to remember exactly at this point, I also have the piano in a different space, so really difficult to compare with our having them side by side. Maybe I like the 745 speakers slightly better, no distortion, very clear sound. But I did not have problems with p515 either. Sorry, I am not sure it helps answer your question.

Does the virtual resonance modeling make a difference?
@lumpichu
@lumpichu Жыл бұрын
Of course it does, I think it's the engine behind those adjustments of the various resonances and customizations. What I'm more intrigued about what Grand Expression Modeling does (if it really does something), because thats one of key differences in specs from the earlier models (also from the P515).
@lumpichu
@lumpichu 11 ай бұрын
It's only me to find the CFX/Bosendorfer sounding somehow... lifeless on the CLP7x5 series? I'd probably go for a Kawai or a Roland instead today if the P515 wouldn't be good enough.

@Dariafortepiano
@Dariafortepiano 2 жыл бұрын
I have a brief comparison in the last part of the review. But in short, for what it is worth I believe the p515 to be better value for money. Yet, the updated sound banks of the clp 745 are much better, especially the Bösendorfer! So there are many details which differ and depending on what your needs are one or the other can be better. If I had to choose now between them after having them both, I would choose p515 because of the price difference

@Dariafortepiano

Hi Stephen, thank you for the question. If we are considering value for money then I definitely like p515 more! If in terms of features, then 745 is a more advanced model, with updated sounds banks amd other features. Overall the sad part is that I preferred the action of the p515, but the sound banks of the clp 745. And since sound for me is more important, I am co tent with clp 745 for the moment. Although I do think it's a bit overpriced. I would prefer a heavier action with the good soundbanks, this is why I say I would be happier with clp 775 or 785, based on specs. But have not tried either in person. Hope this helps🙂

You are a great player and presenter..))). Thank you! The Chopin waltz though is still a waltz, I think, and too slow here...? And I had the rare chance to play on historical pianos last week at the university of music HSLU in Lucerne, Switzerland. It is a totally different world and sound. The keys of the instruments are much easier to play fast and have a sound not decaying so quickly. The Yamaha cannot mimic this here at all, sorry...)))

Hi Roland, thank you so much for your kind comment! haha, yes, the waltz would be faster in the performance, it is just that I wanted to show the nuances that you can get with the sound in this piano, so wanted to take it slow and even slower for the Mozart minuet😅 I envy you for having a chance to try these period instruments!
