Find lower level and more simple music sheet (level 1 or 2) online and you'll play great hits as well!

I upgraded in December from my trusty S970, no trade in; had a truley excellent price match from Tony. I've been a loyal customer for over 25 years. I'm really enjoying this instrument, my 1st & probably final flagship arranger keyboard - much exploration to do, good for my brain. I'm 72 years old. I have a quality 88 key midi controller should I need to go for extra notes. Happy, happy, happy!

So dissapointed in Genos 2 I was so looking foward to it , Owning Genos 1 I think the design was plain lazy full stop why not something premium like aliminium/wood combination and not plastic , and what about style creator? is it still the same? As for sound I`m hearing no improvments apart from the fm engine

Loved the Top Gun theme, brilliant. Was a bit cold on the new Genos 2 launch from Yamaha's stream but it's growing on me. I can hear they've improved the sound quality another level (not that it wasn't already good in Genos 1). Just would like to see how they may have improved the midi sequence song recording function. I've always found this frustrating (unless i'm using it wrong - don't get me wrong i'm not expecting Logic Pro or Ableton on the in-built screen, just something better than click 'record' and hope you get it all right in one take🤣)

Genos remains a nice product, but I expected more innovation for a next generation flagship. When you look at how quickly synthesizers innovate at a much lower price. Perhaps this is a bad example, but much in Genos 2 has remained the same. The innovations are nice, but you would expect them in a mid-range workstation such as the PSX-S900. I also have difficulty calling the Yamaha Arranger keyboards Workstations when you compare them with the competitors. Anyway, define workstation. Why is the Unison and Accent functionality not included that is present in the PSR-SX600, for example, and even better. More options to edit your voices, create your own arpeggios, even more voices, 61 and 88 key versions, just to name a few

I'm looking at the upper right portion of this KB. It's blank black plastic. I think it would be great place for a matrix of buttons --- like more pads + more. Great playing Tony!

I think this keyboard could be even better if there were the following features: -Hammond organ voices with REAL samples of the instrument and editable sound, -new electric guitar sounds with more articulations and velocity layers, -EDITABLE DX7 VOICES (why aren't they editable in Genos 2??!!) -new violin voices (the "JazzViolin" and "CelticViolin" voices exist since Tyros 4 and are not the best), -better percussion sounds (I think the celesta, dulcimer and kalimba voices are the same as the Tyros 1 ones, which was released in 2002), -better orchestral harp voice, -an arpeggio creator, -better recording features, -EDITABLE SYNTH SOUNDS, -61, 76 or 88 weighted keys, -a better body (the plastic body is very bad), -new choir voices and singing samples (like the ones we could find on some plugins for DAWs), -a bass clarinet voice

I remember last year I watched a video of you playing the Top Gun theme on either a Yamaha PSR-SX700 or SX900 which I also thought sounded amazing for a Yamaha PSR keyboard. But in this one the DX7 bell sounds add a nice touch, there is no way I could afford a Genos 2 though but I do have DX7 sounds as part of Halion 7 and I also have the free Dexed VST. If I had gone through with buying a Tyros 5 a PSR-SX700 or SX900 I wouldn't have regretted my decision, maybe I might reconsider it in the future as I'm sure keyboards like Tyros 4, Tyros 5 and the original Genos will become cheaper.

@@amusic9825 If I do ever decided to buy a new keyboard it won't be at least until 2025 and I'm not even 100% sure weather or not an arranger keyboard is the right sort of tool for me since I actually do all my song covers by either sequencing everything or just take a midi file and just play the melody ( I wish I could play song covers with auto accompaniments the way most people use an arranger keyboard ). However if I find that an arranger keyboard might push me to get a whole track nailed in one sitting maybe I should get one since often it's easier to record your tracks as audio tracks, another good thing about the Yamaha PSR-SX keyboards is the ability to load midi files simply by connecting a USB flash drive as the drivers for my Yamaha PSR-295 won't work on Windows 10. If I still want an arranger it also depends on how much I can afford to spend on one and if I can only afford one that's under a grand then my options might probably be either a Tyros, Tyros 2, Tyros 3 or PSR-SX600.

I've used the Yamaha Tyross for years and being totally blind I've found it perfect for the layout and accessing different instruments. When I heard the 1st Genoss had a touch screen I was disappointed because I thought I wouldn't be able to access many of its features. even though there may be a touch screen on this keyboard, can it be accessed and used by just the buttons?

I've never tried doing this with a keyboard... but a lot of the amateur radio equipment and much of the MIDI equipment can be remotely controlled. Not just notes and parameters, but switching voices, backings and other features. I've had a lot of success using raspberry PI's to break these harder to use functions out to keyboards, midi controllers and other controls. Also to provide audible read-back for screen menus and other functions... for a blind relative. I don't know if you have a hackspace or a makers group near you - but those hobbyists are always looking for cool projects and, if it's possible, would definitely be able to work with you to come up with some alternative control methods and talkback features. I saw one project at a maker space near me, where a device had lots of onscreen menus and no way of automating or controlling them. The selection dial had no stops, so it was impossible to know where you were. It was a nightmare. So, they hooked up a $40 raspberry PI and a cheap camera, and had it set up to read the display changes aloud, to make it usable. If you were not too far from me we could meet up and explore the problem and see what solutions worked best for you, but - like I say - there are makers spaces, hackspaces and other assorted groups of electronic tinkerers around, who just love building these kinds of little projects. Usually there's a way forward with most items, and it's usually much cheaper than one would expect. You might want to get in touch with some hobbyists and see what ideas they can come up with.

Having used Yamaha products since the late 70's electones and subsequent keyboards, it's always been the case that an upgrade is just that normal. From time to time, there's a leap..ie Tyros, then, 1,2,3,4,5 and then a leap to the Genos...and I'm sure Genos 3 is sitting on a designers work top somewhere. If you've ever brought a car, mobile phone, or some other gizmo, there's always going to be a 'next version'. My view...if you've got the money get one, if you haven't stick with Genos, if you are poorer still, stick with the SX900 which I own. A great budget instrument and there'll be an upgrade soon the software for that soon I'm sure. As one of the old school, would have loved to have 'organ world' easily available!! Great demo Tony!

Putting the fm sound chip aside why can't the Genos 1 reproduce all these sounds and include these new features afterall its supposed to be updateable by the software? 🤔

Firmware updates but Genos 2 is the second generation Genos. Same thing with Tyros keyboards, Tyros was first generation and updates were for firmware updates not to updade your Tyros to a Tyros 2. Also Genos 2 uses a hardware FM synth chip of which Genos dosn't have. Genos 2 has been 2 or 3 years overdue, Yamaha brought out a new Tyros every 3 or 4 years, Genos has been th current flagship arranger for 6 years which is a very long time. Also the good thing about Genos 2 is that it means all the other discontinued flagship arrangers like Genos and Tyros 5 should come down in price over the next couple of years.

i can't understand why a long-time giant like Yamaha doesn't produce 88 weighted key versions of such flagship models. Korg does it, Roland does it. A lot of buyers (myself included) definitely prefer 88 key versions.

Because arranger keybaords are more like an organ than a piano. Also people take them places to perform so they have to be fairly lightweight for that reason. I believe the flagship Yamaha Clavinova is fairly close to Genos in terms of sound quality.

This is all great ! But... But I play rock'n'roll 50's ; 60's twist + disco 70's and 80's. Will the Génos 2 be better for these styles than a Tyros 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 ? I have the Génos 1 (version 2) and in these styles it does nothing more than my old Tyros 4. My Génos has a better battery than the Ketron; better bass, better pianos ... But if I play twist style, the Ketron does much better !

A modest upgrade, now release firmware for the Genos 1 implementing the fader catch function (and dynamic style) and your genos 1 trade-ins will depreciate like... Zero. That FM chip is also in the Genos 1 hardware colecting dust, right?

No, your better off with either a PSR-E3 or E4 series keyboard if your starting out or the PSR-EW series of those models which are the 76 key versions. But if your a bit strapped for cash then the PSR-E2 series keyboards are not bad as a starter keyboard ( although they don't have touch response ). Or you can still find decent entry level keyboards second hand quite cheap like an older PSR- E3 or E4 series keyboards. Casio also have a great range of starter keyboards.

This uses Convolution Reverb which is used in Steinberg's software like Halion and Cubase Pro, new sounds include acoustic pianos where all 88 notes are a sample of each key and many other new samples. New drums and also an FM synthesizer to emulate all the most popular Yamaha DX7 sounds that were used in the 80s.

Last board was a Tyros 3 and I was waiting for this but NO! I may wait for the second old genos to drop price. I used to be a Yamaha teacher and know them fairly well, this is just a small upgrade and just NOT worth the $7000 the fee they will charge here in US. No keyboard is worth that. So greedy. People buy with their eyes as well as ears and a few more flashing lights and silver paint job may have fooled more people into thinking it was a better animal but hmmm just not worth all that money!

I think you somewhat rescued the Genos 2 with a very different approach compared with the Yamaha rep video a while back who seemed to present it more as a cheesy ballroom instrument stuck in the 1960s. But the still excellent SX series makes the Genos 2 eye watering price utterly ridiculous at £5000. For five grand the Genos 2 needs to be almost revolutionary and it is not even approaching that. The price WILL come down because only the stupidly rich would ever buy this at the crazy launch price. My sub £1000 MODX6 used with a DAW can match the Genos 2 and exceed it. Different kinds of machines of course but still, £5000 is way overpriced.

You don't have to upgrade to the latest flagship arranger, personally if I bought a Tyros or Tyros 2 back in the day I would have absolutely no intention of upgrading. I would sooner have a Tyros 5 over Genos or Genos 2.

I’m guessing this is aimed at stage performers and not those of us who have home studios. This feels like a basic keyboard with convincing sounds and realistic presets. Watch, tho: the “hip hop” style is still going to be offensively hilariously corny! Just “BOOTS n CATS n BOOTS n CATS n…”

Both tyros and genos use the same very poor sound quality speaker system. To experience these arrangers at their best you need a decent pair of monitors which just adds cost to the already ludicrous asking prices ! Genos 2 is just a rehash of genos. I am somebody that has owned a wide range of arranger keyboards over the years. The prices go up but what you get for your money has become less of a step forward more of a side step.
