Yamaha Jog CV50 with variator modification

A quick hoon down Middleton road to test out a secondhand GoPro hero 4 black at full HD. The scooter is a modified Yamaha Jog CV50, but it is still 50cc. A simple washer in the variator, when placed inbetween the variator and the starter gear, can boost your scooters top speed by up to 10kph faster. However, you do lose the low end pull with this variator mod. So, I have equipped mine with tougher clutch springs for a slightly faster take off.

What do you mean by losing the low end pull and could you do a video on removing the washer? will it affect longevity or warranty / insurance?

The washer, when moved from inside the variator pulley to behind the pulley, changes the gearing ratio just slightly. It makes the gearing taller which means it can reach a higher top speed, but takes longer to get up and running. It's the same as changing a sprocket on a chain-driven motorcycle to make the gearing taller or shorter. What I did to keep mine from launching too slowly was replacing the OEM clutch springs and rollers with minarelli performance springs and rollers. This modification might wear out your automatic clutch a bit faster than the OEM setup, but after running my scooter with this setup for 10,000km, I saw almost no extra wear on the clutch. I'm not sure about whether this would void your warranty or whether insurance would care. I may upload a tutorial video in the future, but that is to be decided as it would be on someone else's Yamaha Jog: I've now sold this one.

It's a 2007 model. The CDI is stock, but I will soon be making a video showing the exact process to complete this speed modification.

Top speed was 50kmh previously, after mods 70kmh

You write top speed was 50 and now after the mod is 70. But If you play with the idle/mix screws, you can have the same effect without the mod. My 90's jog has no mod, but I can speed up to 70 with the recent setting. There may be a difference though in how easy it goes up to 70, that is possible.

I’m slightly lost as to how changing the air/fuel mixtures would at all increase the engines max rpm limit or the gear ratio?

Mine is stock with an exhaust and it’s average af until 50km then shoots to 65 (rev limiter) like a mofo, if I stay in the power band it climbs hills faster than some cars, anyone know why? Shitty low end power, no tranny mods just exhaust and richened the air fuel mix

Nah never had an issue with the bar end mirrors, they’re just some cheap ones I got off ebay for like $20 shipped. You have to cut holes in the ends of the bar grips but they work a treat

Oh yeah, I can tell you right now actually. In most scooters there is a itty bitty washer in the middle of the variator, not the clutch in the back, but the variator. If you remove this washer it removes the variator restriction letting the engine go around faster. This mod goes well with lighter rollers, tougher clutch springs and powerfilter.

Put key in ignition barrel and turn left. That will unlock underseat storage.

The original variator with one of the small washers moved from inside to behind the variator assembly. It lengthens gearing so your scooter goes much faster

I made a little bracket out of a sheet of aluminum to hold up the number plate, then I put my rego label behind the number plate which is what I wedge my L plate into

No variator upgrade, just a fresh drive belt, and I relocated the front variator pulley slightly tighter to lengthen the final drive ratio. I think at this point I had gone for different rollers and clutch springs but this was so long ago I can’t remember exactly. Came up with concept myself
